Unfortunately, I have to join the ranks here. I have duped and bioteched nicely, bought the DLC in the meantime, and now it doesn't want to anymore.

It's exactly the same as the dupes above me, including I did the suggested solutions, but sadly without success.

EDIT: In the DLC tab the new DLC has no (MB) size

For anyone running into this issue of not installing and showing no size on the DLC list - what finally worked for me (after verifying and restarting steam/desktop multiple times) was unchecking the dlc, restarting steam, then re-checking. Goodluck dupes!

Wow. Klei never ceases to amaze me. Even if it was a simple fix, the team got straight to work and solved the issue.

I know a bunch of major game developers who would take days to do it.

Amazing !!

Either the devs never reached space, or they’ve discovered a new exploit to bring ladder beds into the base. They should share that trick with the rest of us! Wonderful video, as always, and congrats on the release.

Change color in 2 minutes in editor - is this a new skin? Each new DLC is more sloppy than the other. The issue of optimization, which was promised to us three years ago, but for some reason was successfully forgotten, is still acute

Although low effort, I can see the addition of these recolors as nice to have thing for builds readability. Past the obvious things, optimization is often arduous, expensive, and only pays off in the long run. Spending a bit of time editing some skins or coding something easy that will provide value to players while you are also at work optimizing in the background is a worthy endeavor as it provides immediate value the player can pay for, which will in turn allow the game's development to receive further funding, some of which can be dedicated to optimization. If there is no prospect of selling us something at some point in the future, the game's development will stop and it is not like they could directly sell us optimizations. Can you imagine that? The "optimization DLC". No additional content. Just makes the game run smoother for 8$ or something. Impossible! Aside from how technically difficult such a code-base split would be, we expect optimizations to be delivered for free, yet they are not free to provide.

So yeah. Those reskins are easy, but it's not like those were sold to us in a 5$ cash-grabby bundle. They are a small part of a larger, fairly priced IMO, DLC, and even if some may understandably haggle over its value, as long as it doesn't get really bad, I'm just glad they keep coming because that implies continuous improvements.

Yep, same here. I see nothing wrong with the value-for-money Klei provides with ONI. In fact, I think it is excellent and far better than what many others do. But some people just have to complain, no matter what. And some people deeply believe that, of course, whatever issues they see are the most important ones in the world.

On STEAM, for many games the complainers have gotten so bad that you have to set a lot of people on ignore for their self-centered, unfair and often outright wrong complaints before the forum there becomes usable. I also have seen similar patterns several times now with some men stalking and harassing female streamers and content creators in online forums.

There are quality skins in the DLC as well. You are just posting several easy copy-pastes, but there is nothing outrageous with those - each update has some more boring, filler skins and this update is no different. I just find it great that easy recolors are used for something that can improve gameplay and circuit visibility - that will be much more helpful than 20 new socks or gloves with minimal difference of shades

The shorts are super cute and provide an endless source of amusing dupe emotions! I'm not sure if this was intentional, but the sad Stinky at the beginning of the short is like one of those optical illusions that are valid even upside-down

just a few. And not as stated in the update. I think this is a very reasonable complaint, because they did not try so hard that they did not even match the colors to the overall background of the game.

They have been feeding us disgusting skins for 3 (3 Karl!) years and have hardly advanced a millimeter in terms of optimization, while the quality of DLCs is getting worse and worse. I did not criticize them for disgusting skins in the first DLC, because it was clear that the studio needed to be fed with money. After the first DLC, they said that they would focus on optimization. And we got the second DLC with disgusting skins. Still no significant actions with optimization. And now we get the third DLC without the slightest progress towards optimization. Conclusion - the developers took the position of squeezing everything they can out of the game before they lose the gaming audience. That's why I wrote about it here.

3? Skins were introduced exactly 2 years ago on update 535720 "Hot Shots".

As for optimisations, they can work for certain builds but not every build. It depends on CPU, GPU, OS and even then not everyone will see an improvement

The November patch notes contain the following:

Spoiler

Performance

  • Duplicants now prioritize finding new errands after they finish the previous one. On late-game saves this means they don't stand around for as long between tasks.
  • Reworked Chore Precondition system to allow a limited set of preconditions to be evaluated in a multi-threaded context.
  • Improved performance of pathfinding where lock contention was the limiting factor.
  • Improved performance of NavGrid Updates and reduced memory allocations.
  • UpdateOffset tracker now runs in parallel where possible.
  • Fixed performance issue where the "See All" colony diagnostics screen was still updating data and graphs while closed.

The thing with optimization is that, unless you let go of something you'd rather not, you are bound to get diminishing returns. Whatever you want to compute, it always has some fundamental irreducible complexity you can't go bellow. I understand that this reality may be frustrating depending on what hardware you got and how (un)easy it is for one to get better hardware but, at some point, no amount of doable performance improvement will help you.
