are there any worthwhile items from the new ocean updates?

Recommended Posts

hello everyone! my question is the name of the thread!

I've been gone for a while, but I've come back to the game for a little bit

I left when celestial champion was added(and I don't know what he does or gives or what happens) so are there any good items from like doing that stuff with the lunar champion?

okay. thank you!

My favorite thing that was added as part of the Ocean is the secret playable character you can unlock. But not everyone “likes” that character so you’ll get mixed responses.

Also Dock Tiles & Palm Trees. <3

Moon Quay island can give you plantable reeds and banana bushes (basically the best crockpot foods in the game), along with the ability to build docks over shallow water. Not that easy to find, but very, very good.

Celestial champ drops the enlightened crown which is a tam o shanter that gives you light and damage boost when ur sanity is above a certain level. It's not that good tbh, I rarely use it ever.

You can decon the crown to get 5 enlightened shards which is an infinite lightbulb for mushlights/glowcaps so that is good for cave bases.

Crab king drops the strident trident which allows u to fish farm a billion ocean fish, look it up on youtube.

The most useful thing from celestial champ quests is definitely infinite light on surface

Waterlogged trees for the win

This essentially. Summer protection from overheating and wildfires. combine with docks to make a new island/ocean base. Really cool! (granted you have to be near land to chop down trees but yknow, details details. Wish we got the ability to create shallow water tiles to replace land. Oh boy that'd be awesome.

Like many have said: Moon Quay's docs, banana bushes and replantble reeds (if you're playing as a character that actually needs reeds for something)

What I'd add: Salt Boxes: they make your non-cooked, cookable ingredients spoil 4x slower

Because he was designed to be a character to avoid. That's why he's a curse.

woah! plantable banana bushes?! that basically means you can make a bunch of banana pops! and the docks seem like they might be useful

salt boxes were in the game when I was playing it and they are pretty good if you can be bothered to go mine the salt (which I can)

thank you for the info everyone!

It is good, but it requires you to kill C r a b  K i n g  first.

It's a critter that immediately digs into the ground after hammering a Shell Bell.

I mean, that's not that bad. it used to be a lot worse when you had to sail for ages just to actually find him

like there was this one time where I ended sailing for an entire 20 days and after I had just got fed up, they released the update with the thingie that lets you locate him and when I used it, TURNS OUT HE WAS LIVING RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO MY BASE!

killing just requires a lot of ice staffs. it's not hard, just boring

Depends on WHO your playing as TBH.. Wonkey would be considered as a BUFF if you were originally playing as Wes, or even Maxwell (due to low HP) Wonkey has his/her own stats.

How? If you are wonkey you have less tools to defend yourself as maxwell.

Way better, there were two banana recipes added with the Terraria crossover iirc, both have 15 day spoil times, quick eating animations and easy recipes, one being a sanity food and the other one healing 30 health. They're basically THE late game healing food, since bananas grow even in winter.

To be fair, Wonkey being a buff for Wes players is more a testiment to how bad Wes is rather than how good Wonkey is.

And quite frankly, if players wanted to be someone stronger than Wes, they'd just not play Wes in the first place.

If you are planning to explore the ocean content make sure to pick woodie.

Been playing woodie recently and his weregoose form makes exploring and interacting with the ocean really fun.

Woodie synergizes really well with ocean content, he can rush lunar for glass cutters (lunar dark sword), can farm monster meat in large amounts by killing cookie cutters in the salt biome this allows you to rapidly stockpile kitschy idols (idols no longer spoil which is the best). Moose form is fantastic if you plan to explore moon quay island for killing the monkeys with his AoE charge. Goose is great to escape your boat if you are raided by monkeys on the sea and arnt prepared to fight them.

Woodie is by far the best ocean character we have atm.

Seedshells from sea weeds can be used to kill woven shadows instead of using a weather pain during AF fight if you so wish.

That’s your opinion, but my Opinion is that on a Character Tier List- Wonkey sits above Wes. It’s Fun to have a Playable Character that isn’t just paid DLC and requires you to actually DO SOMETHING in the Game World.

It’s fitting to the franchise to have that.

DS Single Player: Unlock Wes by reaching Chapter 3 of Story Mode & freeing him from an Invisible Maze full of Clockworks, Maxwell- Unlock Him by completing the entire Story Campaign & choosing to sacrifice your current playable character to become him. (Sounds a bit like Wonkey huh?)

But Wait We’re not done!

Reign of Giants: Webber Unlock him by finding his little trinket and burying it into a dug up grave during spring so lightning strikes it.

Shipwrecked: Wilbur unlock him by first finding his crown, and returning it to Him, Woodlegs unlock Him by finding 4 different Keys to open his cage & free him.

Hamlet: Unlock Wilba by making it to her Kingdom, talking to her people learning of a Wombat boss, Defeating said Wombat, returning the crown the Wombat Drops to Wilba.

DST Wonkey: Unlock Him/Her by sailing out to sea, getting attacked by Pirates, Kill said Pirates (at least 10) Obtain cursed Trinkets, Become Wonkey, THEN figure out how to “Remove” the becoming of Wonkey.

Once you do All that- Wonkey Unlocks in your Curio Cabinet and can be customized with Clothing same as any other playable character.

UNFORTUNATELY- Wonkey doesn’t STAY unlocked once you unlock them.. which sucks, cause I’d legit enjoy starting worlds as Them.

yeah, Woodie is great at finding Moon Quay island, though instead of picking him, I'd just do a switch midgame and explore around. lunar island is easy enough to find as it is anyway, and from that point onward, you can easily make a celestial portal.

fair point on the weremoose vs monkeys however, it should be one area where that form shines... though you can just set the huts on fire and deal with the monkeys easily.

An infinite durability Tam o'Shanter, Miner's Hat, and damage boost all in one is very good, yes. Arguably the best hat in the game. But the light & damage effect is sanity based, so how good it is depends on your character. It sucks on Wes, turns off so quick.

You can cheese him if you just want the rewards and hate the fight.
