Wendy Skill Tree Concept

Recommended Posts

Everyone and their mother is making skill tree idea posts, and it looks really fun... So I'm gonna do one. Let me know what you think.

Wendy's three core skill branches outside of Affinity will be Paranormal, Ectoherbology, and Remembrance.

Paranormal Skills

Wendy's innate connection to the spirit world make for some disturbing interactions.

Gravekeeping Branch - Makes the Graveyard feel more like home

  • Exhumation I - Improves the grave loot pool and Wendy will no longer lose sanity from gravedigging.
  • Exhumation II - Wendy gains the ability to revive by haunting undisturbed graves. This also excavates graves.
    • Prerequisite: Exhumation I
    • Author's Note: I just want to see a creepy animation of Wendy bursting out of a grave like a horror film
  • Funeral Bouquet - Craft a unique arrangement of dark flowers and lune blossoms that can be placed on an empty grave. The grave will be refreshed the following new moon.
    • Materials: Dark Petals x3, Lune Blossoms x3, Papyrus
    • Prerequisite: Exhumation II

Occult Branch - Allows Wendy to craft supernatural objects fueled by Morning Glories

  • Elegy - Craft Elegies that can be used to dispel all nearby ghosts, including Pipspooks who will drop a Mourning Glory. When used near ghost players, they are inspired with a 60% speed boost.
    • Materials: Papyrus x5, Feather Pencil, Mourning Glory (yields 5 products)
    • Usage Cost: 1 Mourning Glory
  • Spirit Board - Craft a Spirit Board which can commune with spirits to attain information. The Spirit Board can be asked questions to reveal the location of specific objects in the world, but may backfire and summon an angry ghost.
    • Materials: Boards, Feather Pencil, Pure Horror
    • Usage Cost: 3 Mourning Glories
  • Poppet - Craft Poppets, handheld effigies that can be used to protect allies. Once attuned to a chosen player, a Poppet will allow them to evade death once, restoring 25% of their maximum health and destroying the Poppet in the process.
    • Materials: Sticks x2, Grass x3, Beard Hair
    • Usage Cost: 5 Mourning Glories

Ectoherbology Skills

These skills improve the efficiency of creating and using Ghostly Elixirs.

Empathy Branch - Strengthens Wendy's connection to the Pipspooks.

  • Ghost Whisperer I - Pipspooks will move faster and require one less trinket to be satisfied and move on.
  • Ghost Whisperer II - Pipspooks are guaranteed to reward 1-2 additional Mourning Glories when satisfied.
    • Prerequisite: Ghost Whisperer I
  • Ghost Whisperer III - Pipspooks will occasionally reward a Seed of Sorrow which can be planted in tilled soil to farm Mourning Glories. Does not require much care and yields 5-8 Mourning Glories but does not grant additional seeds.
    • Prerequisite: Ghost Whisperer II

Herbalism Branch - Various crafts for new elixirs and elixir accessories.

  • Elixir Case - Craft a unique storage case for Ghostly Elixirs that contains six inventory slots and can be carried in the inventory.
    • Materials: Boards, Petals x3
  • Herbal Diary - Craft a book with five uses, temporarily grants the following bonuses to Wendy for three minutes: 25% chance to save a Mourning Glory when crafting Ghostly Elixirs, 15% chance to double the number of Ghostly Elixirs created from one craft.
    • Materials: Papyrus x2, Petals x5, Mourning Glory
    • Interactions: regains durability inside a Bookcase, causes five flowers to sprout nearby when read by Wickerbottom or Maxwell (each flower has a small chance to be a dark flower), grants passive sanity regeneration when read by Wurt
    • Author's Note - created to incentivize hoarding Mourning Glories to batch-craft Ghostly Elixirs
  • Resting Peace - Craft an elixir that expands Abigail’s light radius, making it comparable to a lantern, and grants her a sanity-regenerating aura.
    • Materials: Forget-Me-Lots, Light Bulb, Mourning Glories x2
    • Prerequisite: Consume Soothing Tea
  • Spinechill Serum - Craft an elixir that grants Abigail a chance to freeze targets with her attacks and generate a cooling aura that prevents overheating to nearby players.
    • Materials: Ice x3, Mourning Glories x2
    • Prerequisite: ???
  • Philtre of Fear - Craft an elixir that causes Abigail to release an eerie aura which forces nearby monsters to disengage from combat and panic for a short time.
    • Materials: Moongleam, Mourning Glories x2
    • Prerequisite: Visit Lunar Island
    • Author's Note: Monsters recently affected by the aura will gain a temporary immunity after their initial panic resides

Remembrance Skills

Wendy's mourning skills are a force to be reckoned with.

