Malby
- Crafting the Anchor, Mast, and Steering Wheel will no longer produce their ‘Kit’ item. They are now crafted and placed like most other structures. Existing ‘Kit’ items will still work as normal. This changes reduce mast, anchor and steering wheel's placement area DRASTICALLY Before : can place mast(from inventory) close to other sturctures After : cant place mast(prebuilt) at the same spot Is this intended or bug ? -Variant
I hope it's changed. I much prefer the kits, stockpiling was nice and helps for boats-on-the-go. The new system makes it insanely difficult to efficiently place stuff now. Yeah, I thought the kit system was smart given the way boats work. I'd much prefer having a couple kits on hand in a bad sailing situation. Developer ScottHansen Posted November 15, 2019 Developer Share Posted November 15, 2019 Sorry about the placement issue. We will look into making them behave the same as the kits did. That said, I'm totally up for hearing your opinions on kits vs no kits. The reason we took them out was because it's a bunch of work to keep adding them for new boat structures (ie the fish storage container) and it felt odd and confusing to have some with kits and some without. I liked the old system with the kits since its what made boats more multiplayer friendly (kits so that anyone can set it up if they have the kit). The new system kinda makes it so that the boats are more singleplayer oriented instead (since prefabbed stuff is locked to the player rather than boat kits that can be shared with the group). For the fish storage container, I was more confused that hammering it would spring a leak on your boat, unlike the other boat kit items (though I understand why it springs a leak now). Maybe the fact that it damages your boat like that is enough to differentiate it from the other boat kit items? Also anchors are literally a hole in your boat so removing that would make sense to spring a leak. Dynamix_Roxx
While on this boat topic, I’ve been able to repair my damaged boat with twigs when I find small leaks. Leaks that aren’t visible and can’t be patched with a boat patch. It rarely works however. Is this intended and why doesn’t it work all the time? It’s a very good feature! Queron81
How about an option to either "Build" or "Make Kit"? Like 2 buttons one below the other. I'm kind of the opposite, I feel that then not taking up inventory space is very nice and makes it feel more in-line with the rest of the structures. That being said, I think it would be neat if you could have the option of either pre-crafting it or just making the kit. Electroely
I liked kits better, personally. I can't really put my finger on why, but I fell in love with the system the moment it was first added. Though the addition of two buttons (build and make kit) does sound like an amazing idea. SinancoTheBest
Personally I prefer kits for Masts, Anchors and Steering wheels as some pointed out, they allow a more cooperative playstyle. I had an adventure where I had to "search and rescue" someone in the sea as they had no anchor so I sailed to his boat and gave the anchor kit I made. Kits allow such interactions while precrafting means only those that prototyped it before can build them and they can't be build more than one before placing them. I like it better when I can make 3 mast kits, first design my boat with an ice box, crock pot, winged blazier, alchemy engine, ocuvigil etc, then place them. It allows you to plan better to first complete all sailing stuff as kits and design your mini boat base before placing them through kits. Overall I'm ok with both systems bu kits>precrafting for masts, steering wheels and anchors. It's not confusing to have other new items like fish bin as a precraftable structure. Ezaroth
The kits are okay, but if it adds more work to develop then it's unnecessary. -Variant
7 hours ago, ScottHansen said: That said, I'm totally up for hearing your opinions on kits vs no kits. Here's my 2 gems on the matter. I personally adore the concept of making a handful of kits to go. Something about it feels really nice to me. The way I see it is, while yes, it's not like the other structures, that's kind of why I like it more. Having played with the new change, I'm not really enjoying it more. I know for the fact the placement issue would make it much better, but it does take away from that "to go" sense it had. Like you could spend the time to make a few bundle wraps of Boats-2-go and chuck them at your friends, and like that you're on the ocean Being impaled by Gnarwhales and the like within seconds. The new system works in it's own sense, and makes more sense to a fashion, but in general me, and a handful of my friends prefer the kit. I'm 100% against stuff that'd require more effect than seems needed, and having some experience modding wise, I think I know what it's like, but in this instance I think it's worth it in the end. I'm tried, I may have forgotten something but this is my thoughts on the matter. If it's an unnecessary amount of effort on your part, we don't need kits. I prefer the kits for the convenience of setting up new boats with ease, but why do the fish tanks need kits? I'd say to make the most important boat parts from kits, and the rest from normal building. This is it for me. The kits make perfect sense for the boat necessities. I assumed the kits were a well tested difference put into place for a reason. I thought it was weird the first time I went to build a boat, but as soon as I started sailing it was apparent why the kits had to work how they do. No other structures are that susceptible to being destroyed and need to replaced quickly even sometimes in large numbers. I think leaving the Boat kit, steering kit, anchor kit, and mast kit as is would be the best move. Anything new can function as a normal structure as it's not essential to the very thing it's being built on. Just my humble opinion. Plus, I already made a Ship parts shop that only works because of the kits! I'm not biased...
