Changes

  • Magician’s Top Hat can now be used while mounted.
  • The default action for Magician’s Top Hat in your inventory is now Equip.
    • Hold the Force Inspect modifier key (Left Alt) to access the Use action without equipping.
  • Shadow Servants will no longer try to give you items while you are in combat.
  • Dragonfly can now do normal attacks if she gets stuck while trying to reach Magma ponds.
  • Grumble Bees will retarget to the closest thing attacking Bee Queen and her minions, if they get stuck and cannot reach their current target.
    • This does not apply during the phase when Bee Queen commands them to focus on a single target.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed bug where Shadow Servants were not dropping their inventory when despawned off screen.
  • Fixed a minor art bug with Maxwell’s custom idle animation.

As Maxwell Main, I am very pleased with this rework.

While I can understand the visual fun of traditional Maxwell players carrying around the shadow, (and so am I) like wurt and Webber, they were summoned to do their job and disappear back into the dark compared to having to dig a few trees and lose an axe and a nightmare fuel.

As for the shadow duel: Most people are unhappy that Maxwell shows better aggression only when he wears shadow gear (I can understand them, I respect the freedom of fashion) I think this is an intuitive and interesting way. It's easy for people to think that a character closely related to nightmares is strengthened when wearing equipment that fits the concept, and I don't think it's a bad choice, although the best option in combat (attack watch) violates the freedom of item selection, as in Wanda's case.

For example, for the highest damage in the middle, you have to use armor, sword, hat, which has no defense, so a single armor can do quite a bit of damage to his HP, but you can more diffensive to use other helmet (not hat).

But I think we need to adjust the 4 tier.
In my case, actually, catching the Fuelweaver is only just before catching the CelestialChampion, which is too slow for all the other characters to have the final stage option. This may motivate Maxwell users, but many people think it difficult to catch Fuelweaver alone. (includes many supplies)

It's not a big deal for Maxwell to use the booty after catching the fuel worker, just like someone gives the WX-78 a snow umbrella before spring, but it's a problem that the winter giant shows up right on the 30th, and the fuel worker sometimes has more than 300 days. (Of course, snow umbrella is not wx-78's final option.)

And it's frustrating that the rewards you get for that are a little bit of damage. But I think it's a very satisfying story that Maxwell gets the power of shadows from the booty of the fuel worker. (I think it's a very good idea to keep consuming nightmare fuel like Wanda and the symbol of incense burner, one invincibility in the existing defense.)

We use shadow equipment almost to the second half of the game, so I'd like to buff them a little bit more, and add something a little bit more special to the fuel loot.

I like to fight with shadow duelists, for example, and it's a pity that the incense burner has no particular offensive power, so we have to just watch at the final stage. I wish I could fight like using the + version of the Nightmare Sword by adding a special kind of animation and damage when using the incense burner in an attack.

Also, I hope there's something in the final stage, like having a set of fuel workers, creating a shadow fuel worker with the heart as a visual reward(tank?), or buffing the duelers even if they don't participate in the attack, or acting as a terraia summoner equipment (which doesn't just end up as a damage upgrade,() like a double attack or a shadow wizard). The story of Maxwell adding shadow power and eventually submitting the shadow king again is very good.

In addition, this is a story of convenience, and I hope that the dizzy screen effects of bone pitches and the motion of shadows acting as if they were to attack (to avoid mishaps that would have to catch the boss again if they were destroyed).(charge helm)

Shadow prisons are an interesting effect, but now they're being used recklessly and become boring boss battles.

I'd like to add waiting time to this and change it to targeting so that I can use my brain to prevent certain patterns of boss mobs (Bearger, twins, Celestial Champion's rush or queen bee's crazy).

Maybe it's too op, but if it has the ability to cancel the pattern, it can also prevent dragonflies from summoning lava, or protecting the fuel cell's protective pattern.

As for her books, Maxwell is a master of shadow magic, so I think it would be a good idea to make them available only in magical areas, not in life creation, rather than in all her books. (light, growth, temperature, rain, etc.) Not tentacles or fish, bee summoning)

I'm not a master of balance and I'm not good enough to catch all the bosses no hit, so I want you to think that this is a kind of idea that's not exactly adjusted.

I'm always sad to see cheese go, but great job Klei for doing it in such a way that makes shadow prison still useful in these fights :)

Don't know how it could it be implemented. Out of the beta it works as a crafting station for the minions and every crafting station has some sort animation when you're close; now it works similar to DS, summoning the shadows directly from the Codex.

This fix is very good, the best thing is to be able to use the shadow prison without exploit, it's a very fun mechanic.

Thanks! I've been main maxwell for years and I've been looking forward to it. It needs some tweaking, but overall I'm pretty happy!

Well, it may be both? I imagine two possibilities:

- You use it from the inventory as it is, and when it’s on the ground and Maxwell walks near it, it floats and could have the “use” option besides the pick up. Although I’m not sure how useful would that be, but it would look neat.

- The alternative I imagine is that when we use it from the inventory, instead of just showing as open and closed as it is now, it will make some new animation -kind of like the magician hat animation- where it will float up from maxwell’s hands.

Whatever they do I just hope the codex can be used from a beefalo as it does now (and always has been possible to)

This is what the new Dragonfly and Bee Queen fights look like.

In summary:

  • Dragonfly: MUCH harder. Juggling kiting with sanity management with resummoning with attacking with shadow prison timing gets out of hand very quickly. Still doable, still strong, very fun (and frustrating :lol:) to learn.
  • Bee Queen: Identical aside from phase 2 which is more of a slog.

That is exactly how bundle wraps can be used both from the ground and from the inventory, and I see no obstacles for codex to work this way. I wish bundle wrap could be used on the beefalo as well, and I'm curious why it's not the thing.

All these qol updates seem reasonable. I am still satisfied with Maxwell's current state I have a question though: What happens if you have a beefalo bell and are far away from base, keep the bell inside the hat, and someone in base removes it from the magic box?

Please allow canceling the reading animation sooner, it's still clumsy spell casting time, when you cast a second spell it cancels the animation time of the first one at a good point, it could cancel by walking at the same point.

If possible, make the shadow dimensional storage shared between the caves and the surface.
