What is the most useless perk/upside about your character?

Recommended Posts

Name multiple characters for all I care. I'm hoping as many people on the forums participate as possible.

Don't include downsides. I'll check off each character listed

    Wilson
    Willow
    Wolfgang
    Wendy
    WX-78
    Wickerbottom
    Woodie
    Wes
    Maxwell
    Wigfrid
    Webber
    Wormwood
    Winona
    Wortox
    Wurt
    Walter
    Warly
    Wanda
    Wonkey

for WX, definetly the sanity circuits. out of all the circuits, i haven't found a single situation where i've needed one of them, even the less "meta" circuits have found more use from me than the processing circuits. the fact that only the first circuit actually gives you a sanity bonus is really stupid (actually, not sure about this one, but my point still stands)

wortox eating souls....i know normal food is halfed for wortox and i know what your thinkin that im crazy to say this but....wortox realy dont need to eat souls, there plenty of food, get on the world and walk about, killing random pigs and spiders and make yourself meatystews, or make a fish farm with trawlers net, and use the souls of ocean fish to teleport instead, souls are an emergency food if anything else, but with the experince i had with wortox i realy dont have to eat souls that much, but there plenty out there that seem to think souls are the only good food for wortox, so i guess it works for "pointless upsides" of some sort

Wormwood - “Bee kind” by far the worst skill with honorable mention of the Berries bushes crafting.

Wurt - “Swamp Pathfinder”

Warly - “Seasoning Salt” sorry I’m a Chili powder/volt goat jelly enjoyer.

Wigfrid - “Fireproof Falsetto” like of course there’s so many fire damage in the game.

Wonkey - “The running speed” have to spend like 2 seconds in straight line just for a minor speed boost? Nah bro this character is the anti-become monkey meme

I don’t think bees following wormwood around while he’s at max bloom is very useful. They do the pollination animation but it doesn’t actually do anything it’s purely a visual useless thing

This is actually a downside, it reduces my sanity IRL

For Webber, sleeping in spider dens. When would you ever sleep in a spider den when you can easily make an actual tent back in your proper base? (You're playing Webber getting the silk for it won't be hard)

<-- wickerbottom player

as much as I try and try and try, i cannot find a solid confident use for overcoming arachnophobia. Every other tome has its niche use, even pyrotechnics is nice. but overcoming arachnophobia is too slow to use in the moment and i would rather just do something else if i'm anticipating an attack from hounds or similar

you can slow AG down to make it get staggered for more time since it counts amount of time spent in charge instead of distance that it went through iirc and you can slow CK's claws and FW's woven shadows down

they last 120 seconds DX its not totally bereft of usage in this way but it just isnt convenient or solid at all

Honestly for me? It’s Winona’s upside for faster crafting, the downside of this is so heavily impactful that it makes me hate the upsides existence altogether.

Only people who stand in one place prototyping everything ahead of time will enjoy faster crafting, but for anyone else… those moment to moment spears, axes/pickaxes you have to craft are going to eventually start to add up.

I was really hoping Klei would lessen or straight up remove this downside when Winona got her skill tree, but that doesn’t appear to be happening.

So the faster craft thing is ONLY ever useful if your actually a base builder or something needing to prototype a bunch of cutstone or wooden planks or whatever.

For Warly, probably the fact that you can make salt crystals into seasoning salt to increase food health values by 25%. That takes a pierogi from 40 HP to 50 and doesn't affect jellybeans. It's really not that big of a deal, and since salt can be used to make salt boxes or to increase freshness by up to 50%, you're just wasting it if you use it for a meager extra 10 HP or so.

I'm not going to count this.

Wilson's torch tree is obvious as the other Wilson person above already mentioned.

And then for me an upsite that has actually no use for me at all is Maxwell's passive sanity gain, even though I know it's less in DST. But it basically leads to me never being insane when playing as Maxwell unless doing everything possible to cause insanity by purpose.

I consider this a DOWNSIDE, honestly. I know you said not naming downsides, but I think I am allowed to /call/ it a downside for /me/ since it is actually a perk.

But I got so USED to no insanity with Maxwell, that I took this and turned it into an extreme for my modded Maxwell by making him experience sanity loss quite often while at the same time having an insane amount of sanity, so basically he's constantly sane but not sane at the same time. (this was basically meant to express what I consider this "perk". I would rather not have to FORCE insanity by eating tons of green caps or using up codex umbra just for farming nightmare fuel FOR codex umbra and other shadow magic stuff. So this "perk" to me is so useless that I established it as a (mostly cosmetical) downside for my own Maxwell version.)

The entire weregoose tree besides the first perk

Being able to dodge hits would be more impactful if the goose had any way of interacting with things to warrant it. Otherwise the goose's movement speed outpaces any threat you're going to come across anyway. Wetness protection isn't good because you're probably going to plan out your goose runs to just not be while it's raining anyways. And the flying mechanic is... yikes.

Winona knows the names of Wagstaff's tools. It's not 100% useless, but it's only useful before you memorize the names anyways.

The turf-raiser helm buffs Maxwell's shadow minions. In case you needed to shred up the area while fighting something?

Winona's ability to avoid an attack by Charlie in the darkness once. There are some niche situations where it is helpful (maybe moving heavy objects at night without a head slot light source), but for the most part has very little impact in terms of gameplay. Any character can briefly equip/unequip a torch for a very similar effect.
