Giants that hunt you on the seas and in the caves.

Recommended Posts

Would anyone else like to see some giants added that announce their arrival and spawn around the player when on a boat or in the caves kind of like Deerclops? I especially think a giant hunting you in the caves would be really terrifying and effective.

Any ideas on what kind of giants they might be?

If you're in the caves when Deerclops is going to spawn in Uncompromising Mode he just falls through the ceiling lol. Adding more giants that hunt you could be fun, but I think ones that you choose to fight are better. The ones that hunt you are limited in how strong they can be since it'd be quite BS if for example Bee Queen just spawned on you out of nowhere, and if you want to fight them but it isn't time yet there's nothing you can do about it. They serve more as an initial shock for new players, which quickly gets overcome with experience.

ok this sounds like an even worse idea nor is it probably possible but like it could be cool maybe

Iron Hulk for the Caves, perhaps? The boss is really fun in Hamlet, and having each body part roam an area would make sense, as they awaken with a lightning bolt, which don't exist in the Caves.

I think that a Pugalisk would be a better "stalker", as the hulk pieces are quite dead until you mine it.

The bosses that spawn on you become roaming bosses, although Deerclops despawns when it becomes Spring or he smashes enough stuff, and DST removed DFly spawning on you, so it's really only Bearger that roams around. He doesn't roam too much either since his AI disables when there's no players near him.

A roaming boss could be cool if they actually roamed instead of just staying put when players aren't nearby. Not sure how feasible that is.

Some seasons in the caves or at sea (the sea and the caves don't really have big interactions than the surface/land with the season) will be the best cherry on top to create new giants for the players, I don't know if the servers could hold though.

Maybe a roaming terraforming raid boss?
The closest thing i could think of would be a spiderqueen.

A boss that just roams around in the game world (not hunting the player, but doing his own thing) every few days and changes/corrupts/implants/removes/creates new things that are in his vicinity over a long period of time for a set time (meaning the world can heal if the boss is not there anymore), almost like the current rifts, but its a moving entity rather than a stationary one (meaning that it can both migrate closer and away from the player, specially if players decide to "help" him move).

Defeating him would give the players some part of the boss alongside the regular loot stuff that would allow them to perform the terraforming manually , letting them create a controlled area where they can access the new resources that come from the new environment.

This would be a massive amount of work (not the boss itself, but the changes it can bring to the world and creatures) to make but i just thought it would be a cool way of adding a dynamic element to the game which could spice up playthroughs and make them differ from each other a bit more.

Maybe even an ocean turtle boss with his own mini biome full of barnacles and kelp and other bushes on its back that roams in the ocean?
submerging during dusk and night and re emerging during day in another random part of the ocean.

I wish there were more threats that came to you, the player.

I noticed they all kinda disappeared, lately.
Dfly was made into a stationary raid boss and was replaced with Antlion which... sorta counts? I guess? Not really.

I want more bosses like the seasonal giants, more threats that approached the players. The novelty of going to the raid bosses has died off for me.

They can be more unique, like SW's Tiger Shark! She's an awesome example of a boss that actively lives outside of player interaction! You can find her in any season hunting and exploring the world, and is even neutral outside of defending her kittens.

Bosses like that, that explore and do things. Like Bearger, too. Those're fun. Maybe have more sorta like the existing raid bosses but instead are territorial, and explore their reign without needing to be forcibly activated. (Klaus sack. Beequeen hive. Toads mushroom. They all feel really game-y.)

Although, all in all, I'd also like more threats outside of bosses in general.

giant/mutated puffin for sea

some sort of tentacle giant for caves

Would be fun finally seeing who all those tentacles belong to!
though i doubt the tentacle one can really move that much, unless you count it reaching up to the surface as movement

Makes me want a giant squid/octopus that hunts you at sea like a kraken or something. Bunch of tentacles grabbing your boat etc.

Water version of Pugalisk would also be pretty sick. Giant Sea Serpent

I want a boss like ds dragon fly that just follows you without attacking you, occasionally doing annoying things (Like burning random stuff in dragon fly's case) so you would want to fight it. It could be an ocean boss who eats fish, and trys to play with your boat like a toy without directly hurting it.

Agreed, it would be so funny. I want them to look really ferocious and scary, too, as a juxtaposition to their unharmful nature.

Also i don't think they would make raid bosses hunt you since that would be kinda dumb, probably seasonal or mini boss level.

Maybe a creature like a leviathen from subnautica that you want to try and avoid and can plan to do so, but if it finds you, you better be prepared.  It could be a mini boss that wanders the laborynth or ruins maybe.

Could even drop loots that can be used for sailing, for example a better oar or some other drop that can be used to make a faster sail...

Malb doesn't follow you, doesn't do annoying things (other than eat fish I guess), and does attack you.

We have Varglets.

Now I want Alpha Worm, who drops Mysterious Plant Sprout

The sprouts require fertilization and disappear/die completely just like moggles when withering.

(so that it's not too overpowered cuz it emits light and can refill light source).

It does follow when you fish, and it does annoying things like push your boat away and constantly de-aggro when you want to fight it.

No that is when you fight it, and it doesn't really deaggro it has a phase where it stands back and launches waves at you. You need to sail over to it or hit it to prevent it.

Having a special depth worm dropping a special seed is really cool.

Tbh though the skeleton completly outclasses it, it would need some other unique quirk, maybe you grow a domesticated depths worm who hangs around the spot you planted it?
