What are your unpopular opinions about DST or forums?

The problem Klei is largely running into now is that they take in a little “too much” fan feedback- I try to remain reasonable & find a higher understanding.. But When DS, DS Shipwrecked, and DS Hamlet were added to Xbox all of the “feedback & Work in Progress” process was already over so for example: if people did not like Flu Season or the Aporkalypse or Pangolden sucking up pond water & pooping gold- it was too late to change those things because they’re already part of the product that shipped.

That creative control over survivor reworks and updates should mostly be left to Klei. They have a much Broder picture of where the game is headed then our limited window as we see it. We cant take into account future additions to the game. Our feedback should be more about how that content could be exploited or about creative ideas for fun additions to the game.

And I'm usually posting about how I hate nerfs to friend or foe. The moon quay is the perfect example to what I'm speaking about. If we step back a little and let them put out content, we might really like it. And yes horror versions should absolutely still be apart of this game. It fits DST perfectly imo

well, more of a confession than an opinon ig. im not exactly sure how unpopular it is in whether people agree with it, just that not a lot of people talk about it.

dst: modded servers should be more popular, just as long as it doesnt include 'qol' mods that make them far too easy. vanilla servers should stick to a singular base and leader to keep the game engaging enough. seasons should be shorter in general, like maybe even half as long. spring start chance should be a thing. wolfgang might actually be C or B- tier, because combat speed isnt everything if you have a consistent enough strat. in normal circumstances fighting bosses only take like 5% the time on average in a pub if you're just doing general things and sticking around. if you designate them to the task of fighting specifically, then yea that's where he shines but in general it's just a wilson who fights faster.
forum: i get excited to open the forums sometimes because of the possibility of drama... and observing what knowledge level the community has about the game.

Don't Starve was never an uncompromising survival game and it never will be

I disagree strongly. There are old versions of Don't Starve that are very uncompromising. The one I think is most uncompromising was the Insanity! update. Here are some things that make it uncompromising: you can have at least 5 nightmares at once (possibly more I haven't tested), there are no animation cancelling attacks so it makes them harder to kite, Crawling Horrors had 800 health and did 40 damage, Terror Beaks had 300 health but did 80 damage. On top of this, there was no keybind to force attack, so you had to click every enemy. Terror beaks were also almost unkitable, as sometimes they would not teleport when hit and attack you right back instantly. Aside from Wolfgang with 200, characters only had 100 health (Wes having 75 at the time), and these attacks would eat through armor. You could lose 80% of your health in one unarmored hit. Sanity filter was also more difficult to play with. The original coloring was much darker and made it nearly impossible to see when in swamp or forest. There were no mushrooms to regain sanity, most foods wouldn't either, or if they did they wouldn't give very much. Flowers were very finite in resource and there were no garlands, best option for sanity was a tophat. Problem is, if you are already insane it is quite hard to fight so many nightmares long enough to regain enough sanity from a tophat. Nightmare creatures would make you go insane quite quickly because of their sanity aura. So on top of this there was also only 2 options to revive, otherwise you lose your world forever. Life giving amulet which you would have to be wearing at the time of death, and meat effigy. Meat effigy requires beard hair which there are two ways to get, as Wilson or by killing beardlings. While killing beardlings is pheasable, with how dangerous insanity was, and only the chance to get a beard hair from a beardling, and needing four, you could very much die while gathering the amount you need for an effigy. Also at this time, characters did not have the strongest upsides. WX simply didn't get penalty from food, Wolfgang had 1.5x damage, Wendy was visited by a weak version of Abigail every few days, Willow with fire damage immunity, and Wilson with his beard, and Wes with lower stats, damage, and increased hunger drain. This stage of the game was what I would consider the most uncompromising. This isn't even all of the stuff, but yes Don't Starve was uncompromising at one point. Get attacked by herds of hounds and deal with super high health nightmares with the high risk of losing your world, that is uncompromising. This was stage in the game where devs would not cater so much to those who struggled with survival.

Do you have any opinions that are unpopular or even hated among DST fanbase?

That Ocean content needs a break. They have been focused on fleshing it out since 2019, but with how long its taking I don't think anyone would mind 2-3 land / caves updates with new biomes or big changed features, then getting back to Ocean content. I think that would shut everybody up where they could focus on that stuff while the Ocean is being worked on. Or maybe trade updates? One Ocean, one cave update, one Ocean, one land update. Ocean content is largely late game or resource intensive to get to. I also don't like pancake boats, they look silly. I want to experience new mobs and new resources that have use early game, that you can just walk to from the start instead of having to get science machine < think tank < boat, anchor, sail, paddle < find pearl < do pearl quest < get blueprint for the claw machine < find waterlogged < steal a seed, gather figs < plant the seed < make fertilizer < wait several seasons < yay now I have a tree.

Thought I'd put some info out there grass boats don't require science, driftwood paddles are quite fast, you can get the claw by simply putting kelp you find on the island on her hooks, the first message in a bottle you open gives you pearl's location unless you already found it, there are multiple resources and food types not accessible on the mainland, and normal boat equipment is made from very common resources used in base building. That being said I wouldn't mind some new biomes on the mainland.

I would not cooperate with someone who tries to designate themselves as "leader".

Then... don't? It's more for the learning player's sake. The co-operative aspects of the game being more organized is a plus and letting someone more experienced apply their knowledge for the base so people can observe and learn what tasks they should do. Playing with everyone in sovereignty isn't bad, but you might be dissatisfied with the lack of initiative in a multiplayer setting. The way I see it: What's the point in playing a server if you're not working together?

Lunar Champion is extremely out of spot in the game. Whole "final boss" theme was perfectly captured by Ancient Fuelweaver, it would be just better if "lunar plotline" was separate from it. He offers 0 impact to the world too, as unlike Ancient Fuelweaver who reset valuable ruins, only reason to kill champion is to farm crown shards, very... small and unimportant loot too unfitting for "final boss", considering how crown itself really isn't needed as neither sanity or light is problem THIS late in the game

But ruins are being reset by killing AG and AF, not only AG...

The Klei forums would be better if there were no reactions.

But-but that would cause an influx of people commenting "this", and "I agree" where as before simply reacting was enough.

I understand it's upsetting when people get laughed at, but I think I'd be prefer that over someone feeling the need to manually write out that they are laughing at me. Or worse, instead of one person disagreeing with me and getting ratio'd, have dozens of people telling me why my idea is bad. I try to converse with everyone who writes on my posts and that would get really tiring.

I think they just mixed up the names

I agree, however I still hope there will be final-ier boss in the future related to whatever created the constant.

It isn't cheating or cheesing if its in the game by design.

Cheesing is an exploit from unintentional game design. As for cheating, there's only arbitrary rules to the game unless you're talking about Klei/Steam's Terms of Service. Then, breaking those would be cheating. Idk if im confused about something or out of context but this is just a fact.

I love the power/mobility creep. And the focus on more flashy updates.
Go crazy with it.

If other characters/parts of the game feel lacking by comparison, too bad. That just means they need an update. Mods can cover gaps in playerbase desires in the meantime (if they can ever decide on what they want).
