Zaydai
Don't starve together feels just terrible to play due to having lag compensation that causes you to get hit when you shouldn't have been hit, or causing you to miss when you should not have missed. Disabling this causes the game to have awkward delays in every action, moving from Singleplayer to DST was so tedious that I just don't play it because of that. Why can we not have crisp and responsive movements? Look at Minecraft, Terraria or WoW. All of these game have crisp movements without any lag compensation or delays like in DST, and they are all games with bigger servers. For crying out loud, if you somehow manage to fix this I will be able to buy and play DST with my friends already. GiddyGuy
Try looking at old threads where people complain about this. For one DST uses a different programming language called lua and this apparently isn't great for multiplayer games in terms of lag compensation, but you can still try to adapt as others have it's not that hard to master and figure out how everything works. I tried, and I can't. Yes others have adapted, but that doesn't change the fact that the multiplayer of this game is below average quality. PuffinBy
When the host is on a good PC and you have good connection with it, you can't feel the lag. So maybe you're asking to reduce system requirements? So you haven't bought the game, but you have personal experience with the game's latency issues. Ok then. Rellimarual
You can get used to it. I switched it off and on a few times when I started playing DST because I thought I’d never be able to adjust to it, but I did. Another upside if that is when you go back to DS, it seems amazingly crisp. Dreamscape18459
DST's movement and control feels weird compared to most games but it could be a lot worse. (Try playing any Genie engine games like AOE2:HD.) I don't really know how to describe movement in this game. It feels floaty I guess. In low ping servers its not much of an issue. In my experience playing with lag compensation off makes the game much smoother. (Even on 200+ ping servers.) I can definitely see potential performance improvements in the future if events continue to be a success. (Forge increased the active player base significantly according to multiple third party monitoring sites.) Since you potentially don't own a copy how have you experienced performance issues in the game? Family sharing? Console version? If you own an unsupported copy of the game you could purchase it on Steam as the latest version may have performance improvements the copy you played may not have. (I believe the game supports Steams two hour refund period so you should have a bit of time to test the games performance and see if it is playable for you.) Edit: You can purchase a legitimate copy on Steam here. http://store.steampowered.com/app/322330/Dont_Starve_Together/ Its also 40% off ($8.99 USD) for the Autumn sale as of the writing of this post. I meant to say "buy DST for my friends and play it" up there. I do not own any pirated version or anything, I owned DST for years but have only played it 3 hours, and have been asked by my friends if they should buy it and told them not to because of the weird desync and controls. Toroic
I've been playing DST since beta (and DS since beta) and don't have this issue on good servers in my region. On bad servers or on an underequipped PC, yeah I can see where you might have issues.
