Isn't Wortox Have A Problem?

Recommended Posts

I really bored from Maxwell and just wanted to play with another character. Characteristic types of survivors is really important to me. I always see funny how Wortox speaking and acting. It's like a devil and a kid. So I wanted to give a try to him.

But When I tried him I saw one thing about him. He just don't have any real downside. It's really important because downsides is more important than upsides. He have great upsides like healing, teleporting, feeding with soul which makes him really easy peasy character. He have food problems but when we look close, you don't even have to eat food that much. The only problem will be sanity after a moment (which we are talking about a guy don't scare from creatures) but this guy can run from even from nightmares and there is no nice sanity food to eat (also he still can sleep.).

I think he really needs a fix.

Wortox is great, I play him without Armor and while only using spears. Why?? Because his self healing is just that OP.

But characters don’t have to have harsh crippling downsides, at least not unless on a more difficult mode.

I think Wortox’s Biggest problem is that his souls stack to 20 and they all serve the exact same purpose... Look at EVERY Reworked character and you can see how and where that is wrong..

Wigfrid now carries around several song books, Wendy now carries around several potions, Willow Bernie Dolls, Sewing kits etc.. Woodie Ingredients for crafting Totems..

How to properly balance Wortox- Souls have to be blended together with other ingredients to craft different soul types..

Souls now only stack to 8 but you can carry 8 of each Soul Type-

A Purple Colored Soul is used for Eating.

A Red Color Soul is used for Healing.

Green Soul is used for Teleportation.

Souls from kills are Black.. and they have to be mixed with the appropriate ingredients to create the color Soul Use they serve.

Wortox now effectively has to lug around extra items in his inventory slots same as everyone else that’s been reworked so far.

Time is the main resource in DST. Wortox is time efficient thanks to souls that serve both hunger and health purposes. He also has troubles to deal with sanity time efficiently. Killing butterflies and the urge to get involved in more fights than usual for soul farming is also time consuming.

These are his downsides that most people don't see. I agree he's still a very powerful character though, if not one of the best.

If you can handle sanity well, good for you. I constantly go hungry as him, get too many souls at once and can't time my jumps. Also going off the path bc "ooo butterfly" and then having no healing in winter because spiders are suddenly way further than I remember (or someone destroyed the nest on pubs) is bothersome. Might not be super difficult but what other weakness do you suggest for a character with instant food and healing other than sanity issues? The only thing I could think of is him unable to hold live animals which makes too many things in the game impossible (bye beeboxes, bee mines, glossamer saddle, prestihitator etc etc). If you take away his main upside (teleports) he will be much less interesting to play.

So yeah, if you find insanity easy to deal with then good for you, for other people it is an actual downside that can complicate stuff esp in early game. I can't think of any other downside than the ones he already has.

Excuse me, what? Please, you sound like Edgy Rick. You don't even have to pay a cent for him, and just because he has really good health and hunger management and he costs money doesn't make him p2w. Wickerbottom can get food whenever she wants, and if she costed money, I would have no doubt that people would call her pay to win just because she is extremely good in a certain area of the game.

Yeah I don't think that makes much sense considering Wolfgang and Wicker compared to Wormood and Wurt.

I can.. limit his teleportation to only being able to teleport in the direction he is facing in and by a predetermined distance.

That’s the ONLY Advantage PC Wortox has over Console Wortox.

But your other points are perfectly valid ones, Wortox does have downsides (and decent ones at that too!) But if your good at the game or good at his Downsides in particular.. then he will seem OP & Broken.

But the same can be said of every other (Reworked) Character.

You can’t really count Wilson, Wes, Wickerbottom, Wolfgang, WX78, Webber or Maxwell because we don’t know how much (or how little) they are subject to change.

In the hands of efficient advanced players - if one doesn't mind either being insane almost all times, hunting almost all times and/or fighting almost all times in beginning-to-mid game-play (more so if one learns how to consistently use teleportation invincibility) - then yes, Wortox is a good character; with groups it shines even further, having the healing factor covered for entire team. Problem is Wortox's cons (monster being attacked on spot by usually farmable mobs, 1/2 hunger-bon from foods, sanity penalty from eating souls) are a death-trap for bulk player-base and major deterrent (aside the fact is payed/weavable vis spools). For majority of players Wortox is anything but an approachable character and it shows plenty (being constantly in the 5 least-picked characters on all servers out there). For you, OP, Wortox might seem not to have cons because you mastered Hunger/Sanity/Health and other game-mechanics. For most players that's not the case as they feel the blunt of his cons.

people forget that downside means downside even if they learned how to deal with it

like that post talking about walter having no downsides, just hilarious

Wortox is great imo because he is a character with a learning curve depending on how skillful you are as a player. Micromanaging souls and being efficient as possible with them to manage both your hunger and health at the cost of your sanity or using them to quickly traverse the map rewards you for playing around the soul mechanic and being efficient with your time management. Wortox rewards efficiency by allowing you to be more efficient, while having a huge deficit if you're not due to him getting half the values from food and having a reliance on souls. His team synergy is insane, and I think that's the point. He was the first new character to join the roster after the announcement of reworks and new characters, and his strengths made him stand out and challenged the "meta". The only thing that could be fixed would be how he can exploit the range of the teleport on PC with client side zoom mods by having the souls have a range, but other than that I think Wortox is fine as is.

And of course Wortox has said downsides no matter one's skill level. I specifically wrote "Problem is Wortox's cons (monster being attacked on spot by usually farmable mobs, 1/2 hunger-bon from foods, sanity penalty from eating souls) are a death-trap for bulk player-base and major deterrent". For the advanced minority those cons mean "being insane almost all times, hunting almost all times and/or fighting almost all times in beginning-to-mid game-play". Getting 1/2 from food for example means you need to farm 200%. Sure, late-game farms can cover that, but still requires to do something at a level you don't need to with Wilson (default). Saying "Wortox has no downside" is obviously a crass exaggeration by any metric.

If you're good enough where racist pigs + 2x food required isn't a real downside you're good enough where none of the downsides are real downsides. The closest would be Maxwell's frailty and Warly/Wormwood's healing deficiency, but Maxwell's fraily and Warly's healing problems can be worked around a lot easier than Wortox's racism downside can.

Wortox isn't even in the top 5 strongest characters.
