Solo Deerclops Kill

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I play solo just to play for a long time (unlike choosing random servers all on autumn).

So, i'm on day 22. Winter's here. Everything has double health. And somehow, whenever i hit something, half the time they don't use the damage animation.

I am scared (mainly cuz of sanity, and that there is no FREAKIN' swamp on my map).

So, what should i do. 2 hit run? But my sanity will be 0. and the shadow creatures are a pain.

Help would be appreciated.

If it's that late already and you aren't prepared to fight deerclops, then I'd like to wish you luck. Tooth traps could help, and if you don't have enough (I'm assuming this would be the case) then I'd hurry up and go find that swamp. Trust me, your world has a swamp. Every world does. An ice staff could also be useful to freeze deerclops while you're insane so you can deal with the shadows. There's not really much you can do if you didn't prepare for this like you should have.

And then there's always the option of just simply avoiding him. When you hear him getting close run as far away from your camp as possible (or hop into a wormhole) and place a sign. Deerclops targets nearby structures so a sign is pretty cheap for some deerclops bait.

If you can manage to get a cane together kiting the deerclops along a road is easy. For armor and weapons I suggest football helm and hambat, you should be able to land around 4 hits and run away in line with the road and be safe, this requires switching to a cane as soon as you are kiting. Prepare cactus flesh beforehand if you are worried about sanity, and pierogie if you think you will need health. If this all fails, consider bringing him to killer bees or finding a tree guard and then finishing him off. Usually if you have no means of fighting him and he is chasing you, you can bring him into a dense forest and have him plow through trees until he manages to stir up a tree guard.

Since the others have already written some pretty useful information, I'll reply to this part!

When something is moving, especially if it's a boss monster, it doesn't always take damage from melee weapons. For example, the spring boss is especially hard to hit, because it moves slowly, and you can't hit it while it's jumping. The winter boss' movement speed is much slower, but you still have to land your hit at the correct time.

Just observe what happens if someone lures a Koalefant towards you. You have to briefly stop it with your own hitbox to land a hit on it, or else you just swing your weapon and hit nothing.

I also recommend using "attack the closest enemy" hotkey, which is CTRL+F as a default.

And this is probably the cheapest, yet most useful method of killing an autumn/winter boss if you're not prepared. Trust me, treeguards pop up like dandelions in our lawn when you destroy an entire forest. Two treeguards of level 2 or level 3 should be enough for you to just sit back next to a campfire and enjoy a good bunch of meatballs.

Good luck!!

I didn't quite understand this part.

This doesn't happen in the original DS but happens in this one.

For ex: When i aggro a koalephant, it attacks me. I got attack it 5 times (when it is not moving) but the attack animation only occurs 3 times.

Oh, and for all those trying to help me....i'll definately use treeguards! Though i have the tallbird mod installed, the adult bird can help me!

Also, i have installed a mod to revert giant health back to single player DS. As i am a single player, i am thinking about it. Any advice?

Oh! Then I misunderstood what you wrote.

Especially in the case of the Koalefant, the animation doesn't always occur, but they still take damage. I recommend using "Show Me" or some other kind of HP-showing mod to check whether you dealt damage or not.

If you hit them and they still don't take damage, then it's what I wrote above--you have to make them stop in their tracks to actually deal damage. I remember this never happened in DS either, I'm not sure why it's present here.

Day 22? Dude, you still have time to prepare! Day 30 is usually when he comes around, although he might come around on day 25 too...

I never thought I'd say this, but as an emergency set of weapons, you could craft 40 blowdarts, or as many as you can to lower his health so that the remaining health doesn't mean you lose as much sanity when going melee. Each dart deals 100 damage and he has 4000 health. You'll need some hounds teeth, those reeds I mentioned, which are found in swamp and azure feathers. Craft some boomerangs and kill some blue birds and make sure you have some armour on too, in case you fail to catch the boomerang (press space bar to catch it, otherwise it'll hit you back). Once all ingredients are assembled, go to science machine/alchemy engine and craft as many darts as you can.

This might be one scenario where darts MIGHT come in handy, although I still think they're pretty much useless. In particular, sleep darts and fire darts.

Catching boomerangs isn't that hard... You can hold space to catch them.

Okay. I accidentally made my base too far away from the so called swamp that I have yet to find.

I will lure him to the forests with a gajillion tier 3 nests so that he can fight with queens and tree guards.

If all else fails I'll fight him with a bunch of green mushrooms/ cactus flesh.

Will provide updates.

Lag compensation set to off(So you can actually see your position and dodge and fight accordingly).

Hammer pig huts and use the pig skin for a helmet(or a few). Chop trees and get grass and make a log suit(or a few). Kill a homeless pig from when you hammered his hut(Pick the homeless one when the rest go to their homes so that you don't have to fight them all), and make a hambat(Or make one when you hear Deerclops' roar, but keep the resources before that so you're ready) and then either 2 hits and run(armoured of course), or just tank him. Yes, tanking is possible, especially with how easy marble is to get now so you don't have to tank with logsuits.

Sanity shouldn't matter as much if you can see where you are and can dodge, and if it will, just prepare with sanity restoring things(Cooked Cactus Flesh, Jerky, etc.) or be ready to kill shadow creatures. Obviously this is all around a fire, and be careful that Clops doesn't destroy your fire.

Deerclops is the easiest giant(I wold say Goose is easier, but she at least can knock your weapons away and her babies are worse than Clops), this is defiently doable.

So, i finally beat the huge deerclops.

I took it to the woods, it destroyed a tier 3 spider den.

I led it through the woods until a treeguard (medium) spwaned.

I helped. It died!!!!!!!!

But a fire started cuz of my campfire. I was fortunately able to get the eyeball AND the meat.

YAY!

P.S. When i disable lag compensation, the game becomes really clunky and worse off than before.

That's the thing. It's already clunky. You just don't get to see it when lag compensation is off.

Fair enough.

There's it looking smooth but not even being close to it, and it looking in the same way it actually is. I'd prefer the latter, but I understand why it starts on and why do some keep it on.
