What biomes would you like to see?

Recommended Posts

I would rather they enhance some of the existing biomes.

For me a big one would be removing ponds outright and replacing them with freshwater tiles. This would let us have freshwater fish swimming around in these tiles, and make the biomes they are contained in feel more alive, with the potential of frogs swimming around inside the water, perhaps have merms go for a swim as well. Could have reeds growing on top of water tiles, as well as allowing players to place dock kits on the tiles if they want to remove the pond. Could even have some sort of pond algae growing in the water, perhaps something the merms and fish snack on, and a potential source of veggie filler for players.

The caves swamp could also use some unique features, right now it's just the surface swamp minus the merms and mosquitoes. Perhaps add a slimy caves swamp spider, and a new type of Merm called the glowmerm (pun on glow worm) that looks similar to Wurt's abyssal skin. The freshwater tiles could contain a new fish type that emits light while held, with a design similar to some deep-sea fish, with the glowmerms dropping these fish when killed. Perhaps fill the biome with glowberry plants, but keep the large number of tentacles and spiders and whatnot so harvesting the berries is a significant risk.

Icecaps (essentially a frozen island) where ice is available year-round.

Lava caves. Some assets meant for these were re-used as other things. I forgot exactly what they were, I think nightmare fissures and basalt maybe.

Maybe a little underwater "ocean". The water is leaking in from the roof (as seen in the grotto) so a little area where you can sail around could be a fun place for a base. I might be the only one who likes it though. I'm also not sure how possible it would be in a technical aspect.

A new biome or structure in the middle of the ocean with the intention of changing characters during full moons for the price of iridescent gem. This would be a bit expensive and would avoid abusing the rampant character switching

I'd like to see new Constant variations, from bigger deadlands to more tropical monkey infested islands, maybe surface would be in the sky and caves would have oceans. Anything really. Creativity is endless with all those assets they've been making for the past 10 years.

Iri gem for a single swap is a bit excessive I think. If the portal were to be nerfed something like 1 purple gem + 5 moonrocks with a 20 or 30 day cooldown (per person) before being able to do it again would be better.

A new oxygen meter system(not included on startup) so the player could dive into an underwater abyss type biome. Needing to use certain gear to improve oxygen, going underneath the lunar island(or the grotto, I don't care) to find a lunar equivalent to the ruins. Cool treasures inside, including some magic items that give you oxygen bubbles for easier exploration and other stuff. New enemies and lore, the whole shebang.

Although I know that would be asking for way too much content. I've been interested on whether or not Klei has some lore hidden deep in the ocean.

I want snow island where you can find undead versions of the current mobs plus some tuskmen... I'd call it... Northrend...

I am afraid that Oxygen is not included at the moment.

Dreg Heap biome for the caves. Basically the mother of all garbage dumps and final resting place for anything forgotten by the sea. Whale falls, garbage, scap metal, previously cut content. You name it. It's ended up down there.

Be careful whenever an earthquake happens. Nobody wants to the the one crushed by a not-so-Floaty Boat knight. But hey, maybe you'll find those supplies that you lost from your last shipwreck.

I really think the cooldown idea would work too! As for having this structure in the middle of the sea, I just thought about filling it more, since the ocean is still a little empty. I hope that Klei still has the desire, even after 10 years, to keep updating and keep thinking (just like we are doing here) / expanding the world.

lava biome in the caves

To extend to this, it would be cool if there was a special cave enterance guarded by dragonfly which would lead you straight into lava caves. They could add new turf to dragonfly's arena to match the lava biome turf. It would need a stronger tool like the pick/axe, but maybe dragonfly's enraged stomp attack could be able to open it too? No bats would spawn from it.

Imagine all of the horrifying sea creatures you could put in that area.

Full moon and an iridescent gem? You're tripping dog. That is insanely expensive and prohibitive. They may as well just disable character swapping rather than doing this.

Celestial portal is fine.. if you don't like it don't use it.

This argument is an epitome of how vague something can be. Imagine if we just didn't use things we didn't like in the game and asked for improvements lul
but yes, it would probably be very expensive

What you described is nearly word for word the mod Creeps in the Deeps, adds a new cave system which is underwater and has an oxigen meter. It adds plenty of unused sea content and shipwrecked stuff, and it tries to add a sort of merm Atlantis, but its pretty bare bones, and locked behind an amped up version of the Quacken

This reminds me of the Creeps in the Deeps mod that's kinda jank but still incredibly cool. I would really love to explore the depths!

Nah it really isn't... at all.

You aren't suggesting an improvement you're suggesting something that would drastically change how many players play the game and would potentially ruin a lot of fun and invalidate different playstyles than your own. For everyone that likes, enjoys and uses the portal to character swap this would be a massive downgrade and issue with the game. It would be a HUGE change. For those who don't like to character swap they can simply not. Simple as that.

I will never not defend the celestial portal. The game is a SANDBOX/survival game. Asking for character swapping or the portal to be disabled or extremely restrictive goes against the sandbox nature of the game and is clearly not what Klei want to do given how long it has existed in it's current form.

For the record I'm not against idols/character swapping being slightly more expensive. I am very against it being removed or being extremely restrictive though, clearly.

Yeah, I never liked this mechanic and I hope that changes, at least I have the right to hope for it. I don't like the idea of playing with 18 characters at the same time and, especially, abusing it. It goes far beyond simply “not using”.

Genius. The old strategy game Age of Empires 2 had a similar mechanic: a type of terrain that both naval and land units could traverse. DST could get something similar; a shallow terrain for both walking and sailing albeit at a slower pace.

Up and Away looks odd, but Creeps in the Deeps really seems like something Klei would add to the game.
