Eye of Terror/Twins of Terror is detrimental to numbers of the concurrent playerbase.

Recommended Posts

Eye of terror is an early game boss. For the most part with a little application, any player can defeat it.

Twins of course is a little more intensive, however, one is able to spawn twins as early as autumn day 1.

The way the boss spawns and latches onto targets not ready is actually one of the worst things to happen to new players.

I won't go long winded, but new players will generally die due to understandable negligence and will develop diligence at their pace.
In short, any death is entirely a player's fault.... save for the Terror cluster of bosses.

I hate terraria and it's given me another reason to hate it. It's arguably the worst feature in this game how the terror cluster targets anyone.

The fact that initiating the boss fight demands player coordination can be an argument for it, but it's designed in such a way that it's a VERY fair fight to do alone.
Klei, I will quit the game if this is changed to have unfair BS like dragonfly as a raid boss.

I digress, this boss is fair to do alone and some even have more difficulty against it than bee queen or dragonfly, two bosses of which are expressly not a reasonable fight to do alone.

Yes. One may be able to do each latter boss alone, myself being one of the people who has soloed each boss, but I will concede that each raid boss is not a reasonable undertaking to do alone and the nature of the fight demands player coordination.

Terror cluster has complete conflict towards the design philosophy of the surface raid duo.

Terror cluster is liable to single out ONE player and kill them at any location and the fight demands that ideally, all players should be in one area before summoning.

Even the simple Eye of Terror can kill a player unprepared by no fault of their own.

I love playing with other players. Be they stranger or familiar. It's simply more fun, but I also believe that doing difficult tasks makes it a lot more enjoyable to players who aren't boss killers.

But others will likely refuse to play just because I challenge the terror cluster, and I'm not sure how much experience Klei devs have with playing among strangers, but no one is able to lead without merit.
If I am a perfect stranger to another player, they will not follow my lead unless I do something FOR them.

"Hey, meet me at pig king at dawn. I'm going to challenge the Eye of Terror and for your protection, you should run when the fight begins to avoid it spawning on you tonight"

Under no circumstance will a player follow my lead. Even when given a good amount of time, this simply isn't happening.

Players have different priorities.

I'm perhaps not articulating it as much as I could be as this is a haphazard post in anger.

But I do believe it's a bad boss. Not in the fight itself, but it's interaction with unprepared players.

I won't make a suggestion to have it changed because there are facets of the game I'm more passionate about, but bottom line, I really enjoy playing with others and while this mechanic stands, I think it's alienating new players, and thus, preventing new players from being veterans.

Bad boss. Thumbs down.

have it spawn at the terrarium by default instead of being completely rng based on the number of players pls

even in a coordinated world there's usually one or two stragglers that cant/wont come to base in time for the fight and end up wasting everyone's time

Honestly, I wouldn't mind random eye of terror spawns if it wasnt for the fact that we "players" activate the summon, which by logic should bring the eye/twins to the one who summons.

Reasons why I hate this dumb mechanic, and confused why it's not reworked yet:

1. I gear up for a fight and the twins just don't show up.

2. Random player gets killed by a raid boss out of nowhere in the middle of nowhere.

3. My twins timer is running out because every night they keep not showing up to my location.

4. I get kicked out of server for touching terrarium.

5. I almost kill eye of terror, and the next night someone else finishes him off for a free hat.

6. "Hey guys, i want to fight a boss. Everybody, stop whatever you're doing and come to my location".

7. The twins of terror turn their gase to... a dead player. Seriously?

8. Grifering. Well actually, it's pretty funny to unleash stage 2 twins on random people who aren't bothering anyone just trying to have fun and survive. Thanks klei, I really needed this ever since the spawn protection was added.

9. That's not even how summoning bosses in terraria works! They don't target random players minding their own business on the other side of the world because you crafted a boss summon.

Get the terraruim spawns on the player who activated it mod.

On klei pubs yeah it sucks especially when I'm on a boat and it decides I'm more important to kill them the 9 people at base with full armor and weapons.

When I do play with the mod people just wander near me and get themselves killed then blame me because I don't revive them for interrupting my activity.

