What Kitcoon did you get?

Wait, wait---you can name THESE, but not your _regular_ pet kittykits?

(stomps away in a huff)  HMPH!

Well, I guess you can kinda make your pet's headcanon name "official" with a sign...

...but I really wish you could just mouse over them and see it.

You can name them by buying a collar from the shrine

Really?  Huh, I guess I didn't look at the shrine stuff closely enough.  I kept trying to get away from base so things wouldn't burn down (it's the dead of summer in my game right now and it looks like it's gonna be a long'un), and then having to come back and get stuff.  : P

People just don’t seem to understand that not everyone plays the game on default settings, I’m hoping the 3 QoL updates & 3 Setting the Stage updates coming this year will allow us to have even more ways of playing beyond the default settings.

I mean Klei adds things like “Lights Out Mode” to the game for the sole reason that people will play the game in a different & unique way..

It blows my mind how some Forumites* go out of their way to discredit that when, if Klei did not want us experimenting with it: We wouldn’t have an option to choose it.

I hope they’ll update the Random Weather seasons to be truly Random.

Speaking of Random: The Kitcoon you get from the Mini game seems to be random, I got the little green one (ironically green is also my favorite color)

here is mine. Named after my cat which I sadly just lost a week ago. Now she can live on with me in here

Awww.  I can definitely relate; I've done the same in the Sims.  Usually I'm  just to give a fictional character whom I felt got a raw deal another shot in a new universe, but I _did_ once make my real-life cat as a "tribute"...

....two days before he actually died.  :(

Anyway, enough of that.  I'm'a wait until the next dog attack, then start exploring.  Probably the Cherry Forest first, as that's where I spent most of the last long summer.  I'll be interested to see if the game takes that as another birch forest to the point of having forest kitcoons show up there (after all, it does have regular catcoon dens already), or not.  If not, there's other interesting biomes nearby.

And yes, about the not playing the game on default settings!  I never joined in with that actual thread about it, but basically my feelings have always been:  If it's a legit non-modded option in the game (and doesn't require typing in codes), it's not cheating, just preferences.  I MIGHT say that brand new players should try vanilla first to get an idea of what the baseline _is_ so that they then know WHAT they might want to tweak and how, but tweaking in and of itself shouldn't be villainised.

Anyway, if I ever get a kitcoon I'll post it here.  Right now I'm having an odd glitch that makes me a bit leery to log back into the game, but hopefully that'll be fixed soon.

Okay, really dumb basic question here, guys, but...

...how do you actually physically FIND them?

I looked all over the official "Year of the Catcoon" thread, and this one, but there doesn't seem to anywhere be information about how you...START this process?  You can hire a Ticoon to help "if you can't find them on your own", but apparently the latter IS possible?  I...I just don't know how to start.  Are there tracks that look different from the suspicious dirt piles?  A sound when one is nearby?  A rustling?  I've been exploring like crazy in two worlds now and nothing.

I'm just worried this whole event is gonna go by and I won't find a single one.  :(

they hide behind like grass or trees, if you look closely to something, you can see a small and hard to see cat tail coming out of it, sometimes even behind flowers

Ooohhh!  Okay THAT'S the key beginning bit of information I was missing.  It's like if you're trying to, say, learn how to knit, and all you can find is tutorials that tell you how to do specific stitches.  It's like "Okay yeah, I'm sure that'll be great LATER, but _how do I physically arrange my hands around the needles_?"  : P

(this example may or may not be based off of my own real-life experience.)

to add to the above comments, you might hear some kitti's meow if you are close to them so, if you hear it, just pay attention to every tree, flower or boulder until you found a cat tail showing behind them but the quickest way is via ticoons as @UbiAnomaly said

I just found them all without the help of Ticoons in my world and It was pretty damn difficult.

They do make noises, but be sure to not have any other kit nearby, because those make noises too. If you don't see a tail, you can always hover your mouse over trees or flowers or whatever (if a kit hides behind a petrified tree you can barely even see it. On my world with friends we had to really focus after Ticoons lead us to it to even see it) and see if option to investigate appears.

I think I might've MAYBE already heard one of those sounds? but it happened when I was in the Cherry Forest, which has added a bunch more of its own creatures and effects since the last time I played. But I still think that weird skittery noise I heard might've been a kitcoon.  Unfortunately it was almost night so I had to stop and throw down a fire at that time.

Maybe I'll have more luck in Winona's world--it's less cluttered anyway.  : P

Yet another pc only option, I want a cute cat godammit

Are console players able to edit their save files? I remember I had seen a console player share their world files, but I'm not sure if they can also edit them.

If so then it might be doable.
