Two Monkey Boat Attacks in 30 Seconds?

Recommended Posts

Personal server? Just turn them off. Saw even dedicated pubs started turning them off; hence it probably means.. it's a great mechanic, right? Who would've guessed players don't fancy being mugged on open seas or tanking dmg?! :-o

Who knows maybe one day it'll get a rework (alongside a combat rework hopefully) Instead of just turning the spawn rate slider up and down every time there's a thread leaning in one direction or the other...

@Mencken Do you have any mods out of curiosity? From what I see the least possible cooldown possible should be 80 seconds at max scaling and most unluckiness plus the 20% chance for it to actually succeed(80 seconds is still disgustingly small though don't get me wrong!). I may be wrong with my calculations.

Come on guys...

I feel ya
happened to me as well. 2 attacks in a raw - and I had them set on 'little' so it was crazy unlucky

whatever ppl say, it's not about skills. they are purely annoying as you set up to do something (like idk battle crabking?) but no no, you gotta waste time fighting them over and over again

@Hornete, this actually happens on vanilla servers: I had unpleasure to roll double raids (nowhere near 80 seconds between them) a few times. Obviously it looks unbelievable, and one has to take my word for it since I don't have video recorded or screenshot at least, but bugs are also a thing.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But even if it was guaranteed 80 seconds between attacks, it's still bs because one can roll them again and again and it's too little time to recover, plus each raid has abysmally short warning, especially in comparison to hound waves or Deerclops/Bearger. Moreover, a couple of times I, in fact, rolled triple raids (I sailed quite a bit since update and until very recently), which I believe were double raids + one more after minimum cooldown. I hate RNG so much. Not to mention that randomness is implemented in such a way, that proper learning of mechanic itself is impossible if one is unlucky - unless one looks directly in the code or executes extensive console testing (afk-ing near monkey island for in-game years while speeding up world several (dozens) of times).

Thanks, either it is bugged or I am wrong with my calculations, I appreciate your response.

Edit: @Pig PrincessPerhaps the timer should actually only start when a raid ends(either in victory/or despawn). I would think that'd be a good first step to improving them.

and its gets worse, even if your aable to kill them all, you still get punished by that stupid curse trinket things forced onto you, and i read here some puplic servers disable them? that shows that many realy hate that mechanic

Good luck surviving without ageless watches.

edit: I already reported this bug but they didnt fix yet.

well, powder monkeys cant steal watches from wanda, and when the update arrived, it was meant to the player stay as wonkey after death (if it were like this, then it wouldnt be a problem), but now it is not like this, if you lose your ageless watches (dying or be stolen by monkeys), if you revive, you cant heal because wanda only heal with ageless watches...

This makes me think that it's not a case of behind the scenes tweaking and more so one of the updates broke the raid mechanic and wonkeys.

Well who have guessed.... that's exactly what I described in previous posts.

The ocean needs a rework asap. Plus (take this as criticism) advicing Klei to not put new content without atleast testing or thinking twice before introducing it.

i would be ok with ultra frequent raids if they were fun to engage with and not have armor and tank

and token stunning you its total bs, sometimes when you are switching boats (normally between your boat and the pirate boat) and you get a token in your inventory, you get stunned mid air and drown, cool mechanic i enjoy

This was fixed a bit ago I believe on August 4th, when Wicker's rework was released. I tested in-game to confirm and I am indeed getting no stun while being cursed during a boat hop (It applies to any state with the 'nointerrupt' tag in general too!)

I can't believe people actually defended monkey raids when they were introduced even when it was clear that the design was flawed from the beginning.

"Just give your items", "Just tank and spank all the monkeys you should have enough gear if you're sailing", "this actually adds "challenge" to the game now just say you're not good".

And this is even after they reduced the monkeys per raid, the likely hood of raids to happen, and added the cool down in-between raids.

But there's still no way to increase the time limit to avoid monkeys, no real way to kite them on boats, and they're still just random encounters instead of sea obstacles that you could potentially avoid.

I've seen someone say they should have their own buoys that call in a raid you get to close to them.

I think there should be a type of watch house rig using the wooden docks to sit in the waters surrounding monkey island and that's where monkey pirates will sail to and away from while also acting as lookouts so that way they're actual entities you can consistently find/track down instead of raids that spawn and despawn on you.

my favorite part is when you destroy every house in the monkey island and monkey raids still somehow magically keep happening

There's literally a portal that regularly pumps out new powder monkeys and this is one of the few pieces of lore you can witness happening in-game.
