New Puzzle?

Recommended Posts

Anybody else with the feeling that there is a new Puzzle on the horizon or already ongoing?

In one of the Return of Them Updates JoeW said we will know when a new puzzle starts (without stating that there definitely will be a new puzzle).

Asparugus found this in the new Maxwell Short (and has been visited by the Title Fairy):

Any other clues/hints/ideas?

PS: I don‘t know of this has any relevance, but Charlie‘s Chessboard is 8x9 instead of 8x8 and Wes is the only other survivor on a black square.

Here is what I found in the trailer, written on the walls:

  • DEVINCTIONIBUS = Defeat (same symbol as in Metheus puzzle):

  • INSANIAM = Insanity (symbol for nightmare fuel, from the Metheus puzzle):

  • PRETIOSITAS = Preciousness (same symbol as in Metheus puzzle):

  • VOCES = Voices (twice) (same symbol as in Metheus puzzle):

  • ALUCINATIO = Hallucination (same symbol as in Metheus puzzle):

  • Charlie and Magicae:

  • And that eye, presumably for Alter:

Can't wait to see what the others found!

What bothers me just as much as in the William Carter puzzle is that many of these latin phrases are declinated. Devinctionibus is plural dative or ablative and Insaniam is singular accusative for example. Meaning, the only instance you would write them like that is as part of a sentence, not as single words. It probably means nothing since there is nothing else to put together a sentence, but damn Maxwell, learn your latin!

While these words have already appeared in other puzzles, I'd like to pay special attention to this one, as PRETIOSITAS was the only one that took the entire screen like this.

The eye definitely seems meaningful for the same reason and I'm trying to think if a Latin word like oculus has appeared somewhere. It's making my memory itch but I can't recal... (meanwhile I became a fan of the word ocellus while looking it up)

The moon in the beginning... All the flashes to the Final Act video... Chess pieces - missing and present... There is a lot that could be hiding some clues. My mind is already overwhelmed by all the lore, but I'll definitely keep looking!

Idk if it's a thing in Latin but I'd assume it is- form of words can have a lot of information put into them. It might not be an accident, but I haven't done any reaserch so I'm likely wrong.

A few WHAT IFs:

What if Charlie‘s chessboard does represent the game „Checkers/Draughts“?

There are 12 pawns per player and all pieces move only on one color.

In Germany the game is called „Dame“, which translates to „lady“.

What if the „L“ that Asparagus found is one of 26 (ABC) or 36 (ABC,0..9) symbols?

There are 36 Updates with videos on this graphic:

Steam-Awards-Not-Starving.jpg.b20b1f2c0e

The Loss Meme part also only works for the vertical lines, the two parallel horizontal lines don‘t seem to be part of the meme.

Who knows how long Klei is setting this up.

I was able to find this in the ancient Civilization wiki page and its from the Metheus puzzles. Its the only other eye I can think of besides Alter.

Indeed. But the eye has been a recurring theme for a while. There is even an eye on top of the Florid Postern, and an eye symbol appears in several places in Wickerbottom's library for example. But in any case there seems to be an entity that the eye represents, and it's on the shadow side of things. Possibly another ancient deity, one that was sealed away as seen in the murals. Them, maybe?

(The "let us in" among the many "let me in" lines would certainly fit Them wanting to get Maxwell under their control again. And he's said "I don't know what they want. They... they just watch." while on the Throne, which fits the eye theme.)

On another note, it would be very fitting for there to be a Chess related puzzle in this one, so I'm glad there are some people looking into it. I personally don't know enough about Chess to be helpful, but my friend looked at the animated short and said it appeared as if it was a game of Chess at first (maybe), but could be something like Dame now. Except it's strange that the Survivors are on the white tiles when Dame is played on the black tiles only.

If we are still talking about Chess though, I wonder if Wilson is the knight and why can't we see him on the board when Maxwell's piece is turned black... Much to think about!

As much as I hate to admit it, Maxwell is gonna double cross survivors. Or, at least thats what Charlie think.

In the first two screenshots below every black figure is a deadly threat to survivors, and survivors themself a white figures.

In the last screenshot, After "going for an encore", Maxwell himself turnes sides.

From defending white figures, to attacking black ones.

Hey wait a minute, Walter the fearless is cowering at a hound! Your chesspieces were made by an amateur, Charlie!

Im more surprised to see WES but not Wilson in her last chess scene.

Wes is literally a joke and shouldnt be in The Costant in first place, whilst a Wilson is one of the main characters in game.