Another thing i hate which is nothing to with the boss itself or the mechanic discussed is that everyone spawns it in base all the time- greifer or not. It is capable of destroying structures with the very existant slam attack, can kill glommer, and is a general pain if you are don't care to join in or are surprise attacked.

PSA:

Stop doing that people:-(

Bro, this is a mod. No mod "should" be. Anyway, I hope this changes in the game, indeed.

Temporarly solution they suggested.

I like it just the way it is. For Klei Servers at least it should be kept for the funny summoning. :D

I would say cancel the summoning for dead players it just doesn't make sense.

Klei said that they like the chaos of dont starve, when people are dying and laughing at their failure that is hearthwarming to them

This magic has faded over the years and they keep trying to bring that chaotic and fun nature of the dont starve formula with stuff like random eye of terror spawn, but its like they forgot about the "fun" part

I mean tbf the chaotic nature isn't really there either considering how domesticated the constant has become what with being able to control world wide events like seasons, Full moons, and hostile flares for example. The eye can be chaotic but it's player induced chaos.

Doing this without warning is griefing. It's not justifiable.

Using the terrarium without warning is 100% justified. Nobody ever goes into the caves or does anything to prepare, so all you do by announcing you're doing it is open yourself up to getting votekicked.

I do it without warning and I agree it's griefing, even if I don't mean it.

Griefing doesn't need to be on purpose.

why dont people just run away from it if they aren't the desired target?

i wish people were smart enough to do that

anyways, even if the target does survive, there's still the issue of everyone who was ready to fight the eye/twins having now wasted their time rushing to base and preparing to fight, and now they have to wait 8 minutes to see if rng grants them the ability to actually engage in the fight

Dude.. the game literally makes an announcement that the boss is targeting you, then they spawn in.

The sad reality is that players of DST are DUMB, and I don’t mean that in a mean or offensive way, I just mean that people who played single player Don’t Starve before jumping into DST have a lot of experience under their belt, they have learned (through many trials & errors) how to survive “the king of winter” they’ve been guided by cool world set pieces to discover the games items and their functions (such as spawning into a world with a burning campfire, winter hat and some burned trees with dropped charcoals to introduce the player to winter)

With DST players are just… Dumb, like a lot of times you’ll watch people just stand around in base, not doing anything just huddling near a fire trying not to go insane because they don’t even know how to build a sleeping bag to restore a small bit of sanity.

And this “Dumbness” or I guess you can say “Inexperience” causes people to simply expect DST to be casual as all hell..

When the ironic truth is the Eye of Terror & In Extension Twins of Terror, are the most Casual boss fights in the game.

No not the actual fight- their mechanics…

These things literally spawn in and then just stand there not moving & only draw aggro when you approach close enough to trigger it.

(Yes sounds familiar with all the casual DFly deaths..)

First of all, the Op is wrong, You can not spawn the twins in on Autumn Day 1, because you need to first spawn EoT.. Kill It & then socket Nightmare Fuel into the now “Empty” Terrarium.

Second: EoT & ToT can only be summoned at the “blue” part of the day cycle, and they despawn when daylight comes, meaning they need to be killed during the night cycle.

Remember what I said about DST players being “Dumb”? There are several ways to get rid of EoT/TOT without fighting it.

1- Run away from the area they spawned in & disengage the fight.

2- Go in a cave and come out of another cave entrance.

3- Hide in a bush hat before they drop out the sky & wait till Daylight.

4- or even just Run around till Daylight arrives so they Despawn.

That said.. Players CAN Grief using the ToT by first fighting them till they morph to phase 2, then ignoring them so they despawn.. and then summoning them again in a hilarious and deadly game of spin the bottle on everyone playing the next night!

Its harder (but still doable) to do the 4 above steps if the twins are already in phase 2.

you can fuel the terrarium at any time unless its empty mike

OP is right. OP is ALWAYS right.

It's unlikely you will spawn twins day 1, but if you manage to sink your sanity down to nightmares spawning, you can kill a nightmare creature with the humble axe and fuel the terrarium if you find it.

I'm 99% sure Maxwell spawns in with nightmare fuel, but I don't play Maxwell, so who knows. It's forever going to be a mystery and no one will ever uncover the truth.
