jwa1776
I'm trying solar panels for the first time, but I've run into the issue of regolith build up. For some reason, it doesn't just pile up on top of the bunker tiles, so my idea of a tiered system so robominers could dig away the regolith on top of the bunker doors doesn't work. Is it even worth trying?
Gurgel
It is worth trying and it works pretty well: Cooling is 10g/sec 95C water here. The miners are steel, the tiles are glass.
SharraShimada
Yes you should. Solar energy is endless, and free. You want this. And there is nothing to do with the open space, besides rockets.
WanderingKid
Rockets, once you're past steam, take cycles, many of them, to come home. What else are you going to do? Might as well glass the universe.

Is it even worth trying? It's a big investment to set it up but once I got about 16 bunker doors worth of solar up with some battery banks for down periods it covered 100% of all my power needs. Check out this tutorial video if you want to give solar a go.

The Plum Gate
If you have an over abundance of shine bugs, you can run the solar panels somewhere in the base. Just needs a critter lure. There's around 90 bugs in this mess - both panels, full output all the time.

And sunglasses, if you've put it (for testing purposes) in the freaking middle of the base, as I (dummy, duh..) did... But this works awesomely well. A lot of energy for a little phosphorus. Angpaur
I think it is worth to bother. Especially if you place panels in piramid shape and make pulsing scanner network that saves energy and is optimized to save even more after incoming meteors signal is detected. jwa1776
Now, the shine bugs and solar panels seem worth while... What would be awesome is being able to make fiber glass bunker tiles
