Mass farming logs

Recommended Posts

So glass axes, Wolfgang, and honey spice are great.  So is the old taking deerclops on a walk...

But I noticed that taking Bearger on a rampage doesn't work anymore...
idk how long ago that was changed, its been a while since I played this actively...

What is the best way to mass farm logs for megabasing these days?

Yeah i just used bearger and it still works the same as ever.

the best bang for ur buck is most likely a field of palmcone trees grown with silviculture and then felled by Bearger. No treeguards and extra wood. Just need to accumulate those saplings first.

Bearger takes too long to spawn for my liking, usually have celestial portal made before first winter ends, switch to wurt for merms and clever disguises, prefer using them for trees and marble scrubs over bearger (hes a wee bit messy and clumsey) , thats just me tho :wilson_vforvictory:

I've found that you need honey food for bearger to stay aggroed on you. Jellybeans work too. Also nice to have panflute/icestaff when tree farming with bearger so when he spawns treegard u can use the flute and aggro the treegards with the icestaff.

The best method to farm logs is plant a buch of pinecone, use wicker's applied silviculture, then run bearger through.

I've noticed something when using Bearger to farm logs and haven't sure if it was always this way or if it changed, or even if it was only happening for me. But basically I only get logs from his 1) swipe attack or 2) charge attack. I don't get any logs when he's just following me at normal speed. Curious if this is known?

Okay just did it again and it worked - I must have missed something when I did it in game.  It was autumn and he did the charge so idk what...

What might effect tree drops?  Does the type of soil matter?  Time of year?  They were stage 3 trees b/c wicker books so it shouldn't have been that...

You sure it still works?  I had Bearger charge through a field of trees and got nothing but logs - no living logs, no birchnuts - and much fewer logs than I think I should have.

Maybe I did something wrong.  I'll try it again.

You need to have him swipe at trees or ground pound. His physical hitbox destroying trees hasnt dropped any loot since 2016/2017.

Luckily his physical hit box isnt even what makes him a great farmer, never has, it's his swipe, charge and ground pound that are the real log farming abilities.

Well his ground pound has a leading charge that should level trees very quickly preserving all drops - and I just went back and tested and it worked.  idk what I did wrong in the game as his charge speed is hard to mistake for his walking speed lol

I guess if it happens again I'll try to capture what may effected it, it might be some kind of bug.

He has two different walking speeds. The faster one from being aggro'd still doesn't drop logs. The charge (run) is even faster and, IIRC, is always followed by a ground pound when he catches up to you.

Bearger is king. Sometimes during summers I plant a mini forest densely packed (30 or so pinecones) close to my base. If I am close by the base and I feel a Antlion earthquake starting just run over to my mini forrest and the earthquakes make for some easy logs.

he's not dropping logs anymore(for about 1 year or so I think) when walking over trees, but he's still clearly number 1 to me. You need to only use the charge for log chopping, so kite the 3 attacks then run through your lines of trees. Use magi+cane so he does the charge for as long as possible; with blooming wormwood and sped up WX you can reach his charging cap without him catching up to you.

What happens if he hits the charge cap?  Will he just pound, or stop and walk?

Good idea for summer logs if someone is prolly base sitting anyway.

Haha yeah , I'm usually semi base sitting and doing food crafting so I think that's how I came up with . But it's decent for a little log supplementation during summer.  I usually don't bother with Antlion until year 2 or 3 if at all.
