Drowning this simple?

Recommended Posts

I always was told that drowning critters required door automation to push up liquids past a certain point, but it turns out I found a simpler method that I can't believe I didn't think of before.

Gentlemen, BEHOLD! The tiny drowning chamber.

Everything from my hatcheries are dumped onto a mesh door floor, which lets everything through. Eggs then incubate below, and when the hatches hatch, they can't get out to safety! Remember when they said you can drown in just 2 inches of water, it's true!

As a bonus both sweepers and the dupes can reach right through the door to it's contents!

The push water up drowning method is for already hatched critters. What you've discovered for yourself is what most of us do when we have no interest in eggs other than the meat once they hatch. It works really well and is nice and compact now that we don't need fancy automation to drop the eggs into the water.

Well, honestly I don't see the point of the other one, because this method hatches them as I desire them as well. If I stop desiring them, I just stop hatching them and let the population die off.

The water push up style allows for disposal of wild critters without having to manually attack them as well as disposing of extra critters from incubators if you're trying to train your ranchers. And can do the eggs as well.

I used to use them but with my current ranch builds, they are now unnecessary for me.

Well, I'm a little miffed at before when I asked (don't remember if it was here or the steam forums) about how to do a proper drowning chamber, and all I got was advice about push ones, but this is all I was looking for.

Also, I thought I was discovering something new for everyone, not just myself, and now I feel silly. :(

No reason for feeling silly. You figured out, on your own, one of the more useful ranching non-buildings.

I must have either missed your thread or misunderstood what you were asking about.

Also, sorry if I sounded dismissive of your build. That was not my intention.

Ehh, I'll get over it. I usually do. Feelings can be dumb, right?

Don't. It takes a fair bit of work to come up with something new, or a patch that changes something. We've been playing the game for years, doesn't mean everyone on the forum knows everything.

It's healthy for old topics to get re-hashed.

Incubators level ranching - thats about all.

I know incubators level hatching, just never thought about having an incubator for every single egg that spawns level of commitment. It goes up fast enough for 2 ranchers with 5-6 incubators IMO. I mean it takes a while to get to max level, but I start seeing level ups pretty early.

Very nice. Here's a simple one that drowns full-grown critters. It's quite similar, as it turns out. Drowning eggs is often the best choice, but some of my strategies require letting them live for a while. Note that it doesn't have to be in a stable, you could make a generalized kill room that works this way.
