Why does being wet drive you insane in a matter of minutes?

Recommended Posts

I dont get how things interact during the summer.

Wearing an ice hat soaks you and everything you're holding in less than a minute.  This drives your sanity down at a ridiculous rate..  Trying to put on a wet sanity item makes you even more insane.  But when you remove the hat it takes more than a day to dry out.  It's so hot out that creatures made mostly of water are busting into flames, but drying out takes forever.  And simply being wet in hot weather makes you go crazy.  Why doesn't being wet in the summer help?  Is water evil in this place?

Make stuff slippery, fine, but being wet in the summer should be a good thing.

When I wear the Ice Cube, I put the stuff I don't want to get wet inside of a Piggyback or Krampus sack, which the sacks themselves are waterproof as well as their contents. (Doesn't work however due to a bug where waterproof items are not actually being waterproof). It is quite annoying though, you'd think water would help you in summer rather than annoy you more. Playing as Maxwell is really the only way to deal with it as his passive sanity cancels out the drain from wetness.

@oCrapaCreeper  not sure which patch you are playing, my krampus gets wet from the ice cube. I don't think ice cube is legit anymore. Now I get two heat stones and store one in chester.

Like I said above, there is currently a bug where waterproof items are not actually waterproof (Raincoat, rainhat, piggyback, etc).

Wetness doesn't drain sanity at all if you aren't actually wearing wet items.

In my experience, at least? Maybe I didn't notice because in spring it's dusk for nearly half of the day.

Fire will dry you off really fast, but I guess in summer you can't really use that and I imagine endothermic fire doesn't work for this purpose. (I don't use the ice cube though, so I wouldn't know)

As for being wet in hot weather making you insane, the water isn't going to stay cool for a terribly long amount of time (even if it's not overheating-hot), and walking around everywhere whilst being soaking wet definitely doesn't sound like fun. Even if it's keeping you from dying of heat stroke, it'd suck. Would you want to be soaking wet all day in summer? (while wearing wet clothes that aren't just going to dry off, because it's not that easy with clothes)

As of a recent patch your water meter just simply being filled up can cause a sanity drain (Not sure which number though.)

Wetness in summer shouldn't have ill effects. The way I see it, in summer it's so hot, the water should evaporate in seconds. The Electrical Doodad prevents the Ice Cube from melting too quickly, so that explains that :)

Electrical Doodads explain everything really. That's what I like to think anyway. =D

It's ridiculous being constantly wet, in a summer that is so hot that it causes things to burst into flames and kills plants.

If you don't like being wet don't use the ice cube. Use a cooled thermal stone and either a summer frest or hawaiian shirt. You can also add a straw hat and a pretty parasol/umbrella if you desire. You won't ever be wet and you will be able to explore for a whole day! Cheers.

Cat cap is supposed to be a good waterproof item, right? Mine isn't. Let's hope they push the hotfix this wednesday.

It gives you a good amount of rain resistance, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a waterproof item.

Also, they just tweaked the cat cap, so it might not give as much rain resistance anymore, in addition to how it's probably only a tier 1 insulation item instead of tier 2 with the winter hat and tam 'o shanter. They gave it a good chunk of sanity regen though.

Yeah I know, I misused the word "waterproof", it's just I still get wet with it and an umbrella... So must be a very low rain resistance.

I saw the tweaked it. That change made kinda sad though because it was gonna be my choice for insulation hat along with the winter hat. Now it is not good for spring neither winter, I gonna just use it on autumn for the ganity boost.

You're right. I'm now using the Eyebrella hat and the Thermal Stone.

It works well enough. I hope they don't nerf it though, it's only just about enough for a day-long expedition to the other side of the map and back.

I might add an Umbrella to this mix so I can do two-day expeditions to the other side of the map, or possibly longer.
