RancorSnp
So, lately I had enough of reading about it happening, people complaining on it happening, people admitting to committing the crime, and most of all the fixes against it. Therefore, I have came up with solution that will stop this endless circle of annoyance : Whenever a player joins a non password protected server, he will be presented a text box "You are about to join a public server, where every player is guaranteed likely to do his best to ruin your game experience just for fun. Are you sure you want to join this server?1)No, I'll play with people I know. 2)Yes, I obligate myself not to complain later" But in all honesty, why would you ever join a public server in DST? Sure your friends can destroy half of the world too, but if they do you all have fun. Whereas when some random player who just joined burns your base you were building last 60 days it is most agitating thing ever. So yeah, what i am implying is it's better to play the game with 2 - 3 people that you know, than have all your playtime destroyed by troll, and joining a public server is 100% sure way to encounter trolls, no matter what multiplayer game are you playing, the problem is DST is the game where they can be the MOST annoying because of how much time you spend in one world. Arcita
Let me get this straight. Are you complaining about people complaining?
raiser
Well, public minecraft servers had this problem too. Until someone came up with a land protection mod.
TRENTOMINOUS
In all my glorious 10 hours of playing, I have never had a problem with griefing. Maybe just play with someone else?
Pyromailmann
The best solution is a private server.
Rily
I have more than 100 hours and I never found a griefer, just play with your friends and everything will be ok, right? for make some new friends just try to join to servers instead host
jgoldyn
I have come across plenty of griefers while helping run a dedicated server and I honestly don't agree with just sticking to a private server. I mean sure, if your friend torches a forest on accident, it's hilarious, but some people don't really know anyone with the game. Every game that is remotely like this will always have griefers (DST, Minecraft, Rust, etc, etc). We have been slightly coping with the dilemma some by untegrating indestructible mods for walls and structures (they still burn, but we also mixed in one of the no burning mods for items). It helps an okay amount, but there are still ways we are griefed, so it's not perfect. But eh, idiots will act like idiots. :/
leonseye
The only universal solution to griefing is simply not to play. Barring that, it's just something you'll have to accept at some point and try to protect yourself against through mods, private servers, passwords, etc. Some men just want to watch the world burn. That's just the way it is, in game and out.
Johnny5isAlive
So far I have 730 hours and have encountered many, many griefers. And I found the best solution is to only play with friends or Public PvP games.

It's fun meeting strangers in public servers and not knowing if they'll run away with your backpack or help you survive Winter.
Bomato
This "solution" is as useful as asking Klei to just remove public servers to fix griefing on public servers.

Johnny5isAlive
ghosts will still ruin your game I should have been more specific, I only play on Wilderness PvP. I do play survival sometimes but those are the times I play Wicker and try to kill everyone before day 10.. It always works.
