Portability of regular tent

  1. 1. Make regular tent portable?

With the introduction of Walter, I never cease to be amazed how incredibly powerful his tent roll is. It's superior to regular tent in almost every way - has more uses, much cheaper to craft (made solely from twigs and grass) and most importantly is portable. With such thing in existence, it's relatively pointless to craft regular tents when you can just ask your fellow Walter to mass-craft his tent rolls like Wigfrid does with her helms and they will last you a long time. Or you can use celestial portal and do that yourself, obviously.

Portable structures didn't exist when tent was added in the game, but since they are now a thing, shouldn't tent be portable too like it is in real life? This way tents would at least have a chance to ever be crafted, because they can be made on the go instead of having to run back to base when walter's tent roll runs out of uses.

The regular tent (and siesta lean to) are still better in regards of health restored over time. Even Walter should use a regular tent if its available whenever he just needs HP restoration, as it will give you twice the amount of HP for the same amount of hunger consumed, compared to the portable one.

Even if the portable tent has 4 more uses, one does not replace the other: At your base or places you visit often, if you will be sleeping as an emergency healing method, its still much more efficient to have a regular tent placed. For places you probably will not pass by often, then just install and remove a portable one.

In general and unless you are playing as Wormwood, Sleeping is still not a very efficient way to heal over time regardless of the tent, but if you have bad quality food to trade for your HP then you have at least 3 tiers of tents with different options to do so (Fur roll < Portable tent < Tent)

Technically, tent and siesta lean to are already portable via boat.

Now that i think about it, if you have a Deconstruction Staff everything is technically portable as well :friendly_wink:

Tents and Siesta Lean-tos both restore 2 health per second while sleeping in them while Walter's Tent Roll only restores 1 health per second. The Siesta also drains 1/3 hunger per second while the Tent and Tent Roll both drain 1 hunger per second, granted you must use the Siesta during the day. The Fur Roll is actually identical to the Tent Roll in terms of stat deltas. They both drain 1 hunger per second, and restore 1 sanity and health per second.

The only differences aside from their crafting recipes are you have to set up Walter's Tent Roll as a structure, Fur Rolls have 3 uses while Tent Rolls have 10, and Fur Rolls will keep your temperature between 30-45 degrees (30 if your temperature is below 30, and 45 if it's above 45), while the Tent Roll will keep your temperature at 40 degrees (Tent and Siesta also keep it at 40), meaning the Fur Roll is actually better at managing body temperature during seasons such as winter and summer.

Wow, I had no idea that the tent and Walters tent roll had different healing amounts!

I only noticed this part now, but I'm also puzzled by the assertion that the only other option for sleeping when your portable tent (or fur roll) runs out of uses is to "run back to base" to use the tent there, because like most structures tents can be pre-built and plonked down on demand wherever and whenever you want without having to carry around the ingredients, and while they require a wider spread of ingredients they're still not really objectively expensive just because they use spider silk in addition to twigs and grass.
