Soulk
I mean what's the best way to kill tentacles when you have no spider nest or merms nearby? The other thing what is a secure way to clean the Reed trap if i get one on my swamps? I am interested on this because i mostly play Wicker so i just learned that i could just make Boss Farms with tentacles. Picklesaurus
I'd say Deerclop, take a walk with him in the swamp and he'll kill some tentacles for you if a tentacle hits him. He'll also receive some damage, making him easier to be killed ^^ Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/77877-what-is-the-most-efficient-way-to-farm-tentacle-spots/#findComment-909697 Share on other sites
csc_unit
Because tentacles do not reappear after been slain, it is quite hard to "farm" them. But, the tentacle spikes and spots are now a renewable ressource from the Big tentacles found in caves. Best way to murder them is to bring very close the Fugu hutch and stay near him the whole time you attack it. It is scary but you should get through it quickly. Even easier when your dead sister assist you with her amazing splash damage. The Big tentacles reappear after a couple of minutes. As for the Reed trap, Deerclop is a good idea. Or, if you're not in a hurry, you could plant some spider nests around it. To fight them? it's a one hit kite + a good armor Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/77877-what-is-the-most-efficient-way-to-farm-tentacle-spots/#findComment-909712 Share on other sites
Lumina
Bringing a treeguard in the swamp is usually not bad, he will kill some tentacle before being killed himself. disies
For the reed trap use Bearger. In one of Volx's DST videos he used Bearger to kill EVERY tentacle (his ground pound deals a massive amount of damage). After that Bearger ate all the monster meat and was close to dying. Very entertaining to watch : ) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/77877-what-is-the-most-efficient-way-to-farm-tentacle-spots/#findComment-909742 Share on other sites
Sir.Fux
Also a good way to farm for spots is, when you are wicker go search for a bunnymen village and read the book "On Tentacles" there. I end up using one full book every day. Which is about 15 tentacles a day. Just make sure not to bring/pick up meat when the bunniemen are out. cezarica
I guess the safest and lazy option would be to using Bearger to clear the reed set piece (or trap as you call it), cos it will finish them all thanks to his slam attack that dose splash damage. Another option for clearing would be 3-4 spider dens that would get attacked by tentacles but takes time. I wouldn't rely on Deerclops as he prefers to target structures and not the player itself so getting him to target the tentacles would be a hassle. For making Bearger follow you have two options: piss him off (not recommended) by taking his food or attacking OR make use of rot like Hansel and Gretel did with breadcrumbs. To harvest the reeds set piece I would plant a meat bulb in the middle and once it spawns eyeplants will collect the reeds for you. All you have to do is check on it from time to time as it would digest the stuff in 20 seconds. Best results you get in Spring when rains a lot and stuff grows faster. I would consider building a lightning rod for countering the lightning strikes in Spring and 1-2x flingomatic to keep them safe and in production during Summer. mochilo
I used to main Wicker. On my first visit to the swamp I always tried to fight some tentacles until I get the material. It's a bit risky, but it can be done. You hit once, kite back, hit once, kite back and repeat. Of course after you can craft a spear and a wooden armor in case they hit you. Also, make sure there is only one tentacle on range while you fight it, any other around will give you hard problems. The other way, which normally is less risky, is to scout the swamp area during the evening. Merms will fight them and kill some tentacles while you run around. Then you can farm the drops, which also include tentacle spikes, a very nice weapon. If you want to minimize the risk, you can farm the drops during the morning, because merms will not be around. If you prepare your book before the first deerclops visit (day 30), look for a safe place far enough from your base to cast all the tentacles. I also recommend to build a stone fire close (but safe) to your tentacles area. This way you can locate it easily, you'll have a place to wait for deerclops that night without cold damage. Also, it helps you to make deerclops go where you want after spawning, as he will focus structures and he will go to your fire. After deerclops fight and next bosses you will farm all the book materials you want, and will also have AMAZING free infinite weapons. Wicker is awesome, enjoy! I would like to spend the rest of those days (until deerclops on day 30) at least 1 full day gathering Grass with book since it doesn't grow on winter and craft plenty of ropes for fences if needed and hay walls to set tentacles farm, what i would like to do its to either kill dragonfly(if i can set the figth before winter would be awesome to craft the furnance) or beequeen after deerclops for the bundling wrap. I was playing like this explore starting area gathering stuff setting a mini base, found beefalos set base near them survive winter kill deerclops, survive spring and ignore Goose, in summer craft the flingo survive summer, then i explore a little the caves, OMG it was so boring after some games to wait thaaat long playing DS as a farm game until 1 year when i have enough food/weapons/armor to fight -.- Now the way i get fun playing DST its a with more difficulty rushing things to not have to wait so long to fight, but now i would like to get better at rushing more stuff. My goal now its to get better learn much more advanced stuff to accomplish killing every boss within 1 year of the game, or to kill all bosses in the least amount of days. thistownneedsguns
as wickerbottom you can easily farm them. just use bee queen, beager or deerclops for that area. you will need to invest some but i usually get more out of it. mochilo
Nah that's too much rush. Just for Klaus you will need a lot of books. Four, five or more. You don't need tentacles for Goose, it's pretty quick to kill it yourself or just bring a few pigs with you so it is even faster. Best way to rush Dragonfly is frogs rain. It's not so easy to do that one with tentacles because of the way it moves. For Klaus, Bee Queen and Dragonfly you need special shapes and positioning of your tentacles, which takes some time and preparation, and I can say it's not easy to succed at first tries (Bee Queen is easy tho). Chill out, the best way to start the bosses-on-tentacles tour is Deerclops, so if you already know how that one goes there is not much more to say. pofil
If you wanna rush the tentacle trap the first year, your best bet is as many treeguards as you can spawn and bring to it. Deerclops doesn't do too well against the reedtrap, not nearly as good as a Bearger. You can also use the chester cheese strat. Tentacles do single target damage and they don't switch aggro, so if you push chester on top of a tentacle and let it swing at him, you would be able to kill the tentacle without risking getting hit. Chester then just regens and you move on to the next tentacle. You can also kite them pretty easily once you learn their pattern, assuming you're connection allows it. pofil
Also, if you let Klaus enrage it takes a lot of tentacles, I use up to ten books, usually stop when one or zero tentacles are appearing for 5 consecutive book reads. Getting his deer stuck is rather tricky. For the dragonfly fight: bring a pan flute and be quick about it xD Best of luck to you.
