Russian
Haven't checked it yet with the recent update. However, I guess, you are pretty much aware that that "Silly Monkey Ball" works best if placed in the chest. That chest works as an attractor to all the monkeys around. Just have 1 or 2 chests in the vicinity with a monkey ball inside, and - 1 - monkey problem solved, and 2 - any attackers, like dogs, aggro on the monkeys sitting around the chest with a monkey ball .. yeah, I hate to say that. Soto8969
Thank you, now they are gonna fix it! Just kidding. i think it has been already reported. maybe one solution is to make prime apes ignore chests. stl1234
Another is to allow them to steal from chests. Or have them lose sanity while near the silly monkey ball. When they lose all their sanity, they would go crazy and start attacking random other things (except other prime apes). Yes, I can hear screams of "no" all the way from my house. Urfable
There was another idea that someone posted about a new structure that could have a similar effect. It could include the silly monkey ball in the recipe and would attract prime apes while heavily draining our sanity if we were near it. The chest + monkey ball trick is the only thing that's keeping me sane irl while playing shipwrecked honestly. AnonymousKoala
I really hope its not gonna be fixed. Maybe to balance it out though, it would work on a freshness type of thing instead of durability, so after, say, 10 days, the ball is destroyed and you need to get another one. (toot toot) Come to think of it, maybe there could be a simpler item like having the SMB hanging from a branch or a scaffold for the monkeys to play with. Or maybe a monkey idol in the style of the tiki monkey heads you can find in regular DS' caves. hotflungwok
I found an island that had 23 huts crammed into the small jungle section on it. There were so many monkeys following me around that the game actually slowed down and stuttered. Putting a SMB in a chest in one corner of the island is the only thing that ever let me visit the island again. Quyzbuk
I'm rather surprised they do bug out when the ball is in a chest, I mean the cave monkeys from the base game / RoG never had any problems with stealing things directly off the player or that they put away. They do it in DST as well. MoloMan
I acltually really like having the little demons around without the ability to put a ball in a chest. It makes you have to focus on putting your items in chests and makes SW a little bit harder and that's always fun, atleast in my opinion. If they could steal from chests, they wouldn't be stuck would they? Here is a segment from their code: inst:AddComponent("thief") inst.components.thief:SetCanOpenContainers(false) inst.canlootchests = false -- stops it's brain from trying to loot chests Edit: Removed some incorrect interpretation of the code that was previously occupying this space. hotflungwok
Then why do we see the pick up animation when the monkey first gets to the chest? They do the same to you if you have the silly monkey ball on you. It doesn't necessarily mean they were intended to steal directly from the player, so in a similar light, it doesn't necessarily mean they were intended to steal from chests. Hezel
If chest monkey ball is fixed, we switch to walled in monkey ball. No biggie. But that means they're reacting to the SMB incorrectly. If they can't steal from a player or chest, but the game makes them go up to the player or chest and execute the grab animation only when the SMB is present, then there is something wrong. I think this makes obvious that there's a bug and it's going to be fixed. NoQuitting
Okay if monkeys can't steal from chests then how come they have stolen things from my chest? Maybe they changed this in the last update? Donax
In any case, as Hezel said few posts before, you can just wall a ball to have the same effect, so there will always be a way to obtain the same effect wether the ball in the chest gets fixed or not. That's the original version, at the beta test, monkey can steal things in the chest. Later on, klei cancel this, because it's too annoying. I am not a native English speaker, hope you can understand. jeffhartley3925
When Shipwrecked was released, monkeys could steal loot from your backpack - there was even a cool juggling animation. So, I stopped leaving it on the ground, which was a big pain in the ass. A month or so ago, I accidentally left a backpack on the ground. When I went back to get it, there were monkeys all around, but they were not rummaging through my backpack. So there was a change to their behavior. I never saw a monkey rummage through my chests. There are several glitches in ROG that get exploited by a lot of people. Some of them require a re-log, so it's clear the techniques were not intended to be a part of the game, yet Klei has done nothing about them as far as I know. SapphireBullets
Gotta say I'd love an expensive but decisive way to destroy a lot of Prime Apes along the lines of summoning The Bigfoot to crush the huts. It's not as over the top as Bigfoot, but how about having a way to "poison" bananas and food items to kill mobs? It would be costly to make the poison(After all, we don't want the normal variety. we want the deadliest, most refined variety.) but not costly to actually poison stuff with it(You just drip it on them, it has a few uses). Imagine poisonining bananas and one by one, giving them to apes(who will accept them as if they were normal bananas, before dying) and then seeing them drop dead one by one. Satisfaction.