Memorial Branch - Pay respects with Sisturn improvements

  • Flower Picking - Flowers have a chance to yield additional petals when picked.
    • Petals (75%), Dark Petals/Lune Blossoms (50s%)
  • Everlasting Flowers - Petals take 100% longer to spoil inside a Sisturn.
    • Prerequisite: Flower Picking
  • Language of Flowers - Dark Petals and Lune Blossoms can be placed in a Sisturn, providing Abigail planar defense against shadow and lunar entities, respectively.
    • +3 Affinity Planar Defense per petal
    • Prerequisite: Everlasting Flowers

Sisterhood Branch

  • Soul Link I - While Abigail is summoned, Wendy takes 25% less sanity drain from darkness and monsters (x0.5 total).
  • Soul Link II - If Abigail is below 75 health points and Wendy has over 50% of her sanity, Abigail will regenerate health (x3.0) and her power level (x2.0) faster at the cost of Wendy's sanity.
    • Prerequisite: Soul Link I
  • Soul Link III - Abigail's power level can increase a fourth time, gaining another 100 maximum health.
    • Prerequisite: Soul Link II

Tribute Branch - Garlands become a token of respect, giving them a new purpose

  • Floral Guardian - Garlands last 50% longer while worn and grant Wendy 30% damage reduction.
    • Prerequisite: Unlock 3 Remembrance Skills
  • Floral Remedy - Whilst wearing a Garland, Abigail's gain doubled passive health regeneration and +50 maximum health. Revenant Restorative and Spectral Cure-All restore an additional 20 health to Abigail on initial use.
    • Prerequisite: Garland Guardian
  • Floral Fortitude - Whilst wearing a Garland, Abigail gains +0.25 second shield duration and +5 planar defense. Unyielding Draught and Distilled Vengeance give Abigail a persistent shield for 4 seconds on initial use.
    • Prerequisite: Garland Guardian
  • Floral Vigor - Whilst wearing a Garland, Abigail gains a 10% chance to inflict 10 additional damage with each attack. Nightshade Nostrum grants +5 planar damage and Vigor Mortis grants 15% more speed.
    • Prerequisite: Garland Guardian

Graveyard Refresh

I can't remember the last time Graveyards in Don't Starve Together were improved to bring it up to date with other content.

  • Mausoleum Setpiece - In the center of the graveyard is a small collection of dilapidated walls where a Touchstone sits.
  • Grave Loot Refresh (WIP) - The current set of loot is lackluster and could benefit from a new table.
    • Common Loot: Trinkets, Gold Nuggets, Bone Shards
    • Uncommon Loot: Living Logs, Nightmare Fuel, Beard Hair
    • Rare Loot: Gems (Red, Blue, Purple), Lifegiving Amulets, Mandrakes, Thulecite Fragments

A cool skill i want for wendy is to be able to exit her body and turn into a ghost. Wendy body will still sleeping, but her ghost will merge with abigail and now you are in full control of abigail.

Total max health will become 1200, and any damage to her will later deal damage to her sanity instead. (600 health from abigail and 600 health from wendy)
The current heath will be caculated base on wendy current sanity and abigail current heal.

All damage and bonus also doubled. Take note that if wendy body die during this, the ghost also instantly die.
At this state she also able to haunt things, allow her to haunt pig man, hound, stars, or flowers without needing to die.

Restore - Revenant Restorative and Spectral Cure-All regenerate 25% more health.

I don't like this skill since those two potions are already really good and outclass most potions and it would just make it do so even more. Maybe instead make the Revelant Restorative when applied give abigail an Instant one off 16hp, and the cure all an instant one off 80hp.

Undying Extract - Craft an elixir that reduces Abigail’s damage to a third of her normal damage and extends her shield duration by 1.5 seconds while also drawing enemy aggression.

