Aeglefire
WASD-style boats means small self-powered boats, or fish, which you can sail on the ocean using the WASD keys on your keyboard, or with a joystick. You may or may not need to fight a boss for a self-powered boat blueprint.
Harrowick
The DST boats feel more like boats to me. (and they take into account multiple people)
Baark0
Would feel pretty jarring to go from the complex sailing of dst to simple wasd movements, plus then we just get shipwrecked. also you can use wasd to steer the boats in dst, just not like in shipwrecked
Another membe
I always thought about a boat structure that spawns a small, shipwrecked style boat nearby. The small boat would be tied with a rope to the main boat, and could only move as far as 1 screen away from it. It would, of course, be super weak, and break in a few hits, or if the main boat broke, but it's size and speed would be useful to mine salt without being bothered by cookie cutters too much, or collecting items that are a bit too far from your boat to reach. -Variant
I don't like SW/WASD style boats since... in 100% full honesty? It's like a reskin of walking! With attachments being like equipment. I love RoT/DST's boats! They're like... uh. Boats! They're like boats, and I love them. I've always loved that they felt like real boats. I love the swaying and drifting of them. It feels so nice, like being an actual captain. I like the effort I put into sailing. They're far less clunky post QOL fixes and I just... augh I love boating them. I've put so much time into them, I'm like a sea goddess! A siren, if you will.

ALCRD
You can already use WASD to steer the boat ingame.
ArubaroBeefalo
rich gameplay > simplistic braindead gameplay dst sailing is way funnier and rewarding in terms of good performance than sw, valheim or any other sailing experience i had with videogames

Cassielu
First, the DST ship mechanic is better and more fun, at least to me. Second, they can never exist together, having two different mechanics for the same purpose is absolutely sucks.
xDarkSoul18x
Since the game is not exclusive to being played multiplayer, I do think there should be some sort of crafts to help solo players. Managing your boat can get kind of tedious solo. Adding some of the shipwrecked boats would be amazing. It leaves the current boats in-game with all their perks like storage, cooking, conductors, followers, rams etc. but adds different options or aspects to single players. More content is more content.
