Every time i reinstall the game, i swap Q and E key

Most players don't swap and this is the first time I am hearing this.

It doesn't make much sense either way because most players adapt to most default settings and how many times does an average player reinstall the game?

Kinda related but not, but I wish that you could bind 2+ keys to the same action. I have side mouse buttons I would love to bind to my first inventory slot to quick swap between my weapon/cane, while still retaining wanting to be able to press "1" on the keyboard to also swap to the first slot so I don't need to undo muscle memory.

If you only use W for foward moments, Q and E to change directions, swap feel more like third person as pess Q let you rotate left and E let you rotate right.

 

Not swapping then the world rotate instead of you.

Are q and e not rotate left and right by default? I use them to rotate lol

I tend to rotate back to default north orientation tho because if you directing new players to base you want to be in the same orientation as them.

Hmm if you reinstall the game and use Q and E you ll know what is default. That why i add options "i dont remember" because lots of players changed it years ago and might forgot what default options look like.

Or you can go to beta, it often reset default when you change from live to beta. That way you know which option is default and which option you changed it to.

Q and E by default rotate the world to left and right.
Swap rotate the player left and right. they are opposite direction.

I always use Q and E to turn and I have never thought of swapping them. Q turns left and E turns right even if I opt in and out of the Beta.

Try it, and tell me if it make your game play feel better or worse? give it a good 10 mins adapt.

The only key i find utterly annoying is M for map, even though it makes sense from the key itself its uncomfortable for my hand to press often. Since i chnged my map to R my (dst) life became 3x simpler.

Ah, I see what you mean now. I adapted quickly to it, but it doesn't change much for me after years of playing.

I haven't rebound them, but I probably should. They trigger when typing console commands (mod issue?), and I rarely want to rotate the view at all.

for me I set map to Tab, and scoreboard to capslock

Take Half and Change Box are unbound by default and I make sure to bind them to Middle Mouse and T per new installation

I always put it on tab like in single player. Isn't like I will use the player board even in MP..

E is used for moving forward/up. It's the pro way. WASD is so 1990s

Great research OP.  You have made a very insightful thread.  Looks like Klei got made the keys to rotate the world intuitive for the average player.

I think Joesmoecoolstuff's key bindings are optimal.  Shift for swapping inventory 1, swap the bindings of keys f and space, c for inventory 2, r for inventory 3, z and x for inventory 4 and 5.  Tab for map.  L33t bindings.