  • Materials: Marble x3, Mourning Glories x2
  • Prerequisite: Protect

I am not too sure about this one

  • Flower Picking II - Flowers have a medium chance to yield additional petals when picked.
    • Petals – 60%, Dark Petals/Lune Blossoms – 20%, Forget-Me-Lots – 10%
    • Prerequisite: Flower Picking I
  • Flower Picking III - Flowers have a large chance to yield additional petals when picked.
    • Petals – 90%, Dark Petals/Lune Blossoms – 30%, Forget-Me-Lots – 15%
    • Prerequisite: Flower Picking II
  • Everlasting I - Petals take 50% longer to spoil inside a Sisturn and Garlands last 33% longer.
  • Everlasting II - Petals take 100% longer to spoil inside a Sisturn and Garlands last 66% longer.
    • Prerequisite: Everlasting I
  • Everlasting III - Petals take 150% longer to spoil inside a Sisturn and Garlands last 100% longer.
    • Prerequisite: Everlasting II

I am not a fan of the idea of all of these skills since they are so minor and niche for a whole branch, but the garland skills look cool even though they are overtuned, it should feel more optional by giving smaller buffs to abigail like plus 100hp.

I like the rest of the tree, the grave section is cool and creative.

Elegy - Gain the ability to write an Elegy which, when used, revives the nearest ghost player with 15 seconds of Thulecite Crown shield.

Make it into player's, then were talking!

Maybe less shield time then, though...

Unless the "chance of finding rare loot" includes entirely new stuff into the loot table(which I doubt), runing around like a madman and collecting all this stuff to replenish a singular grave is kinda not worth. Either craft, like, 5 per craft, reduce the cost, or give it bucket-o-poop-esque durability

Ok I read the whole post now I guess it's ok while the last few abilities are in use as well, but tieing these skills to one another is kinda... meh? Fuse them into one, I'd reckon it'll be more fun

I think a skill that would allow to apply 2 or 3 potion effects on Abi at the same time would be cool.

also what about alignment

I haven't been able to figure out the Shadow and Lunar Affinities in a way that I like

It seems to me that Wendy's ability to interact with ghosts needs to be developed. We know she can enhance Abigail. So let's give her the opportunity to strengthen her dead comrades.

Imagine the situation - you are a team of several characters who are fighting the boss. But one of you fell in battle. There is no need to rush to resurrect him, or worry that there is one less fighter. Let Wendy strengthen a dead comrade in the form of a ghost - give him the ability to deal damage, as well as a shield or something like that

This would define Wendy's role as a character not only capable of killing a large number of enemies with Abigail's help, but also as a support character. Wendy will become a character who 100% always has to stay alive to save the whole team

And also, considering how many opportunities there are in the game for taming various creatures - let Wendy have the opportunity to tame ghosts. This can be done, for example, with the help of trinkets (which could be personal belongings of the deceased).
And here is a typical situation: the full moon comes, you come to the cemetery, tame a few ghosts, and already with the whole army you go to conquer the Constant. It seems to me that this is a necessary ability that should be studied in the skill tree. Since at the moment, Wendy's players spend very little time in the cemetery (or do not do it at all).

It would also be possible to expand the capabilities of the ghost. During the resurrection of an ordinary character, the ghost always returns to its native body. Let's implement the idea so that Abigail can inhabit living beings for any purpose. It could be spiders, pigs, hare, etc. (except bosses of course). The purpose of the soul's transmigration will constantly lose its mind and life, but it will be like an additional shell for Abigail, which can play into her hands.

And also, given that there should be a shadow or lunar relationship - just make two versions of Abigail in the form of a nightmare and a gestalt. That will be enough)

Those are all pretty neat ideas, but they sound fairly intense and complex compared to all the skill tree concepts Klei has delivered so far. This feels like an entire second rework as opposed to a skill tree update.

Все это довольно изящные идеи, но они звучат довольно интенсивно и сложно по сравнению со всеми концепциями дерева навыков, которые Клей представил до сих пор. Это похоже на целую вторую переработку, а не на обновление дерева навыков.

Maybe you're right. But from my point of view, I see perfectly well that the new Wolfgang dumbbells and the whistle could have been implemented in a rework, and not in skills

I'm not saying that Wendy's skill tree should have only these skills and no others. I'm talking about what I think would be great to implement in a small part of the skills. It is clear that there will be other skills that affect aspects of the character that are related to the percentage ratio.

