How about some darkness. Environment lightning

Recommended Posts

Hello there!

The other day i was in bed and i entered the ONI site, and i looked at the pictures that are on the first page, the screenshots of the game, and i saw that the environment lightning was totally different than it is now, somehow it seems to be all so bright right now, and in the screenshots you can see how lights make it look more beautifull, i never lived inside an Asteroid but i think, it should be pretty dark in there, so i thought it would be a nice feature to get this lights work like theyre meant to.

You could make the "world" more dark, and use lights to discover places and not only that, i like the idea that the stress level gets lower with light, totally normal, when you dont see something you get a bit more scared, thats where some duplicants could have some stats like fear the darkness or something like that.

Also a nice idea would be to improve movement speed, or add some light to an Exosuit so they can dig faster or wont get scared out there in the wild :D

Automation for lights to go on and off at night, light sensors stuff like that would upgrade automation even more, maybe some glowstones? or stuff like that :p

I would just love to see some changes in there.

Greetings,

Diego.

Maybe you should upload or at least link them so people know which ones you are talking about.

That looks great; I wonder why they changed it.   The darker areas look so dreary that its easy to see how the dupes become stressed in there.

Its not terribly immersion breaking but yea, our dupes are operating at full speed in what is often pitch darkness. Some of those places would be frightening or, at the very least, difficult to move around in.  I would love to see dupes waving flashlights around when entering a dark cavern for the first time.

Then they should reduce heat emission of lamps, not make game brighter.

Then that will affect the balance of decor and other effects caused by lighting.

*Not saying they shouldn't make it darker, saying they shouldn't simply reduce heat if that is the reason why*

Like dupes working way slower in the dark, and kinda going crazy if in the dark for too long. Idk...

thats something i was thinking about. Imagine them going all crazy haha, get a new medbed for mental patients xD.

Don't forget light emiting quite a heat. Having lights everywhere in base you will fry duplicants alive.

Thats true, but still you have to manage the temperature in the base, this would be a higher challenge then.

But then 1 bulb cannot produce 5W of heat. You can melt plastic to naptha with few bulbs imagine having to light up whole base :o it would not be just a bigger challenge it would be nightmare to manage heat. Even now game usually end up by heat dead (devs managin that currently by thermal nulifier)

Yeah but only way how to cool stuff is only recently by mentioned thermal nulifier. Maybe you just did not survive long enough? Almost everything creates heat and without destroying it everything will eventually heat to a point where it just stops working thus no oxygen, no life

Never bought a cheap lamp and put a 120w bulb in it? You can definitely melt plastic with an incandescent light bulb. They only convert something like 10% of the power they use into light.

Never had...and I never knew.. Huh, seems like I overlooked it then..

i just move all my heat into the chlorine geyser, then pump the heated chlorine into the void, 2 birds, one stone.

How about LED lamps? They could be build from gallium.

This would be a nice option, imagine starting with the normal bulbs and use LED as an more advanced option with refined materials.

To the heat problems, i start isolating everything from beginning, also i dont really start to build until i have everything researched ^^.

Here are some screenshots for my heat solving.

Maybe they could add a harder mode option that makes light more important. Like dupes working way slower in the dark, and kinda going crazy if in the dark for too long. Idk...

I agree. In my current base, I don't have any lights at all. I'm on around cycle 600 and it hasn't been a problem. Stress levels are always quite low since I'm feeding them pepper bread, have good decor in the living area, and require them to put on an exosuit before leaving the living area.

I've seen that idea suggested, seems like a good one. What about a type of tile that has LED track lighting around the edges?

diegobrego, I like your base, but I've noticed that you've got the mess tables. med-beds, and massage tables outside of the exosuite checkpoints. Do they eat, get medical care, and massages with the suits on?

Thanks.
