S19TealPenguin
So for those of you who haven't read it, the steam updates page for Hallowed Nights features a poem by Charlie, addressed to the survivors. If you haven't read it, the poem goes like this: My dears, my dears, why do you stay Bathed in that vulgar light? Would you rather not come play With Shadows in the night? I've taught them how to dance for me Oh what a show to view! We'd love you in our audience, A seat's saved just for you. My friends, my firends you look so pale, No need to be afraid. I only want to show you all My shadows on parade! You know, I too once craved the glow Of light upon my face, But I have learned since then that light Does not survive this place. Such fools, such fools, you make me laugh, Go tremble by your fire, And be glad you've yet to feel The Queen of Shadows ire! So, what does this mean? Lore wise, I have noticed the following: Shadows with a capital S is likely another word for Them Maxwell and Charlie have different ideas about Them. Maxwell saw himself as the puppet when he was on the throne, but Charlie believes that she controls Them. Perhaps the reason for this is that Charlie uses "we" when talking about both the Shadows and her. Perhaps she has more of a connection? Charlie spent some time in the constant as a survivor or she tried to find a way to reverse her condition before ascending the throne. There is a return of the stage/theater motif that was prevalent in Don't Starve (the loading screens and water from DS among the most common ones) Charlie has a dislike of the Survivors, and may be planning on upping the ante on them. This last point specifically is interesting to me. Firstly, it implies that following the RoT updates, we'll get an update(s) that focuses more heavily on the shadowy parts of the constant. But I think that the Queen of Shadows Ire could possibly be a hardmode that some players have been asking for (cough @Canis cough). Also, there is a possibility for more insanity creatures, based on the line "I've taught them how to dance for me". What do you guys think? I believe the update after Ink and Inker ( or how it is called ) update will be focusing on something different considering the Inker update seems to focus on the unimplemented fish-ocean items from waay back in ToT and SD Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/113263-the-queen-of-shadows-ire/#findComment-1279842 Share on other sites

I believe Maxwell was just a puppet for Them's entertainment, while Charlie on the other hand had been fused with the nightmare fuel, from the beginning, and became Queen Charlie (as seen in the A New Reign Cinematic) she is both human and nightmare working with Them. 43 minutes ago, S19TealPenguin said: Charlie spent some time in the constant as a survivor or she tried to find a way to reverse her condition before ascending the throne. I don't think she was ever a survivor. She was from the beginning, from the single-player game, "The Grue" and was a threat to the other survivors. 46 minutes ago, S19TealPenguin said: Charlie has a dislike of the Survivors, and may be planning on upping the ante on them. I think the only reason she hasn't taken any action against the survivors yet is because she is planning something BIG, that we are unaware of. I don't think she really hates them, it feels like she's toying with the survivors more than anything. We can see Charlie showing remorse towards Wilson in the A New Reign Cinematic, but in the end the shadow side of her takes over and knocks Wilson unconscious. Mike23Ua
I’m pretty sure that final line about feeling the Queen of Shadows Ire means they have some nasty stuff planned for us in the future. Perhaps it’s a hint of DST finally getting its own Adventure Mode? Theukon-dos
to me, "Queen of Shadow's Ire" is just Charlie saying "Be glad you haven't P***ed me off". Though I could see a deeper meaning. Mike23Ua
I kinda hope that each Return of Them Content update adds a brand new Biome into the game as it’s own Island of sorts.. after all the developers did say themselves that now that Boats and Sea Sailing is in the game.. they have their core foundation setup for future content updates scheduled for 2019/2020. It leads me to believe that the final overall goal for DST will be to have players (for some reason or another) build a boat and set sail to each of the new wacky Islands they add to the game. (A concept that is already being toyed around with with Wurt and the Royal Tapestry needing items from all over the constant to craft) If I had to take my wildest guess- each Biome will contain some sort of item we will need to go there find and collect (similar to how The Wooden Thing in Single Player DS’s Adventure Mode works) Then we would probably need to bring each collected part to a location on the map and build the Contraption- Which will most likely take us to some weird new Shadow rules world where we will engage in one final epic battle to escape the constant. but the question is... what will the survivors discover upon escape? Will they find out to their shock and horror that it’s now thousands of years later in the real world? And how would that effect their age? (Get your mind out the gutter perverts..) I mean- Would their Real Life Age catch up to them after exiting the Constant.. they would start aging to catch up, till they become bone.. rot and then dust? its horrifying trust me I know, but it’s a concept that has been used before in lots of games and movies & one that fits perfectly into the DS Atmosphere. minespatch
This was on the 2019 roadmap but it looks like it was taken down from there. Not sure why bigfoot or another dev did but it looks like it might be a 2020 or 2021 thing judging on how the reworks took over their focus... Same with ROT. Okay, found the context. Here's the post it came from. Looks like they had something planned this year with the postern- Unless the black ******* is just the birth of Wortox. Zeklo
4 hours ago, S19TealPenguin said: Shadows with a capital S is likely another word for Them I think this poem is a great example of why the Shadows are NOT Them. Quote Would you rather not come play With Shadows in the night? I've taught them how to dance for me The word "them" is literally used in regard to the Shadows and it's not capitalized. Shadows being capitalized probably is to refer to the Shadow Creatures and not just ordinary shadows.
