Why’s wormwood so popular?

Recommended Posts

As a wormwood fan myself I’ve noticed that I am far from the only wormwood enjoyer

Hes very popular at least on the forums and I’m not entirely sure why, especially considering he’s a dlc character and you’d think his big hp downside would push ppl away from playing him

i like him because farming is fun and he’s a little goober and I like his pumpkin skin but I know other ppl like him for different reasons so I’m curious what are your guys reasons for liking wormwood

why do you guys like wormwood? You can also talk about what you don’t like about wormwood if you want I’m fine with any wormwood centric discussion in this thread

*insert i have two sides meme* i can't make one on my phone ;(

Wormwood is a good character, he can be comfy and not a burden in pubs to play.

Base dwellas: Helps local warly, they are best pals, lotsa good food to go around, Living log printer + lureplant maykr.

Gigaplant: Destroys AF while rubbing **** on face day 1.

He is a well-balanced character. His perk of not healing through food is unique to him and it affects him throughout the entire game, as opposed to Wickerbottom's non-existant downside that actually turns into an upside once you activate lunar rifts.

His positive perks are also fun to mess around with and see what and how you can do with them, as opposed to Wendy's "use Abigail" or Wolfgang's "deal extra damage"

Wormwood is one of the strongest characters, without being overpowered or undeserving of said power. He has a fun and engaging downside that makes you play the game differently, and is just as much fun as his upsides. He has incredible spritework, a ton of gorgeous skins, a very unique instrument, and great quotes ranging from funny to cute. Wormwood is what all characters should strive to be like.

what specifically aside from using moon shrooms instead of flutes and using seeds for sanity

Just off the top of my head there's bramble husk armor, bramble traps, a large encouragement to use atypical things like bat bats, being able to base your loadout on his innate speed boost (forgoing speed elsewhere or stacking it together for even more).

Wormwood has insane utility, with direct and indirect boosts to combat.

He has the most synergies of any character:

  • Can grow crops for warly, warly can heal him with grim dish.
  • Bramble husk is handy for wortox to farm souls, wortox can heal him.
  • Bramble husk is a great body armour for walter to wear with pinecone hat, walter can give ww portable tent for healing.
  • Living logs are useful for wicker or any character tbh.
  • Maxwell can farm glands for wormwood using shadow sneak. Ww livings logs for shadow gear.
  • Crops for wurt. Wurt can give merm army to ww.
  • Wilson can make nitre for compost wraps etc etc..

Wormwood is such a diverse character.... who completely replaces the usefulness of Wendy :wilsoalmostangelic:

Somehow, I get the feeling that most people who enjoy wormwood in DST, would absolutely hate him when they tried to play him in single player Dont Starve, That’s just how much Klei has changed him between the two games..

And that’s not necessarily a BAD thing.. I don’t guess, but it does turn him into a drastically different character.

What was once a moderately hard challenge mode character, has now become a perk blender of the forums (somewhat) wildest fantasies they could’ve wanted him to have. Which is why I assume people like him so much- They were able to alter his playstyle & identity so much into what they actually wanted him to be.

Deep down I wish Klei would give this treatment to Wes & Wilson and stop treating them as Jokes.. but I know that’s never going to happen because they aren’t a priority like DLC characters would be.

The TL:DR- Wormwood pretty much could’ve been a whole other brand new character between all his changes in DS & DST.

The truth can sometimes be a bit harsh, don’t ask the question if you dislike honest opinions. <3

Cause he's one of the few characters that has had his skill tree added and easily stands out from the rest (a plant).

As for dlc, PC players get him for free from buying Hamlet so he's a lot more accessible than other dlc characters.

As much as I'd like to attribute a great many other things these tend to be more true from a market perspective. I noticed the large influx of wormwood characters after he got his skill tree. As for the healing thing, me and a lot of other wormwood players have worked hard to debunk that myth. He has the biggest downside in the game but there are plenty of workarounds.

Nope, loved him a lot in solo and love him a lot in DST. (what made me change games was seeing him get ported to DST), the only thing that I would "miss" would be his bloom on demand, but in Hamlet he has way more than that. In Hamlet I think that he is stronger.

Definitely not. As someone who primarily uses healing salves i notice zero difference in playstyle in wormwood over other characters. Food for healing is massively overrated. Wormwood is one of the best characters for mass farming spiders with his husk/trap so obtaining healing salves on mass is extremely easy for him. And in the end game you can spam jellybeans like anyone else.

Warly has by far the biggest downside that lasts the entire game. You have to go out of your way to spam more of the same crockpot food which is wasteful or think about creating separate dishes which requires thought. Any downside that requires even abit of thought is the biggest downside.

Wormwood has access to the most reliable ways of healing throughout all stages of the game. Grass roll/Tents/siesta/healing salves in early game, honey poultice mid game and jellybeans in the late game. All these methods dont rot and are a better way to heal for regular characters anyway.

You seem to have a lot of ideas on how wormwood can heal. Something that maybe requires thought given all the options...

As for Warly's downside, you can choose to make it difficult but... All you need is some meaty stew to wait out the timer.

On top of that, all those healing side grades are available to everyone else too, including Warly (except the wrap of course).

sleeping is a waste of time and the best way to heal is to just let your beefalo tank it anyway, then it'll slowly regen on it's own in between fights and feed it blue shrooms during fights, grass bed roll literally doesn't restore health, warly can still just spam meaty stews and have beefalo tank stuff since you can use jelly and chili buff on beefalos too
