This game need thirstiness

Recommended Posts

I personally would like a thirst meter, or at least the option to enable it. It would add a new challenge to the game, and a bunch of new craftables (rain barrels, water skins, etc.), and I would like the added realism. I know that isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I think it sounds like a good idea.

Although if I had to choose, I think I'd rather go with some sort of "sickness" edition. The flu, the cold, parasites from eating uncooked meat, and all sorts of other lovely diseases to make it a truly good time.

...Jokes aside, no. It's one of those concepts that won't add anything interesting to the game, only tediousness. There are much more creative ways to add difficulty to the game without adding a whole new mechanic to annoy us, no doubt.

Why dont you petition a toilet meter to aid that immersion, you can even leak into your waterskin for some genuine Bear Grylls survival realism! Rather then add new mechanics the current ones need to be overhauled. Just adding a new thing to juggle will make the game tedious. What if they added a balance diet mechanic! eat too many berries and you will get dysentery! only eat meat? scurvy. its will just add complications and will only appeal to real micromanagery type players.

If the only addition you can add with the thirst meter is give you a whole new hunger meter you need to balance its just not worth it, we already have sanity for that.

Don't Starve --> Don't Thirsty. Perhaps in a parallel universe, everyone must strive to quench their thirst via ponds and potatocups. Oh, and Wigfrid is a vegetarian.

Rip Wigfridges. But the ideology of raw meats and other contaminated foods could comply

2 things:

- AveWarren, as in, the NoWayi/Joy companion?

- I don't think a thirst meter would work. If you were in the caves, for example, where would the water come from, for example? They could add small trickles, but still. Besides that, how would you contain the water, exactly? Glass = Bottle, Bottle = Made of Sand, you get the idea.

It could work if thought about and worked in well, but I just don't know, really.

I do think that it probably wouldn't be that great (for most people) as part of the core game, but it could be a fun mod for those who would like the challenge. And dysentery? Only if we get an official Oregon Trail dlc, including covered wagons with beefalo to pull them.

You are all taking this out of context. I really doubt his intentions were to add realism, he may just have wanted to make the game a little bit harder and honestly for anyone who managed to finish story mode, this game is a breeze even with hounds and giants set on LOTS.

Also this game isn't called don't go insane, or don't freeze to death and yet we have those things, so really you're not in any position to talk. :)

Many people I know said story mode was hell, and barely made it through. Many of their causes were by Shadow Creatures, or starvation. Adding thirst would complicate things more, and honestly make new players stay away from the game. Yes, veteran players want to have more difficult gameplay, but honestly, a mod is what you're looking for, not a whole new official meter. Yes, his intentions may not be to add realism, and he wants it to be a little more difficult, but honestly, the only reason why story mode was hard was the special modifiers. If you want more difficulty, use a mod, or try your luck at eternal winter, eternal summer, or eternal night. We want to help veteran players, but we also want new players to have some sort of ability to understand what is going on in the game before they have to focus on hunger, sanity AND this new thirst meter. Not everything is about the hardcore players or veteran players, but new players. The new players is an aspect that should be kept in mind when thinking about this as well.

EDIT: KLEI AND YOUR DOUBLE POSTING! Anyways, maybe you can also ease up on the salt there.

I will admit, it would be interesting to have thirst as a mechanic for at least Shipwrecked, as there is a constant source, instead of RoG or normal DS, where there's only occasional ponds you can use (the ocean wouldn't make sense as it's a cliff, unless there was a bucket and rope thing) but seeing as there's already a mod for thirst, I would just turn to that.

This is similar to what I was saying about new players. If they are burdened with sanity, food, AND thirst, and they are all low, usually you can just go in-land and get food as well as green caps, but add thirst into it, you're forced to either die of starvation or die of thirst if you don't pay attention. New players can be easily screwed with this, as it adds a whole new factor.

Because we're mean poop faces :^)

And now seriously, there's no need of that mechanic as it's basically hunger part 2: harder to find "food" as others said.

To make the game even more revolutionary, we could also make walking more in-depth.  We all know how difficult walking is, after all.  In order to take a step, you would have to play a minigame in which you would correctly set the trajectory, speed, and balance of your step.  To win, you would have to set all of these correctly or risk falling over.  We all know how dangerous falling over is; you could break a leg, or even your neck.  So losing the minigame results in a health decrease between 20 and 400.  However, if you do it correctly, you will successfully take one step.  Repeat until you reach your destination.

too far?

Lol DST CLOP, everyone remember that game?

Wasn't trying to be savage w/ my satirical response on why I don't believe this would add a lot of "fun" to the game.

But I'm pretty sure the point was made either way.  : )
