Questions about growing knobbly trees and retrieving items from the water

Recommended Posts

So, I have a small ocean "lake" in the middle of the mainland where I would like to grow an above average tree for figs and tree shelter. I built  a boat in this small body of water, which is only just about big enough for one boat, and put my knobbly tree seed into the water using the winch on it.

Will the tree be able to grow if the boat is still on top of it?

And if I destroy the boat, what are my options for retrieving the boards that are left floating on the water? Other than console commands, obviously that would work just fine. But I'm curious as to what my in-game options are for getting out-of-reach items out of the water. I thought of the lazy forager, but I'm curious if there's anything else that might work that I'm not thinking of.

No, the boat needs to be off of the nut for it to start growing.

The Gnarwail horn creates waves!

im pretty sure youre saying that there isnt enough room to move the boat off of the nut, so what youll have to do is get the nut as close to land as possible, break the boat, then hopefully you can apply jam from land. while you're at it, why not throw in an extra nut or 2 for some smaller trees for decor?

I didn't know about that function of the gnarwail horn, thank you! It worked perfectly to get the boards out of the water.

Unfortunately, I seem to have learned the hard way about making sure I can reach the tree in the water from the land if there is no boat.20210903200126_1.thumb.jpg.ed4dc18722c242d71943f62cfd2c6dc4.jpg

There's no room to place a new boat. I think this "lake" is no longer usable, other than as a pretty planter for my decorative tree. ^o^;>

Unless perhaps there's some way to remove the tree from the water? Like I said, no room for a boat, and I can't reach it. Pretty sure burning it with a fire staff will just leave a burned tree, still in the way. I'm cool with leaving it as it is, but if there's a fix, I would be very happy to learn what it is.

Hmm... that's a toughie. Yeah you're (probably) right about it just leaving behind a burnt tree, I've got no idea how you might be able to destroy it.

How did you move the seed there? on a beefalo? Cause i couldn't jump with the seed on my back from boat to the land.

Beefalo or having the boat so close to the shore, the character can jumo based on speed so is possible to jump with them but very short distance

Anyways, the best is having a beefalo to move them

@Cr4zyFl4mes I was able to hop onto the boat from the land with the seed on my back because it was so close.

@Spino43 Weather pain is a very clever idea! I'll try that next time I play, and I don't see why it shouldn't work. Thank you!

Update: Weather Pain unfortunately leaves behind a stump, so it's still blocking the lake from new boats being placed. But it was a good idea!

I'm just going to accept that my lake is just an attractive planter for my little knobbly tree, and I've learned to be more careful about the tree seed placement in the future. Thank you for the responses, everyone!

Try using a fire staff on the stump

The saga of the unreachable tree in the middle of the lake has a happy ending!

First, here is the tree, as it was.

Here is the weather pain, successfully reducing the tree to a stump.

And here is that stump burning from the fire staff. And two puffins there to observe.20210904225106_1.thumb.jpg.7492a797c57ef8bd966b219e4c633193.jpg

Mission accomplished!

Thank you for your suggestions and advice, everyone!

Post-credits scene to the unreachable tree saga. :wilson_wink:

As difficult as it was at first, I'm happy that I stuck with it and cleared out my little lake so that I could grow some above-average trees in it properly. This is going to be an excellent camp here in the shelter of the trees, with a steady supply of figs on top of it. I hope any future worlds I make have similar small bodies of water in the middle of the mainland, because this is a great arrangement once I figured out how to make it work.

heartwarming :)) all this reminds me of when i asked pl for help maining Wicker healer back in forge season 2. the friendly, helpful response i got then is what made me stick around the forums anyways
