Can't automate solids in rooms anymore

Recommended Posts

Now that sweepers can't pull items though mesh and airflow tiles they are stuck inside rooms to work.  Normally this wouldn't be much of an issue but conveyor loaders count as "industrial machinery" removing the room buff.

Now we can't use a sweeper to remove any items produced in a room like greenhouses or stables

Am I the only one upset by this?

Note: I found a way to work around it but I'm afraid to post it and risk Klei nerfing it too!

I don't see any reason why they'd nerf that tbh. We all knew that going through mesh/air tiles had to be a bug but dupes have always been able to pick up and deliver through pneumatic doors. If they're going to nerf sweeper arms doing that then dupes shouldn't be able to either. In essence, that's the litmus test for sweepers. If dupes can do it then the sweepers should be able to do it, and vice versa.

I hope your right

wanted to keep that secret so it won't be patched but I guess it's out now

any door works, just keep the door open and it can be swept through to another room.

So just put a 2 tile room next to your sweeper with its doors always open

Or they could have just let sweepers reach through walls instead of making us clutter up our colonies with weird, ugly workarounds. I dunno, this seems like a nerf that nobody was asking for and didn't need to happen.

Klei takes statistics on player data so it wouldn't be difficult to find out for them. Plus, your puft thread >D...

I'm not sure their rationale behind tweaking the LOS requirement for sweepers. It's totally against the idea of automating machinery and a dupe's hands-free experience. OTOH, it's realistic that machinery don't operate ethereally through walls but I want Klei to address this. What's the point of automating if you cannot have the machine do the menial work?

There are several legitimate workarounds I can already think of such as gravity-based doors that open after a period of time to drop the items down. Because the machinery is outside the room, then it can feed the conveyor system easily and not de-list the room's functionality.

Where you see a nerf nobody was asking for I see a bug fix everyone should have expected.

I actually didnt find this to be a bug or unintended as well, never done it because I havent used conveyor belts but I thought the arm went "Through" the holes in the mesh tiles haha

Here's the crux of the matter. If solids can't fall through it why should sweepers (or dupes) be able to pull solids through it?

So mesh and air tiles was an obvious bug. Pneumatic doors? Probably intended as solids can fall through them even when closed. Same with open doors of all kinds. They are obviously also kosher.

Note that an open door still counts as a room boundary, so just leave the doors open.

Saturnus.... that is a fair point 10 points to Saturnus house.

Could you build the plants on top of horizontal doors and have them open every morning and just have the sweeper arm pick them up from the floor?

If they're in planter boxes, sure.

sweepers still work though solid tiles, weird :?

Yeah, weird they only fixed the bug partly. Or maybe they're simply not aware of the much more serious bug of then being able to go through regular, farming, hydroponic, insulated, metal, and plastic tiles. At any thickness too.
