Carnis
I'm fine with petroleum as stand-in for kerosene, but there are virtually hundreds of LOX builds already in the game meta. And in the real world: Present use[edit] Isp in vacuum of various rockets Rocket Propellants Isp, vacuum (s) Space shuttle liquid engines LOX/LH2 453[12] Space shuttle solid motors APCP 268[12] Space shuttle OMS NTO/MMH 313[12] Saturn V stage 1 LOX/RP-1 304[12] As of 2018, liquid fuel combinations in common use: Kerosene (RP-1) / Liquid Oxygen (LOX) Used for the lower stages of the Soyuz boosters, and the first stage of the U.S. Saturn V, Atlas, and Falcon 9 boosters. Very similar to Robert Goddard's first rocket. Liquid hydrogen (LH) / LOX Used in the stages of the Space Shuttle, Space Launch System, Ariane 5, Delta IV, New Shepard, H-IIB, GSLV and Centaur. Unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine (UDMH or MMH) / Dinitrogen tetroxide (NTO or N2O4) Used in three first stages of the Russian Proton booster, Indian Vikas engine for PSLV and GSLV rockets, most Chinese boosters, a number of military, orbital and deep space rockets, as this fuel combination is hypergolic and storable for long periods at reasonable temperatures and pressures. Hydrazine (N2H4) Used in deep space missions because it is storable and hypergolic, and can be used as a monopropellant with a catalyst. Aerozine-50 (50/50 hydrazine and UDMH) Used in deep space missions because it is storable and hypergolic, and can be used as a monopropellant with a catalyst. SharraShimada
The system already says there are more fuels. For the start, they build just the petroleum-engine, which is enough for testing. They will add more engines lager i think. AndreyKl
Rocket's fuel tank has two liquid icons and has a description that indicates that there might be alternate engines, I suspect second one is helium. And we are supposed to get that helium from asteroids. Sevio
Helium as a fuel? That's going to leave some people wondering what is up with that... For a long time, I was actually hoping that spaceflight in ONI would give me a good excuse to make liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen as rocket fuel. But I'll gladly take petroleum + liquid oxygen as well for that. Sasza22
I wonder if they continue the apporach of "combustion is possible without oxygen" and just add a liquid hydrogen engine. Also what`s up with that oxylite refinery they added? Doesn`t it mean oxylite will get used in some way in the rocket tech? babba
I would so enjoy to see spreading fire, sparks and explosions in the game with all the flammable fuel stuff, oxygen, plastic and such. Firefighter job, dupe pyromaniac trait, firealarm button which a nearly dupe can trigger if he "sniffs something" , fuel/fluid/gas leaks or sparks due to overpressure, weak materials, corrosion or collision... halon/co2/foam sprinkler, water hose, gas mask, etc. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/94883-make-rockets-demand-lox/#findComment-1078285 Share on other sites

May have to load it in the cargo bay or they may add a life support module in the rocket that has storage for food and oxylite. Since they've introduced a gas storage, Its possible they have a gas storage too. Currently the dupes doesn't eat food nor do they consume oxygen inside the rocket. ImpalerWrG
Helium would be a for an Ion engine, but it would be one of the worst propellants for it, heavier Noble gasses are better and even certain metals like Mercury are preferable. If were going to get a nuclear power plant in the future a waste product of fission is Xenon which is an idea ion engine propellant. D.L.S.
They use petroleum because its easier to get then liquid hydrogen. At current live build there is no way to make liquid hydrogen at all - you need at least spawn in debug mode some amount of helium gas to use it as a coolant, but even having helium gas, it is tricky to build hydrogen liquefier for casual players. As for liquid oxygen, well in this game you dont need oxygen to burn fuels, but also making liquid oxygen only a bit easier then liquefy hydrogen - need less electricity basically.
