They are so wide in the character art and the fact that she wears glasses means she doesn't need to squint.How does she know what she is looking at if her eyes are shut?! Those glasses change their funktion far down, so you have to look down when you want to read, making your eyes look closed. This and a librarian cliche makes her eyes look closed, but in fact, she is just "looking down"TL;DR: Her eyes aren't closed, it's just a librarian cliche. It truly doesn't bother me whether they change her design (Which I doubt) or not as her eyes open when she is insane.
