kind of silly but wendys rework is sort of a favorite in terms of nostalgia value, i got into dst in january 2020, so wendys rework was the first major update (not counting year of the carrat here). i was already predicting based on previous 2019 reworks and new characters that someone new would be coming around the first quarter, and i was so happy to be right. i was so happy and hyped seeing the video, and playing and everything. me and these kids i used to play dst with made an all wendy world that we messed around in for the full ingame year. it was a nice time :)

Another way to phrase the question is: "What update would you be most saddened by to see it removed?"

That's how I interpreted it, too. But the caves have changed a lot over many updates so I'm not sure if removing one of those updates would remove all of the caves.

My favorite update is the 'We Took Wildfires Out Back And Shot Them In The Head' Update, followed by Reap What You Sow, the March 2022 QoL Update, Forgotten Knowledge and, I guess, Turn of Tides? Hmmm. I feel Waterlogged deserves to be in there somewhere as well.

Kind of a "low hanging fruit" answer, but does the official DST launch count? It's when they added Maxwell so I could finally be my single player main without him being modded in. The only reason why I liked it better than Warly's rework was that there was more to the update than just the character.

Quality of life updates - like pause, craft ui and anything in the future. These updates make me play much more, especially pause as a solo player. My favorite updates for a reason, i don't think that in general most people would prefer these over any other big update but they are such a big game changer.

Caves release for DST/update - This made me play DST so much, before caves were added the game felt completely different and i preferred playing singleplayer DS. This was a turnaround point for me, i only used to play DST with a friend and after this was released i started playing solo worlds much more and switched to DST from DS.

Ancient Fuelweaver update - as you can see i really love caves and also this is the best option for obtaining lots of thulecite and gems, before this thulecite was only obtainable by duplicating it with deconstruction staff and construction amulet, i know about dust moths but they were added later and they aren't that good.

I feel like caves are still lacking compared to overworld and would love to see them get more updates, it would be great if there was as much content as overworld so that you could spend 80% of time in caves and 20% above if you wanted, currently its the other way around every time.

Turn of tides update - i always wanted sea content in DST, nothing more needs to be said.

Wanda release - i really like her not only because of high damage but mostly for the teleports, makes me less likely to reset bad worlds or almost never, this was quite a problem for me since i first needed to explore to make sure the world was good and i used to waste too much time and with Wanda everything is at the click of a button distance once you have enough watches.

celestial chapmions is honestly best dst boss that was added and probably will be best for long time(unless klei will add some even better boss)

not only he drops very unique to dst item as enligthment crown, but he also actually very balanced in terms of killing him in solo or team, it's not very necessary to kill him in co-op and will just take some more time(unlike fuelweaver that reaaaaally says you to get friends), and at the same time fight isn't way easier if you fight him not alone. Also i can't not mention how well made his animations are comperasing to literally anything in dst.
