It's always been worth it. It's just there was one particular YouTuber who said it sucked for no reason, and people love blindly copying YouTubers. In DSA it could be argued to be true (which he wasn't talking about, he was a DST YouTuber), but in DST WX sucked before his rework. SYSTEM OVERLOAD was basically his only perk (stats are irrelevant), and SYSTEM OVERLOAD was essentially a net negative.

It's practically impossible to acquire on your own (the only consistent method is 2,000% not worth it), so it requires multiplayer. But even in multiplayer and even if you want to dedicate someone else to being Wickerbottom, all the time it takes to gather the ingredients, meet up together, go somewhere that you can actually use it (doesn't work near lightning rods or flammable things you care about), and read the book over and over again just to do all of that again in not too much time since it rather short is way bigger than the time you save by running fast. It's fun to run fast, but not practical.

don't forget getting stats from gears because you're supposed to kill every clockwork in the ruins even if they aren't preventing you from getting anything valuable and won't be worth the resources and time spent on killing them

that got replaced a lot of time ago by "wanda wolfgang broken op", with the addition of wigfrid/wortox/wendy/wurt/wickerbottom sometimes

The only time i ever noticed wickers sleep downside is when i discovered that you get stunlocked... forever if you get caught by CCs 3rd phase ghost attack making it a guaranteed death

Wormwood is popular because he have the best skins. Seriously, which character have as many head skin alteration in a single skin as much as him? (Wolfgang and Wanda maybe, but his head just enlarges and Wanda aging are mostly the same across her skin)
