[Poll / Suggestion] Should the Boat crafting materials recipe change be reverted?

I don't have any strong opinion about Boats Think tank change .. but the recipe itself however..

Old recipe for boat kits was 4 Boards and you got all 4 of them back once boat sunk.

Now its 16 logs and you only get 8 logs back once boat sinks. 

Which in my opinion is pretty bad.. but what do you think?

Yes, overall the changes made to Boat Kits, Wooden Oars, Driftwood Oards and Repair kits make seafaring much more convenient, with the exception of the crafting recipe change for the Boat Kits. 16 logs doesn't make too much thematic sense in the first place. Sorta requiring a science machine by proxy wouldn't be a hidrance at all- most craft a science machine to make a shovel in order to get a meaningful amount of logs in the first place. Boards fit the theme that boat fragments at sea drop boards as well and it's much easier to collect from wreckages, on top of players being able to hold more potential boats in one stack.

This is probably my only real issue. Boat Fragments are effectively worthless now that you can't use Boards to make either Boat Kits or Boat Patches.

If I’m being honest you won’t see the real consequences of this change until the update goes to Xbox/PlayStation. 
Because and I mean this with all due respect to my friends on Xbox Live: Most console gamers are pretty stupid, not saying they’re Stupid so to speak.. it’s just that, most of us need clear easy to understand and read information right in front of our faces to figure out what to do.

The Old Way Boats had been set up you had to build the Think Tank to even discover you could build a boat at all… which coincidentally: Also showed you the various boat upgrades you could access from this same structure, like Masts, Steering Wheels, Anchors, Tin Fishin Bin, Lightning Conductor, Deck Illuminator.

With the NEW way you have instant access to boats and oars (Yay I guess??) But I can bet you your going to see more Non-Upgraded boats then ever before at least when it comes to Xbox players.

The old way introduced players to the seafaring tab while also letting them know there’s more to craft from it.

If the Seafaring tab is unlocked from the start & certain items can be viewed but require a think tank to prototype, then maybe players will catch on.. but no promises so don’t hold me to that, I’ll get my friends together when the update comes to Xbox so I can observe how much easier/harder it is for them to figure out how to craft and upgrade a boat.

in pc it was rare to see an "upgraded boat" with masts and stuff in public servers (if you even saw boats at all)

with this change at least more cheap and non updgarded boats will touch the water

For most.. yeah that should be easy to catch onto, but for my best friend? I have this horrible feeling he is going to think all those Locks represent DLC content he needs to buy.

And no.. I’m not joking, I once spent 6 hours trying to explain 1 Smite god to my friend, But to be fair.. he’s usually into simple stuff like Shooters & Racing games, the only thing that concerns me with your image is how many people will actually learn how to open the rest of the seafaring stuff up, Boat Kits Requiring logs while debris on the ocean yields back planks, if boats could be built with logs or planks- or if planks could be hammered into logs: We wouldn’t end up with cases where people end up stranded on an island without a way to build another boat should something err “Unfortunate” happen to theirs.

With Shipwrecked pretty much each island guaranteed you would find enough resources to build some type of boat to get back out to sea with, Rather that boat was made of logs, bamboo or whatever else..

In DST “currently” there’s not many logs your going to find out in the waters unless Klei plans to allow you to use Driftwood Logs as if they counted as regular logs, not even hammering down crashed ship debris will yield back logs.

Ultimately: We have no idea why Klei made this change.. But we do know that every change they make This year is to prep for the bigger content they have planned for next year & beyond.

Instead of changing the current recipe, they should add a raft that functions the same as a boat but smaller and weaker. The recipe should be tweaked to 8 or less logs and it wouldn't require a science machine. This way you can still use the more costly boats (the 4 planks) for your upgrades while keeping the raft as something to use early game (for rushing lunar islands, or if you're Wurt, getting some bull kelp for the king). I'd like to see more boats in general anyways tbh.

Yup and the fact that stack of boards = 2 boats yet stack of logs = 1 boat.

It's inefficient and you don't get 100% of the materials back when boat break either.

Plus the boat sprite is clearly made out of boards too so using logs makes no sense unless yea it's this:

Board is better, it matches the look of the ship and the ship pieces better, but I hope they keep the parts of the ship that will only return half the material if it is destroyed.
