if there would be a new character added from sw or hamlet, who would it be?

this question has really confused me, seeing as wormwood came in the game from hamlet instead of wilba, or warly instead of wilbur or woodlegs.

I mean, Wilba is like the main face of hamlet and Woodlegs and Walani have SW exclusive items. The only other one's that they could have added would have been Wheeler (gross), Wagstaff (which I hope they still add), and Wilbur (I hope they add him too)

Warly was a perfect fit for the cooperative game. A chef is not difficult to adapt from a challenge character to a challenge character + team support buffer. While I think his implementation could've been better he's still a ton of fun.

But Wilbur and Woodlegs are pretty boring and would not translate well. Wilbur is just "mongey run slow then mongey run fast" and while I would like Woodlegs thematically since he's a sailing pirate and I love to sail in DST, he really doesn't fit. An ocean character is fine in Shipwrecked where the map is a ton of tiny islands most of it being a huge ocean that actually has stuff in it, you can get to in the first day, and you not only should but really need to go through the ocean to play the game. DST's ocean could technically be reached on the first day maybe, but if you're wanting a decent boat it'll be more like day 5-15 and if you're wanting a good boat it'll be more like day 17-50. But even if you do get on the ocean, there isn't much reason to. Unlike DS:SW where the ocean plays a huge and unavoidable role in gameplay, DST's ocean is pretty empty and pointless so unless you find the action of sailing itself enjoyable as I do there's no reason to be out there. But even then, what all would Woodlegs do? Be Winona but limited to only being able to put the structure on a boat? Even if he were to get entirely reworked to be about unrelated ocean-based perks that wouldn't really fit with DST's ocean.

I think DST's got all the characters from DSA that could be added in a cool & good way, except for Wagstaff who might be a bit overpowered.

WAG. STAFF.

Hes part of the main cast for goodness sake!

While yes, he would need a rework, and yes, 'Nona exists, but aside from  these 2 complications, there is no reason to not have him in the game!!

while i do see the winona comparison, i personally think he could play a huge role for her character, maybe he could add on to her inventions and boost their power? maybe like he could upgrade them, but winona would already need to have built them so wagstaff wouldnt become just "winona but better" and more of like a winona support, he could make the thumper and the teleporty thingamobob (i dont really play wagstaff). he could also make mini catapults that do half the dmg but fire a bit faster and winona could upgrade those too! well thats just me speaking but yknow. anyways have a good day/night everyone!

Walani- because I like Walani... she has a Surfboard and now that DST has an actual sailable ocean it just wouldn’t feel right never getting her.

To put it simply: if they can explain Warlys arrival into DST as his ship simply crashing ashore, then they can also explain that Walani went searching for him on her surfboard after he went missing.

who doesnt like walani? yeah she may just be a free boat in the original, but id love to see what they would do with her! maybe she can get sanity from being at sea, gets a big boost from seafood, brings in oil so that you could repair your boat like in sw, oh! she could also bring in the tigershark! i loved that boss so much to be honest, basically my 4th favorite boss design! its so simple!

I agree on the first part, but why would Wagstaff be overpowered?

On the contrary I think he'd need a strong re-balancing to not make him boring, and a telipad/thumper switch character.

For instance his whole "glasses" thing would need big changes so he is fun to play as in the long run, starting from the fryfocals (a personal fire-making weapon would not be okay in a multiplayer world)

Spoiler

I'd change the blast so instead of setting enemies and things on fire, it causes an ignition-less explosion that stuns smaller mobs in an AOE for 4 seconds, for example.

Or even his main glasses could use changes, like maybe being able to see further with the camera.

His helmet could also work for other players, offering an 85% defense and high durability at the con of restricted vision, but the rest of his glasses should not work for other players and cause them to see blurry.

The telipad would be interesting to have in DST, but I think the thumper has no place in DST IMHO (there are a lot more ways to farm trees faster in DST). I'd probably replace the thumper for new multiplayer oriented inventions.

I haven't really played him much in DSA so I'm not sure how powerful he would be. As it stands right now the best ways to gather trees I'm aware of are either playing characters specifically meant for lumberjacking (Maxwell, Woodie) or having the foresight to spending time setting up a Bearger forest before the second autumn rolls around, but that requires you to both plan ahead and be on at least the second year which takes quite some time. The Thumper only requires a gear to craft and I believe is much better at lumberjacking than Woodie and Maxwell are. It might not even require a Wagstaff to activate it, so you wouldn't even need to play as him to become the best lumberjack. He'd have that in addition to a Telipad/Telibrella.

