Personally I'd hate to see lunar grimoire nerfed to a stationary AoE. I really enjoyed not having to restock on light bulbs in winter at the cost of being permanently insane, forgive me if that sounds OP.

I get that light isn't the issue, it's the full moon effects. But having the light effect get caught in the crossfire just doesn't sit right with me.

Unless they make this change require an activated archive, there's no reason to activate the archives if you don't plan to finish out the cc quest line (and activate moonstorms). Once you activate the moonstorms, the lunar book isn't even useful until after you kill celestial champ. It's not really a comparison. It's just logical reasoning and how the game progresses.

What are you talking about? The reason to activate the archives is for the recipes it gives. Just getting the Terra Firma is more than enough incentive. So is Ambrosia if you want to farm Thulecite without re-killing Fuelweaver. (since it is quite the investment and difficult as a solo player)

I think this could be fixed by making lux aeterna actually useful follow wicker around

If it followed Wickerbottom around then it would lose the secondary effect of growing plants in the caves/Lights out, and the fluff of opening a sinkhole when using it in the caves wouldn't make sense anymore.

If anything, slightly increasing the range so it lights up an entire base would be nice, but I like the Lux books as they are. They're basically the middle ground between star caller/moon caller, since they don't affect local temperature. Great for setting up lights for long boss fights  and for convenience around the base.

Glad to see KLei lending an ear to most circulated & agreed-upon community suggestions - as a Beta should be like. Gj and ty!

While now I for one am pretty satisfied with almost all of the new changes brought to Wicker's re-balance, I as well believe Lunar Grimoire is.. let's say problematic: like others have pointed out, random, knowledgeable but irresponsible players can "troll" the server by removing Iridescent Gems from Archives for personal use or otherwise. Granted, people could do the same thing without a Wicker, but now such behavior is incentivized. There are 2 direct ways to solve this: 1) either make the Archives-socketed Iridescent Gems un-removable - but this in turn will hamper a reasonable Wicker's progress towards Lunar Grimoire and further new Iridescent Gems production; 2) change the Grimoire's recipe to something not requiring the Iridi Gems, even if Gem recipe is pretty lore-friendly. A 5-10x Moon Rock/Glass + 5x Moon Moth + 2 Papyrus might be a more appropriate recipe?! Anyway I reckon making Archives' socketed Iridi Gems stuck in their sockets could be a fine change overall, no matter Lunar Grimoire's recipe.

This is perfect!

The recipe even matches the book's cover.

The book resets the moon cycle, but it should just bring the full moon effect (light, pigs, etc), not changing it's cycle, imo.

This is a really good recipe, it has the core elements of a moonstaff without actually having to make one, it can be made without caves, it's expensive enough not to make on the first day (you can still do a ruins rush for it tho), but it's not so expensive that it's locked behind an event that would already bring you a reliable source of light. And most importantly, it wouldn't get in the way of the main quest by encouraging stealing the gems from the Archives

I think it's fine but it still bugs me people keep comparing a day 11 even with a event that takes over 6 hours to do.

wicker already has a book that grows crops so I don't think it'd be a big loss, in any case I was thinking it could create a stationary light and a smaller one that follows wicker around

What do you mean? I really didn't understand lol

I suggest that Lux Aeterna Redux be a longer lasting but stationary version and Lux Aeterna which has a shorter duration be the one that follows Wickerbottom.

People keep saying the moon caller which can be done as early as day 11 takes around as much time as the moon storm event which is time gates to summer at the earliest.

Oh sure, it's not even close, the king crab alone is already a huge resource check, it's very unlikely that anyone will be able to kill him before the first year, even if we already started the game with Pearl's pearl in inventory

It bugs me that they even compare the moon storm (a dangerous event that slows you down, turns sanity into lunacy and spawn more dangerous variants of mobs) with the completely safe full moon summoned by Lunar Grimoire.

But isn't it just at a small random place at the map? I wouldn't really say dangerous but different, lunacy is basically a sanity aura as gestalts are rarely a problem. The thunderstorm slow is a problem tho, but desert goggles are an option I guess

I haven't tested this beta, but got 2 questions:
-Can Willow use the fire pen?
-Does Webber go faster over Wicker's cobweb?

If both are a no, plz they should be a yes.
(If Willow were to use the pen, she should be doing more damage than Wicker, cause, c'mon, I don't have to explain that!)

The moonstorm takes up a whole biome for quite a while and if it lands on your base it’s quite annoying. The only way to make it not land on your base is by living in the Oasis desert (unless they changed it). As someone who disables wildfires I couldn’t bear to base in the Oasis desert and sit through a sandstorm every year just to avoid the moonstorm.

Maxwell now uses 2.5x the sanity to read Wickerbottom’s books.

This is way too much, especially when Maxwell's sanity is low most of the time with his shadow puppets. It is nice to be able to get nightmare fuel, but this drain is absurd.

You should be glad he doesnt instantly spawn terrorbeaks and horrors as soon as his sanity drops 1 point lower than the required amount to cast the book lol.

he can get as many free reads at 0 sanity as he wants while only occasionally having to deal with the naturally spawned nightmares

Honestly I like it like that. Having Wickerbottom rely on the Lunar Island for getting maximum effect out of her books really solidifies the split between Maxwell's shadow magic and Wicker's lunar magic.

Wicker thrives on the Lunar Island, being able to cast freely and ignore the gestalts since she's immune to sleep now. Maxwell can get some of the benefits, but his natural sanity gain makes basing on the island tedious.

It's all good flavor and I can't wait to see how the lunar/shadow dichotomy gets played with in Maxwell's rework.

He still does not instantly spawn nightmares when reading at 0 sanity. I have tested it.

i imagine what they meant by fixed is the new increased cost for him.

Personally im fine with this arrangement. Its an interesting distinction like Augybear mentioned.