I would rather wait to see the actual skill tree they have planned for her before suggesting crazy things that aren’t fitting of what they want to do with her. I can tell from observation of all previous skill trees that there’s atleast ONE thing guaranteed to be coming as part of her skill tree-

And that’s going to involve things along the lines of improved performance of the “Find lost Stuffs” Mini-Game, such as- A perk so that Pipspook float off in the direction of lost stuff, or the ability to see the lost stuffs without needing to guide the Pipspook to their location.

I come to this conclusion because- Wolfgang gained a perk to auto-complete his gym mini-game without having to do it anymore, Wormwood despite being un-able to heal easily, got passive regenerating Health, Woodie gained more control over his wereforms to boost their performance.

The writing is on the walls with this one.

As far as other skills go- I wanna see what Creativity Klei bring to it.

I like this quite a bit. Having an elegy item is a super cute idea and is very thematically appropriate, both for her character and the vibe of the game.

I say you could go even further with this idea and make it a eulogy - a short speech memorializing whichever character it was used on - complete with the A Little Drama "acting" animation. Its effects could be character specific, or you could just keep its ability to dispel ghosts and in addition send nearby player ghosts to the nearest active touchstone or something (only at the end would it activate, to prevent unwanted teleporting).

Super Abigail Odyssey? Based.

It could briefly stun bosses too, expanding on her already good debuffing ability. Pic related:

I liked your ideas, they turned out to be sincere. especially the idea of Herbal Diary! I would like Wendy to use a reading animation like Wurt's when reading the diary:3 I also want him to have all the properties of books, could restore Durability in the closet.and that Wurt and Wicker could read it. Wurt would just restore her mind when reading, you can make it so that the mind will be restored gradually as when eating Soothing Tea. and Wicker, when reading the diary, she would call on various plants, as does Forest Skeleton, and if they are not Pick up, they will disappear in 1 day

Those are pretty neat ideas! I really appreciate your words - I tried to do Wendy justice because I love playing as her. If funeral veils weren't already incorporated to two skins, I would've also wanted a craftable funeral veil hat. A Eulogy with abilities depending on a character sound neat, reminds me of an item called Birthright from Binding of Isaac.

I thought that Wendy's Herbal Diary should have Wickerbottom synergy. That's a really neat way to incorporate it. I wonder if Maxwell would have any more interactions, given they're family.

On the note of Touchstone abilities, I was debating if maybe Wendy could make a Touchstone Repair Kit to refresh them for all players. You could use the kit on the Touchstone and it creates a material interface like the Portal Paraphernalia.

I think for affinities you should be able to use pure horror/brilliance  as a telltale heart and turn Abby into a black  silhouette of her human self with red details  or  blue silhouette with white details a larger sanity gain for Wendy and the ability to help with more the just fighting and her flower determines the shape of the silhouette with maybe different details

My Thoughts:

- Exhumation runs completely counter to why Wendy is associated with death. One of the descriptions for her Victorian set says that she finds comfort in grieving rituals, which doesn't really vibe well with encouraging grave-robbing.

- Herbalism branch is pretty cool, but I don't really think  the diary is necessary. The resource saving effect just seems minimal and rng dependent, not really a fan

- Memorial branch is neat, I especially like the lunar/shadow effects, though I had an Idea that you could put Abigail's flower in the sisturn to have her act as a turret, increased range in exchange for a lack of mobility.

- Sisterhood Branch has some solid effects,  but I think Soul Link III is the weakest perk of the bunch, and should either be reordered or made more impactful.

- Tribute Branch is neat in genera, and is an interesting concept to make an existing item a pseudo-wendy Item.

Other than that, I'm surprised there's no apparent alignment perks, or Perks relevant to the telltale heart, which I would personally replace the exhumation branch with.

Those are all pretty neat ideas, but they sound fairly intense and complex compared to all the skill tree concepts Klei has delivered so far. This feels like an entire second rework as opposed to a skill tree update.

TBF, Willow's skill tree, currently in Beta, does the exact same thing. She gets a combo of Wortox & Maxwell's magic systems.
