Irrigation Water Use

Recommended Posts

I have established a four hydroponics tiles and put meal lice plants on them.  I routed dirty water to them from my toilets, showers, and bio distiller.  The pipes are CONSTANTLY sucking water in.  These hydroponics tiles are gulping down every liter of water I send their way.  They're singlehandedly consuming all my dirty water production and never seem full, but if I look at their status it seems they're getting enough water. Is something strange going on here?

Did you check the planter storage? Toilets, showers, and bio distillers don't produce much.

Could someone show a link of a working irrigation system ? Mine seems to not work and i don't know if it's because there isn't enough water or if i did something wrong.

Thanks !

I had a liquid pump set up and pipes to move the water to my base and into the hydroponics, but after everything was set up the pump just said not pumping. I added a liquid valve in case it was the pressure but still nothing. I'd appreciate some advice.

EDIT: I think the mealwood may require polluted water instead. I'll try that.

You see constant moving because the hydroponic tile storage is just a fraction of the plant cycle needs. So it constantly replenishes itself.

And it probably needs be said - bubbles are in no way indicators of how much is moved. They indicate movement only. To know how much is moved you need to mouseover to get actual numbers.

Mouse over at the END of the chain of flow. Pay no attention to the completely full packets in the middle.
They played no role in the flow.

Yeah they do? The packets at the end indicate how much liquid the building takes in, but if the whole pipe system has 10kg packages of water in them, the bottleneck is absolutely not a lack of water.

Make sure you're sending the right kind of water, accidentally filled my tiles with dirty water when they needed clean, had to deconstruct the hydro tiles to get it out of them (was trying to grow sleet wheat)

Yeah i had that happen on two of my tiles and "Empty Building" did nothing.

Every tile will make a reserve of 5 kg of polluted water, that can use a lot of water initially routed to it. Then it will replenish that reserve from the pipe as the plant keeps using that water from the reserve. If the pipe is full, it looks like the water is always in motion but it doesn't quite use that much per plant.

If you grow a lot of plants, though, it's a LOT of water. In such situation It's a good idea to decide which plants you will  irrigate for excellent yield and seeds, and which you will not irrigate and get good yield with sufficient food production but without wasting water.

I have the exact same problem as Riph I grow 4 bristle blossom in hydroponic tile and it constantly suck my water.

When I check their intern storages it show a full 10kg (their daily use is 20kg/day). And when I hover above the pipe it tell me that the water bubbles are also at 10kg... So I don't understand why it's constantly flowing ? Shouldn't the bubbles stop moving like before the update ? Or is the bubbles are now just here to show you the sens of movement and the type of liquid inside ?

Also when I tried to stop the pump momentarily with a power switch turned off, the pump stop using power but the flow of water continue...

I then used a liquid valve with liquid flow set to 100g/s but it is show a "not pumping" when I click on it. But there is the average flow at 123g/s which is somewhat reassuring but I don't know what to believe since the flow continue to show 10kg bubbles...

Okay like Lifegrow said I looked at the final piece of pipe connected behind the pump itself, and it said that the pipe was empty.

So I waited a day with the pump stopped and surprise... half the pipe was empty the other half was slowly being used by the hydroponic tile. So I presume that the flow indicated is a little incorrect but in the end it is correctly use I suppose ? But it's a relief to know that it will not empty my whole water tank.

Thank you Lifegrow.

is there another wiki I am not finding? Gamepedia isn't up to date so I don;t know which plants need which water please

What about reading their ingame description?

And if you want it all in one place... check the link in my signature.

I also have the problem with the hydroponic tiles. I have rebuilt the system several times and have tried all i could think off and the plant never stop saying awaiting irregation

Have you pumped clean water previously? If so, you should empty the tile's storage or rebuild it. If it doesn't work, it's most likely a bug.

I have a tank and only the first two plants get barely enough polluted water to survive

From what I can see in your screenshot I can only assume the planters are consuming 5 kg/s.
Are you sure you didn't wait long enough for the system to saturate?
