but the portal does not drop hats and prime apes

nor does it drop very fluid sand that slowly grows into a tropical island. there's always going to be some differences between the animated shorts and the way the lore is conveyed to you in-game. is this... REALLY the criticism we're going with right now?

if this is true then that's actually really cool. wonkey update really was one of the best updates klei made in a while we need more creatures like them which players actually have to be wary of

God please no, for the love of god no. There is nothing I'm being weary of, I am instead just not going to the ocean cause i'll have to just have a net loss going out there in the first place. The moon quay showcased a lot of the short comings and flaws ocean updates have had in a grand light IMO.

I think the inclusion of pirate monkeys was pretty great. The only problem is I feel like they need more islands in the ocean to make sea exploration more worth it. There also needs to at least 2 more ocean exclusive biomes like the canopy and some ocean set pieces like there were a few in shipwrecked.

other problem is they didnt add more ways to defend against pirate monkey, for example in hamlet the poggers would steal from your containers and stuff unless you made the locked barrel (though nobody bases outside in hamlet so its kind of pointless but still). they should have done something similar when they introduced pirate monkeys like a lock to lock your chests and iceboxes to keep them safe from theft.

but overall i appreciate more challenging/annoying things in the game because thats what made me love dont starve in first place was the game throwing random things that would put me in bad situations and i question if i would survive or not

annoying = fun ????

pirate monkeys are not a challenge at all, they just check if you have armor or no, that literally all they do

TRIGGERED. I base in the rainforest/deep rainforest on aporcalypse clock island, especially as Wilba. And in general try to visit pig cities as rarely as possible, eventually placing some shops near my base in wilderness along with hedges and stuff (but not regular pig city houses). Sometimes I base in cave cleft/pig ruins in the early game, and first minibase is often near plains and rainforest, so I find those cheap cork chests very useful to hold a few things like pig skin or extra grass/twigs.

As for the topic, rework of whole pirate raid encounter would be nice. I posted some ideas during Moon Quay beta, but essentially I proposed making monkeys to use some simple tactics instead of mobbing player, which player could use to their advantage with decent mechanical skill, but punishing otherwise. One of the ideas was for multiplayer: if one player eats any sort of banana (including dish) in front of raiders, all of them should aggro on that player and the other players could take advantage of that killing them 1 by 1 while teammate runs in circles/tanks most damage.

just my opinion bro. its same reason why i like playing with lightning, wildfires, and disease (back when it was a thing) on. i also liked hamlet is sneezing season and apocalypse too cause even if all of them is annoying it makes the game harder and more harder = more fun to me.

only thing i would change about pirate monkeys is add an option in world setting to get rid of monkey curse and also add new item for player to lock their containers to prevent mobs like krampus and monkeys from being able to steal things in those container without damaging the lock a lot.

Ocean content was bad from its conception in DST, there have been many threads discussing it for so long but i don't believe there is an easy solution. The biggest issue is the main content is on the big island in the center of the map, that means that for you to find something like moon quay, you need to use terrible sailing mechanics as they were made for groups of people to actually sail the longest distance compared to anyone that wants to go from one corner to another on the land, it is much faster walking.

I can kind of understand why monkey raids and island was added, because ocean doesn't have that much content but it just doesn't make any sense to add difficulty to it when people aren't very likely to sail to begin with.

I would prefer if klei focused on making some big updates for caves, there is much more untapped potential as it is similar to the main overworld land, its just that players don't want to deal with darkness and the permanent sanity drain, if it was made more accessible, i bet there'd be more people making their main base in caves and there is just not that much stuff to do, usually I just wipe ruins clear out of all valuables in my first summer, mining every statue and hammering all the thulecite walls and after that i just kill fuelweaver.

Ocean in its current state with map generation will never be explored by any reasonable amount of players as there is really no need for you to do that, at most they find moon island, that's what I do and if I continue playing for a while, I do find moon quay at day 500+ as there's literally no point in wasting so many days exploring the ocean if i am not going to play long term. I wouldn't even bother looking for moon island if I wasn't able to guess with like 95% certainty where it is by looking at partially explored map.