But you say there's better ways to farm trees so maybe I'm just ignorant.

Him being a pick and swap character would be another problem. His nearsightedness downside has already been cause for debate, if you could just create his structures then change character nobody would actually play him. I agree that making his goggles more interesting would be a better focus for a potential rework, since that would make the character himself more fun to play instead of just making his structures better.

farm trees

Well there's bearger which on dst you can let him stay forever as your personal woodchopper. You can even teleport him to one of the smaller useless moon islands and use him safely there, or keep him somewhere safe and make him chop and mine forests as the world regrowth makes them grow again, so you don't even have to plant them.

Once you make fuelweaver, the reanimated skeleton can also be a decent logger, specially in the caves where he will fight treeguards (and mostly get killed by them so you don't have to despawn it)

DST also offers the moon island's glass axes, and their main purpose is to make any character as fast logger as Woodie. Warly and Wurt also have tree-gathering perks, making it 4 characters that already have faster tree-gathering perks (Maxwell, Woodie, Warly and Wurt).

I wouldn't say its useless, of course its not, but I think it would be redundant or "boring" in the global plan, to add yet another tree gathering skill when we could get new mechanics to the game through his inventions. Of course this is entirely a personal opinion.

Exactly! The glasses should be his "thing" noone else can play with, and the structures the multiplayer bonus. But he should feel fun and powerful with his glasses on a daily basics.

On the record:

From the DLCs: Walani.
I like her better than Woodlegs, she seems to be a popular pick, and she could be reworked into the Ocean character.

NOT actually a DLC Character: Wagstaff.
Lore. Literally my only reason. His items could be completely ditched in favor of ones that suit DST, as they're his inventions anyway, not some built-in character trait like Willow's love of fire or Wendy's dead sister.

Off the record:

Wilba because I want to see her piggy interactions with Webber/Wurt/Wortox. For the lulz lore, really.

first two, definitly a yes from me, the third though? ABSOLUTE YES, she could have a bit of banter with wurt, webber and wortox, and it would be cute to see webber say to wilda (when in werepig form) "aaaaah! please dont eat us!!!!" walani is obv one of my favorite sw characters, (even if its the...lets just say...... less fun dlc) shes really cool tbh and is one of the easiest characters to play in sw for newbies and idiots who dont know whats going on, like me. wagstaff is just really fun so yeah thats really it for me

That would either be the tooth trap or Wormwood's Bramble Trap

Don't see the problem with Thumper.

Is anyone genuinely sad they have to collect wood the hard way? It isn't a very interesting part of the game. I don't care wheter Maxwell or Woodie are better at it, it's still not interesting.

Make the thumper cost 4 gears to craft.

Nerf the moon portal (put the orb on the island)

If it becomes necessary, add a new mechanic so character-specific structures collapse when their owner swaps character.

It is similar but not quite the same: it is a turf, so you need a pitchfork to place it. You don't need to re-arm it in order for it to do damage again. It also would probably not have durability (as it is a turf), however, that could be changed. But thinking it more closely, it could be better to give those "turf traps" to Wormwood.

I also don't see the problem with the thumper. Specially considering bearger exists.

I wouldn't mind that nerf to the moon portal.

If there a 2nd wave of SW/HAM - weirdly enough i see the SW characters makin it then HAM

Walani - no perks other than being on the water but could be revamped like Warly (everyone knows she going to have something new + buffed)

Wilbur- poops every time he eats 1 value fruit/veggie or vegetarian dish + can assign monkeys to pick things + poop crafting tab :)

Woodlegs - infinity boat cannon needs a nerf + treasures are random so he might need team perk + downside is decent

Wagstaff - upsides greatly outweigh downsides + we have 3.5 DST characters who specialize in chopping + Wortox teleports better

Wilba - Wilba is going to be revamped as her pig form provides next to nothing + Werepig is the same complaint as 3.5 choppers

Wheeler - sadly Walter/Wortox took her uniqueness + navigadget isn't useful beyond early game
