What are your best nightmare fuel farming methods?

I currently am getting nmf as Wanda using a lazy deserter to be perma insane (spam clicking the LD you gets you -15 sanity per click)

I wonder if there are any other faster ways.

(excepting cannon farming the shadow pieces, which requires a lot of setup)

I’m not very good at fighting nightmare insanity creatures, but I’ve found a cool trick that works for both Maxwell & Willow. If you can find a Pipspook and stand near it, it will drain your sanity- if there’s a Wendy in the game you can use this to your advantage to intentionally drain sanity, you can still do it solo… but having a Wendy who has the Pipspook following her/your group around is so much better then standing idle by a Pipspooks spawn.

Anyway, why am I bringing up this seemingly terrible way to lower sanity?

Because- Crawling horrors spawn at a certain sanity threshold, and the harder to fight Terrorbeaks spawn at a lower sanity then that, meaning you can make it so you only ever go insane enough to fight and farm the crawling horrors without ever needing to deal with the Terrorbeaks.

Its a pretty nifty trick that I can use even when not playing as Wendy 

Saves on both Sanity foods, and Sanity weapons/armor

i get my fuel by eating green mushrooms, fighting splumonkeys, fighting shadows in the nightmere phase, using purple amulet/bone helm. As max i also kill a bunny village next to the base sinkhole using the sneak. As wanda i just spend some minutes with the bone helm pressing F near base

now we have a room in the ruins with many fissures so nightmare phases can give a lot of nf without needing to look after fissures. 4 in the pseudoscience station room plus 4 for each of this rooms gives a good ammount for each ruins cleaning

I am farily sure there is a way to farm nmf using Maxputin shadow sneak, but I havent experimented yet.

I am interested in farming early game pre-bone helm, for my pubs.

i guess you can make a bunnymen fire farm but you convert them before you activate the oven

or simply spam duelists instead of fire+flingo

you can also wall monkey dens and transform them but it will take more time than the bunnymen since the dens are split

I was going to mention this, with some setup (it still requires having killed FW) this is the most efficient way.

With setup Maxwell can daily obtain 20+ fuel with a fire farm of bunnymen in only a few seconds.

With low setup you can place a boat (or a small wall enclosure of any kind) near the area you find with more rabbit holes, capture all the rabbits with traps (you can even leave one trap per hole permanently) release all the rabbits in the boat, sneak them all at once and then convert them.

With no setup and having literally nothing but your codex, chase away of their holes 3 bunnies, prison them, sneak then kill. You get much more fuel than spent.

Wendy can go to the monkey biomes  and obliterate them during nightmare phase, also with mostly nothing but Abigail.

Wearing night armor with a dark sword. Just the passive sanity drain is enough to farm nightmare fuel at a reasonable pace. Only takes 17 nightmare fuel to start. Can't do that as Maxwell though.

I usually just collect all green caps. It's enough to maintain sanity low

I usually find the fuel you get from both natural and nightmare shadows in the ruins is enough, but I also like to kill monkeys while I'm down there. You can make a monkey farm with things like tentacles or catapults but I've never done it.

I am interested post ruins rush, and pre-bone helm, for Maxputin.

Since you already made the ruins you can relocate and craft many bunny houses with a green amulet or two. And bunnymen respawn daily so the income limit is set by how many houses you made.

I don't think you need to know how to make docks, you can probably make the same thing on land, like any old fire farm.

in case of Wanda, besides splorange's method linked above, not really. before summer, you can just live on a steady diet of cooked monster meat.

what I found as the most efficient way to utilize this was keeping sanity above 15%, so you can see the shadow creatures, then downing a few purple steaks whenever a crawling horror was next to me, lowering sanity just enough to be able to attack them. not all that disruptive to your general gameplay, and you can do this whenever, so you'll probably never run out of nightmare fuel even before getting the bone helm.

Spamming shadow sneak & having a ham bat works exceedingly well for beginning game farming. It’s a little less tedious and faster than wormhole hopping.

For wanda, best way to me (which is very comfy and give you food in return) is just to build wall around splumonkey and attack them from 1 range bonus. She oneshot each monkey and give you lots of morsels + bananas as food. You can make a 2 long sided wall along monkey hutches area and walk + kill them along the way.
