Developer appreciation post

Recommended Posts

Having the ideas I've thrown around every once in a while (Particularly the things I've said about Wigfrid) actually make it into the game were amazing moments for me. It's not only that my ideas are acknowledged, but being able to see things I've said actually appear in game, whether because of what I said or shocking coincidence, are part of why I think of game design ideas so often and want to some day become some kind of game dev on my own. I have the Klei devs to thank for that.

That and they make REALLY good games. I mean, I don't really get ADDICTED addicted to games, but Hot Lava almost entirely consumed me & my attention when levels were coming out for it & during release. I've played DST worlds and ONI saves for thousands of days - To be able to make products so damn good that they justify that much time getting sunk into them, to manage to still be rewarding and enjoyable... That is actually incredible design, so they're really doing something right over there at the ol' Klei building. Buildings. Amalgamous blob of structure. While I may not agree with every change, addition or decision, they've still managed to outdo themselves on almost every other aspect, consecutively, for years.

My favorite member of the Klei Staff would have to be @ImDaMisterL though. He was a big part of why I went so heavily into writing, so I'm a little biased.

Err, none of these look like cosmic horror. Cosmic horror is not just spooky stuff in space.

Cosmic horror is mostly about how humans are ultimately insignificant in the grand scheme of things and the universe is home to things that are unfathomably more powerful and so alien that to merely glimpse them would drive us to madness because our mortal brains are in no way equipped to understand them.

Then Klei should make a new ip so we can get the cosmic horror we wanted from Return of Them. Something that can allow the devs freedom to do what they want that they merely hinted in the bog infection art in Griftlands

Spoiler

I wouldn't mind if Klei did a movie about the scientists of gravitas where their dna is being stolen little by little before Earth is destroyed.

oooor bring back some cool mutations (varglets, vargs and koalavargs...)and apply a simple filter in case some player has some kind of phobia and kink of playing with max zoom in to suffer with the details. Doesnt need to be like moonrock pengulls (that anyways you really need to zoom in to see the details...) but atleast something more fitting to the theme than the grotto biome (which i like) because saying that horror hounds or moonrock pengulls dont fit the game is a poor excuse to the level of "warbucks isnt interesting but here you have the exact same character without funny jokes but fresh gameplay (wheeler..)"

lately the game is a damn rainbow... even alter could have more details than being a giant blue lemon lacking textures in the sky

Sorry for off-topic posting, but how's that scary?

If I showed you a text full of made up terminology you think is real but understand, would you try to get something out of it anyway? Even after the search for any of it resulted in nothing? You probably would just give up eventually. Something has to mess with your brain first for you to bang your head against the wall like this. It can be spoopy, but it wouldn't be much different from regular horror. If by cosmic horror you meant focus on general insanity, then sure, no questions.

1. Same as being an ant in a world inhabited by giants that can step on and destroy your entire society without even realizing you exist.

2. Uh...

3. Best to end this here. This cosmic horror thing has been derailing the thread for far too long. I'd tell you to PM me instead, but I'm honestly not sure I'm terribly interested in discussion right now.

because is not about cheap jumpscared but existentialism (and the potential crisis some people might develop) the fear of the unknown and how little we are. Sometimes also includes some tentacles tho

read about Lovecraft books or watch films like event horizon for a more graphic example

@jan Mele because isnt about being scary but existencial anguish, something like "if we are smaller than a particle of dust in comparation to the cosmos and its mysteries why i even wake up to work?" which is transmitted in DS with "bug civilization was deleted by a unknown great thing" and how you discover that after killing a lot of them when you dicover their ruins, and to blow your mind with things like the finnale of 'The case Charles Dexter Ward"

I guess I misunderstood the term. Sorry for derailing the thread.

(though I still don't understand what's scary about insignificance)

The dev team is pretty awesome, ye. The communication is superb.

And Klei should’ve won that labor of love award years ago.

Well Re-Logic now has Terraria Labour of Love 2021 so my vote is for Klei to have DST Labour of Love 2022! Like half of the Terraria playerbase plays DST and vice-versa so if Terraria could pull off getting the award we can at least reach the nominations.
