Hey Klei, is this game still worked on? When will we see a new roadmap?

Recommended Posts

Back in spring you guys were pushing out bug fixes and new content several times a week. Lately though that seems to have stopped. The last thing we heard on the content side was that you're working on caves, but there hasn't been a larger road-map type post in seven months now. I think as early adopters we deserve more than just "it's being worked on."

DST has a lot of potential but frankly it has been getting very stale, whereas new titles like Invisible Inc. seem like they're getting all the attention and development resources. I stopped recommending DST to my friends because, among other things, existing content feels pretty limited and it's not clear when new content is coming out.

It would be nice to read monthly reports from Klei on the current state of the game and the stuff that's around the corner. It would give people something to look forward to. After all the game is still in Early Access and we are, in a sense, testers. Please tell us what to expect and when we can expect it by so that we can adjust our expectations accordingly. A quick forum post with a few paragraphs once a month shouldn't be very time-consuming.

Thanks for reading.

They just pushed an update barely over a week ago...

What are you on about, man?

Last update was on the 17th, which is 11 days ago.

The one before that was on the 8th.

Compare that to the April-June period. It's pretty clear that the frequency of updates has decreased considerably.

And of course, no road map, so we have no idea when to expect new content.

I dunno, it just feels that active development has stopped and the game went into what's typically called "maintenance mode." I've played a lot of early access games and this type of thing (infrequent updates combined with lack of communication from devs) is pretty rare.

Yes, we don't see updates every two days, so this means they stopped working on the game. My sources tell me that they are working on a Survival Don't Starve Moba. Stay tuned for more information!

There's still a plethora of bugs that need to get fixed. Can you think of any other reason why the updates have become so infrequent? Honest question.

In my experience w/ Klei's EA games, when updates slow down like this, they are generally working on something a bit meatier than just bug fixes.

We already know what they're working on, they've told us plenty of times.  Caves / Ruins, Woodie, Through the Ages, etc.

They take the time to update us every week through their podcast and show us some of the skins that their artists have been messing around w/ as well.

I understand your frustrations and that you've been burned on other Early Access games through Steam.  Did you know that Klei was the FIRST Early Access adopter, and out of every game company that has utilized the feature, has always been very forthcoming and honest about what they are doing?  Klei set the example on how to do Early Access right.

Just be patient, good things are coming.  Don't judge this game by others you may have played; this isn't those.

Quality > quantity when it comes to game updates.

That and I dont think they want to broadcast something if they are having a difficult issue. They want to give us results instead of excuses

True, true.

Many of the things that they have left to work on for the game are pretty technically complex for multiplayer. I'd rather they take their time and make it feel right, instead of give us some hack job just to show new content.

Not that Klei would ever do that.  ...which is why I love them.  : )

I pinned the recent "Welcome to Don't Starve Together" post. That has our most recent info on what we have coming up.

We're also working on addressing public server playability and rewards for DS RoG owners, characters skins and a UI revamp.

For a better sense of what we are working on from week to week, you should check out our Rhymes with Play devcast on Thursdays, we usually spend a decent amount of time talking more specifically about what we are working on and what we have coming up most recently there.

UI revamp.

I like the current UI but I'm not attached to it or anything, lets see what ya got up your sleeve.

As someone who hasn't played a million hours, I find myself forgetting where some items are in the tabs. Hopefully they'll make that easier (though I don't exactly know how they can).

Dude if the Terraria crowd waited a year for their update you can chillax for 12 days, dang. They have some HUGE content additions/overhauls to put into the game that won't work piece by piece (TtA, Adventure Mode and Underground as the biggest).

You got spoiled by frequent updates. Calm the hell down.
