There has been some recent discussion regarding scaling in the game on the beta forums. Figured I would ask here since at least for me the biggest pain for a pure solo player is defeated the Ancient Fuelweaver. So, just gathering some data on if you have or have not defeated the Ancient Fuelweaver at all, alone, or with others.

Leave your thoughts and thanks for responding to the poll. :wilson_love:
Edit: Added 5th question if you think FW should be scaled to player count.

The thing about scaling any boss in DST that only a few of them are pretty hard to defeat in solo (like AF, CC or a DFly) and VERY easy to defeat with party of 3+ players. No, seriously, every boss is so simple even if all of you are Wilsons or Weses, I tested this numerous times.

fight is much too unforgiving for solo play, 400 hp per shadow is way too much, especially since klei refuses to fix the targetting for fuelweaver when his shields up, leading to you constantly smacking his shield instead of woven shadows, making weather pains damn near required for anyone without with average combat skills. 10 or so more seconds between killing and shadow hands and him summoning more would also be nice for solo play

Yep. One of the suggestions I saw for FW scaling is to adjust the number of Woven Shadows Change in mechanic more so than change in just increasing or decreasing boss HP. That sort of scaling.

As mainly a console player, I honestly find FW fun to fight although extremely annoying mainly due to how Weather Panes are used on controller. The only thing I want is to make Weather Panes easier to use on controller. When playing solo it is such a pain to have target locking and the use gadget button forced on the same button as unlocking takes priority. You basically have to run up and give FW a hug in order to use Weather Panes on him during the fight.

A few solutions to the problem stated above

  • Swap the use gadget button and attack button on the Weather Pane
  • Allow console players to rebind actions/buttons manually
  •  Swap the target unlocking button to another button  (I've personally always wanted this button to always be (A), (X) on PlayStation, as unless your locked on a gate the A button is almost never even an option to use)

I find this poll to be a bit misleading. In longer term worlds where people kill afw more frequently, they usually use a cheese (afw's weird pathfinding stuff). So it's possible that people using the cheese are being counted in the "yes, ive defeated afw multiple times solo".

And even without an actual cheese, winona's catapults make the fight significantly easier than doing it solo without any external assistance.

I find fuelweaver really fun, if a bit hectic. I like the fact I can focus on him not healing as it allows me to prioritize that over other things unlike crab king which semi forces you to kill his claws while he's healing to be semi efficient. I also like the unique attacks and dynamic about him being on if 2 bosses that can fought using the glass cutter to its full potential. He's honestly one of my favorite fights solo. He's honestly fair and fun once you get the rhythm and equipment.

I think the boss is fair regardless of player count, I'd even say that its abilities are rather underwhelming in the offensive part. It's simple to never get hit (usually shadow creatures make this part more complicated than the FW itself), what's difficult is its safety perks, hold the players, shield entirely and health regen from tiny minions, so the challenge of the fight is making sure the boss WILL die more than paying too much attention to yourself, a good, rather unique design for the game.

The thing is the boss depends a lot of little equipments and dealing with what's in your inventory is going to be a critical fragment of your success, despite I've done this fight more than I can keep counting it, there are still moments where my swaps between hand and body items start to disorganise themselves and then I have long seconds where I'm looking for something and cannot find it, THIS can lead to huge complications you'd really want avoid, if not for that, if you've got your equipment checklist ready, you're good to go. :)

I had not considered that. There is also the ease when defeating the FW the first time without the Thrubile and again with. Sadly updating the poll keeps all previous responses. So have to go with what we have.

I think afw is well designed as a solo fight.  Its very challenging because you have a lot of things to do, but very manageable provided you do the things.  Even if you make a mistake and it heals a lot you can still work it back down.  The fight I'd like to see revisited is b queen.

Personally it's my favorite solo fight in the game. It's fun and challenging. The only things I don't like about it are

1. Drops feel a bit underwhelming

2. DST naturally has finicky combat which makes the fight a bit wonky sometimes, depending on how you're doing it. There's just nothing very engaging about right clicking to swap to a nightmare amulet and swap back again and again, for example. Also the targeting/hitting for the shadow hands (whatever gives fw the shield) is SUPER annoying. Idk if it's the same for anyone else, but I swear I will hit one but nothing will happen, and I won't notice until 10 seconds later that I didn't hit one of them.

my only problem with fuelweaver is his bone helm, it only gives 70% protection and is useless if you dont use advanced controls (at the point that i defeated fuelweaver, i already have an lazy deserter, so i can farm nightmare fuel without bone helm).

i wish in some future QoL klei will change the bone helm in a way that dont attack nightmare creatures if you press F (you would need control+F), and adding a way to open chests, icebox, et cetera without the fear to missclick and attack an nightmare creature.

I feel this way so many times with Bees as a Wormwood. They swarm me while I am doing my business and accidentally attack them all the time when trying to open chests. I like the suggestion.
