My thoughts on the current version of the DLC.

Recommended Posts

Here are my thoughts on some of the new things added in the DLC:

Wetness:

It makes me want to remove Spring from the game as it adds nothing to gameplay and is just annoying.

Because the time it takes for everything to dry is about the same amount of time it takes for it to start raining again.

And umbrellas are too expensive to be carrying around all the time.

So please make it easier to dry things or slightly increase the time between rainfalls.

Wigfrid:
She seems like a nice character, except for her dialogue.

The way she replaces all o's with ö's makes me cringe and not want to play her every again (my native language regularly uses ö)

But as there is no way to "fix" this I will just refrain from playing her.

New biomes/monsters/animals/plants etc.

I love them all.

They really add a lot to the game.

And that's all I can think of for now.

Also, it's late so I am sorry if I posted this in the wrong section by accident.

Note: I am back, anyone missed me?

I've not seen a single one of those bone piles and I've explored about 80% of my world so far.

And I am at day 30-ish and I've only had a single hound attack consisting of 2 hounds who dropped no teeth.

This is on a default world, so either I am unlucky or the DLC messed some things up.

A pretty parasol plus a catcoon cap will keep you fairly or completely dry.  Both are generally easy to acquire in the early game.  I don't know if the cap can be fixed via sewing kit, but the drop is high enough at the moment that it shouldn't take long to get a few spares.

But I can't get any proper items as my insanity drains within a few days while wearing my wet backpack.

And I can't go anywhere without it as I need my items to survive long expeditions.

And seeing as it rains every second day for me it's almost impossible to survive without constantly looking for sanity increasing items.

It's 6 flowers, 3 grass and 4 twigs and requires no tech structures?  You can get that before the first rain starts, make a straw hat at a science machine when you settle down and you have a cheap way of keeping dry.  I never get my inventory wet with willow using that as a base.

You should try willow if you're having trouble gaining sanity, btw get a piggy backpack and it keeps a lot of stuff dry so keep your important stuff in it and tools in your main inventory that way you can drop the wet stuff so you stop draining sanity.

I do got a parasol and a straw hat but my stuff gets wet anyway, even the things I got on my backpack.

Are you sure you have all the updates? If I am not mistaken they nerfed wetness bigtime last patch, including making the backpacks waterproof. If they nerf it anymore, might as well be just a visual treat.

EDIT: my mistake, they made piggy back and krampus sack waterproof. Regardless, I haven't had a problem with wetness, especially since the patch, and would be disappointed if it was taken down more.

Yeah, Piggyback and Krampus sack are waterproof. Piggyback also got its movement penalty reduced as well.

Before I got used to Wetness, I simply played as Maxwell so I would not have to deal with the sanity loss from wearing wet stuff.

Oy bro, you should probs stop commenting on the gameplay till you try the latest patch - wetness did get a huge nerf and lots of mechanics got retinkered to deal with as much. Prior, I had the same issue. (No offence intended, but your intelligence is better geared towards more recent updates).

Having said as much: I do feel that the Wetness mechanic is - and pardon the pun - a bit dry. Besides being a constant nuisance to deal with and account for, it doesn't offer much dynamics to the game - merely a tedious pseudo difficulty mechanic that's washed over by better players.

Whilst I think it's "cool", I would like to see some dynamics implemented besides the current 'wetness' on/off dissolution. Sure, the game is about 'survival', but such blatant mechanics offer nothing to longevity. As an event, it's predictable and uninteresting.

The follow-up wasn't offensive though. It was a compliment--I literally mean the game would benefit if you play-tested the latest version before offering critique. I'm not being malicious, and I think you've misunderstood my stance.

Craft a Piggyback. They're mobility debuff got reduced and they're waterproof. You can acquire plenty of pigskins early on just by finding a touch stone

I don't have problems with wetness but I see your point. (I hate summers spontaneous combustion)

YES, That ö thing is so annoying if your native language uses ö, it makes me stubble every time when I'm reading her lines, I feel your pain.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. We'll see if it's possible to surface an option to toggle her font in a sensible way. If you want to disable it locally (or even make a mod!), all you need to do is comment out/remove line 68 in the wathgrithr.lua prefab file:

inst.components.talker.font = TALKINGFONT_WATHGRITHR

The only Issue I have with the rain, is it makes WX-78 unplayable. The parasol offers no protection from the rain. I managed to find a touch stone for pighides, but never found spiders for silk. My health was down to 20 before the rain stoped. I managed to find 1 gear in a tombleweed so I got my health back up only to have it start raining again and kill me.lol I never found a spider.

At the very least spring should never be the starting seasion.lol
