LED lightbulbs

Recommended Posts

The bulbs in game are too hot and use too much power. They are obviously incandescent. Any space faring race would not use such a wasteful lightsource. Please let us at least research LED bulbs.

I'd be happy to see base, base light nerfed if we got this. That way you can't see crap unless you actually light it.

Wow, look who's moderatin' :D

I think this is fine for general discussion surely - I personally agree, lights in the game output derpy amounts of heat.

Maybe we do need LED's or something, possibly plastic/visco gel based lighting options.

They're literally 10 Watts per.

Yes, but that 10 watts is continuous within a closed system.  If you light every room (or even just a couple of rooms) you'll quickly overheat your base unless you set up some form of cooling system.

The irony when one looks up how much watt a lamp in ONI needs and how much Lumens it provides in return just to realize they had been LED all along~

on a side note, there actually materials which have the property "Light Emitter", however they actually don't provide light as of yet, only death (in case of Magma and Radium)

But you can breed little floaty LED lights in different colors...

If you want to slow everything to a crawl, stick a grooming station somewhere in an open-plan base and go away for dozen or so cycles.  When you come back there will literally be little floating lights _everywhere._

Something like this? (I just started ranching them lol)

I've never messed with the little buggers before, so I thought I'd give it a go.

Getting abyss nymphs seems to be a mild pain. Copper volcano helping me sort out some phosphorus though.

There should be hydroponic lamps and decorative lights.  The hydroponic lights, should be the ones we have now, no change, however the decorative lights should output a lot less heat as the lights at the moment, for decorative purposes output way too much heat.

It is counterproductive to use lights for decoration at the moment, as a cooling solution, normally involving pipes is required to keep the surrounding area cool and not super heated from the heat lights.

Who saw 10W Incandescent light bulb? Well I didn't saw it, minimal normal lamp that you can brought is 40W. Also we do have Fluorescent lamp and Halogen lamps before LED lamps was apier on the market how about them?

I have!

Well in fairness i think it was 12w or 15w

It was in my last house when i moved in, I was astounded when i saw it. I found it while replacing all the globes in the room because, surprise surprise the room was dark as hell.  The thing was utterly useless, looked like a kids nightlight when you turned it on, you could see it glow but it didn't really light up anything around it :p

The heat is really the issue for me.  The only LED bulbs I have that get warm in my house are my RGB ones I use for Halloween and even those never get super hot.

The heat is a bit absurd, even incandescents don't really produce much heat, I mean yeah nearly all the power put in them is converted to heat but 60w of heat is bugger all so it's not like they heat rooms. The heat from them in the game means 18 of them=one coal factory :p

But the game has a lot of little oddities, it's part of it's charm :)
