Pirate Raids are Too Rare Now

Are they actually too rare? I been kinda getting them left and right when I'm around the island. You just kinda have to hang around the area of the few big ocean rings to get those raids going I feel.

in my world all the ocean content except CK is near the island and i didnt get any in many time

i dont like at all how rare are them now and i dont feel like being un-cursed by dying is a good change

But I thought you liked the idea of being a curse bomb that can troll others?

Here are the old times for the last patch in the beta and the current times in the main branch for late-game pirate raids:

  • Inner Zone: 20% chance every 0-2.78 minutes -> 20% chance every 1.25-6.25 minutes to get a raid.
  • Mid Zone: 20% chance every 0-8.33 minutes -> 10% chance every 2.5-12.5 minutes to get a raid.
  • Outer Zone: 10% chance every 0-25 minutes -> 10% chance every 5-25 minutes to get a raid.

being near the island to have just 20% chances of getting them explains why i didnt get any raid in so many time

i think that how there were in the beta plus adding a non so long cooldown would be enough and better (just raise the chances 20% more on each area). Isnt like we are all the time in the sea and even less in that area of the map. Before i was scary of getting a raid when i needed to go to point B from A when the island was in range, what you are suppose to feel when you cross pirates territory, but know im always off guard for how rare they feel

ofc, is what i experienced, maybe i was just unlucky

The cooldown really isn't that long, are you guys using your masts too much? If there is like a salt mine near your pirates or a fig tree forest any time you spend there you'll probably end up getting raided, as long as you aren't sailing at high speed

And say it's the middle of the ocean. I don't think it's that ridiculous to spend downwards of 4 days (with pretty good odds of getting one two or three in that time) in one particular area of the ocean to get them to spawn. Not everyone wants constant pirates on their rudder, and not everyone operates their boat at turbo speed.

you need to wait up to 6min just to have a 20% of getting raid near the island. I think that is really long

speed, as far as i know, dont mess raids since in the beta i got raided using my 2 malba sails boat

the thing is that i expend more than 4 days (which already is 32 min which is ridiculous) twice without getting raided and i was slowly rowing cus i was using magnets to carry a secondary boat. Plus more than 4 trips to moon island (which in my world is near moon quay island) to activate the moonstorm and kill CC later

raids can be reduced in world settings for those who dont want to "constant pirates on their rudder" in 1/4 of their seas

I don't think messing with world settings should be the solution since it easily goes both ways we should be finding a middle ground.

I'm not asking for constant pirates, I'm just asking for a reasonable frequency. I think we can reach a middle ground between 5+ raids in a single day and no raids for 100s of days, right? It doesn't have to be one or the other? lol.

exactly and right now they feel like turned down

pd. glermz told me that is playing with them in "more" and didnt got any raid in an entire season so not even the settings fixes the problem with the raids

Oh yeah but what's cool is we actually have that already. See thankfully nobody is waiting hundreds of days for anything. lol.

I'll just repeat some suggestions that I remember seeing that would make pirates more of a threat without just relying on some timer and a percentage.

A chance for a raid to happen when lighting a flare or releasing a Wes balloon while in moon quay waters.

Spoiler

Making it so you can't just signal to everyone else in the server your exact location without risking your own neck by attracting unwanted attention.

Monkey "guard towers" in the water that will alert a pirate ship of your location they will have full visibility during the day but come dusk and night time they'll start needing a spotlight like Winona's lamp that scans an area like wx's jimmy only agroing if you enter the light or get too close to the tower.

Spoiler

Making it possible to actually "avoid" conflict for longer just by being a good navigator or extra cautious. Whilst being an actual "punishment" that isn't "punishing" by just existing but by making a mistake

Or a "Randomly" scattered pirate ship just sailing on their own that you can unfortunately sail into and get into a fight that would be more dynamic and better than just upping the pirate spawns again.

Spoiler

Sometimes you just get bad luck...

Or good luck if you've been wanting a pirate ship to raid yourself for loot.

Plus it's better than a ship to just spawn on top of you because a timer reached 0.

Honestly just make them guaranteed every 3 days or so and occur everywhere on the ocean :) I want to feel the chaos of this game again

Also to everyone saying (there won't be a way to find the island anymore) just make so the ship always comes from the direction of the moon quay island :)

Edit: maybe not the entire map but I do think that a guaranteed timer should be added, and the chances before the guarantee should be the same in the entire range, just hoping that we get some type of ocean 'hounds' in the future, I use the ocean a lot recently so I almost never have to fight hounds, maybe once or twice every year.

I'm just wondering why the world setting for pirate raids doesn't determine their frequency.

Have the current rarity be for the "Less" setting, and the old spammy frequency be for the "Tons" setting.

Default and More would be somewhere in between.

OR make actual use of those pirate flags, the ones flying the black skull aren’t moon quay natives, the ones flying yellow banana flag spawn close to the island. Etc..

What use exactly? Being more likely to be attacked or...? I don't understand what you're going for.

It’s simple, the pirate boats flying the yellow banana flag would only spawn near moon quay island, so if you saw Banana flags you’d know your close to finding the island- meanwhile the other flag would just be stray pirates found anywhere on the oceans.

Cool idea.
