marioespinho
I started a BIG Terra Cluster and it turned out to be exactly what i thought it was. It feels i'm playing vanilla more than Spaced Out. I feel no need to find and fly to other planets anytime soon since i have everything i need on this cluster, so space feels kinda pointless until i want to go for "endgame" content. The Spaced Out Terra forces me to start exploring way sooner, since there are stuff i don't have home. So i have the need to resort to go back to early builds and structures more than once. I like Spaced Out Terra more, since i have to challenge myself more often, and have to adapt to the enviroment more than once. Big Terra feels "safer" since it's pretty much the same as i had before the DLC, with extra biomes. ZombieDupe
Prefer spaced out for most starts, but specifically not the Terra one because you only get some volcanoes and two awful cool steam vents. I don't like how small the planetoids are that you travel to, but the size of the starting one looks perfect to me. Not too cramped and you don't need duplicants to travel long distances. That does make certain things less useful, like transit tubes and jet suits, but I never really liked how slow they have been anyway, so those could do with some tweaking. The new big terra in the DLC is actually easier and more manageable than the base game Terra, which is nice to have for a starter planetoid. Sasza22
I`m yet to try the big terra but i never really used all the space available and never felt claustrophobic on the small planetoids so i guess i prefer the dlc cluster. But it might be fun to have everything in one place without having to manage 3 different colonies. I think both types have both strong and weak points. gnatsum
Prefer Terra cluster. I enjoy working with the geysers and the DLC cluster is too scripted with geyser number and type. I don't feel there is enough randomness. I might enjoy it more if they added a few more random geysers at the start. Electroely
I prefer the Spaced Out! style Terra cluster, personally. While I don't enjoy the heat from the Steam vents, I prefer it over the other starts because I don't have to deal with the Tundra's constantly-melting ice deposits seeping into my base or the Swamp's frequent tiny pools of polluted water. I also enjoy the availability of copper ore from 3 biomes as opposed to 2, and the presence of Thimble Reeds on the starting planetoid. I find it a relaxing experience to build a base in, and the radioactive asteroid being forest + ocean also makes it a pleasant experience to build in as opposed to the Forest Start's swamp + marsh radioactive asteroid. sakura_sk
@Electroely In the Spaced Out! style Terra cluster, you should also add the "headache free", not instantly boiling, teleporter asteroid that has no magma compare to the other two clusters (swamp and forest) Edit: Well.. Updates are fast.. (no more/minimum boiling starts) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/129313-terra-cluster-or-spaced-out-cluster/#findComment-1452967 Share on other sites
Tanmorik
so i tested it a bit with the big map now and i could easly say, i had more fun. But i have some suggestions for this start. The Map is currently a bit to big. I guess it would be ok if it is just 70% of the current size or even less. I didn't compare between the Spaced Out! start and the big map but it feels like a Planet sometimes(Or the base game). And the other suggestion would be to get rid of all the extra geysers. I really like it to build up my whole base on one big astroid, espacially because the game has so many artificial obstacles to overcome for managing many small Asteroids in the early and mid game. i really like to use the rockets like in the base game, but not only sending them and don't care anymore i would like to build little bases to extend my mainbase and after running out of materials on the home astreroid it would be nice to get them from other asteroids. Sorry for bad english, i am in fact a Potato. Technoincubus
I cannot imagine playing with small asteroids. They are empty, devoid of everything but two water gesyers. You dig to water and then beeline to mass solar arrays, then are forced to mess with rockets, deliver stuff from other planets and other ****. I hated Spaced Out small sasteroids and were very happy when they brought normal one back. Will never touch mini-start again. MiniDeathStar
I love the small moonlets! Mostly because I love transportation, and rockets are so, so cool. I've also found I enjoy colonising way more than carving out a huge rock to the point it takes ages to walk from the base to somewhere. So far I've found the spaced out terra moonlet much harder than the rest. Immediately you are in danger of heatpocalypse because you have two steam vents in your face, meaning you need to rush insulated tiles. You can't touch the marsh biomes until you get oxygen mask infrastructure, which is annoying to deal with... pumped gas needs to be filtered out or you get blobs of CO2 damaging the stations. The steam also needs a lot of processing before it becomes useful water. You have to wait until the vent is dormant or use atmosuits, you have to use a cooling loop, for which you need plastic, for which you also need atmosuits, it's all just very tedious. If they replaced the vents with the slush geysers, then terra becomes maybe the easiest start because of the algae and the gold amalgam (=> gold => oxylite), which makes rocket oxygen management much easier. I don't know. I'm currently playing on the forest moon and it's nice and relaxed without being boring. I'll probably try terra on max difficulty next as a challenge. If all the smaller Space Out starting asteroids make cool slush geysers a necessity then they need to be reworked. Heat management shouldn't depend on the presence of a borderline OP geyser, IMHO. MiniDeathStar
@goboking I mean, it's not as much management as the steam vents simply output an enormous amount of heat, as in literal millions of DTU/s, and spawn way too close to the base. I don't otherwise rely on the slush geysers for cooling. I even heat the polluted one because otherwise it murders my bristle berries.
