I don't believe its named the Constant for remaining the same, as its never remained the same in all of its life. It'd be weird to name it in that perspective. What we do know is that survival is a constant, which makes more sense when you want to name the realm you're stuck constantly trying to survive in! (I'd put a link to the song here, but this is off-topic enough already. : P) Anyway I forget when the Constant was first named The Constant, but I DO know it's definitely after DST went out of beta, because I recall a good bit of time here on the forums where everybody just kinda thought of it/called it "The Don't Starve World"--and I didn't get here untli after DST went official, myself. I wanna say like earlyish 2018? Not sure. I always figured the name had something to do with how time passes oddly there, myself. Something about the world, the _dimension_, itself staying put as all kinds of weird time amounts happen to it, not the individual life forms IN it staying "constant". (And yes, the characters don't age, but clearly at least some animals do. Even if they die, they never really "die", if you know what I'm saying. I really like these takes! I think they work best combined; it forces you to fight for survival without a second to rest. Not even in death. Did we ever come to an agreement on what this meant? Is it that the Constant itself functions doesn't have a consistent passage of time? Its day/night cycle seems to operate normally, so not necessarily. Maybe it's about the relation between the Constant and the Real World? As in, at one moment, you could open a portal from the Constant and end up in 1910, but end up in a completely different time if you open another seconds later. This way, Wilson could be the first person trapped from the Constant's POV while also being one of the later victims from Earth's POV. It does say "in the Constant', though, so this might not be the case.
